  1. In 2004, I bought 1,000 tees on eBay.  They came in 20 bags of 50 each.  Several months ago, I was counting how many I had left, there are still 750 still in the bag.  As a walker, I'm always picking up a tee when I see it just laying there...I just can't help myself.  I go through my bag every 3-4 months to reduce the tee's I've built up.  I'm amazed at how many tees I have!!  I'm pretty confident I'll never have to buy another tee in my life.

Here's my new golf ball stash!

I have been playing Srixon QStar Tour (white, yellow and Divide) for the last couple of years.  With SS in the mid to low 70's I found it a good overall performance ball.

Based on the feedback from others on this forum (plus being from Western NY and a Buffalo Bills fan), I wanted to give OnCore a try.  I did their ball fitting routine and contacted their customer support for their recommendations.  I ended up with the 2022 version of the Elixr and picked up 3 dozen with a recent promotion.  When it got into play, I found I lost about 10 yards on my drive. I sent in a review and within a few days OnCore customer support sent me samples of all their balls to try to see which ball worked the best for me.  Great customer service!  The 2020 version of Elixr proved to be better fitted for my game.

I have a dozen ProV1's I got in a trade that I keep for tournaments where we have an alternate shot format as my playing partner uses that ball.   Take one for the team!

For now, I will go back and forth with the Srixon QStar Tour and OnCore 2020 Elixr.

Since I loosed a ball every three of four rounds (one nice thing of hitting the ball short), I should be good for balls for some time!

Similar to you, I've been playing the ELIXR and Q-Star Tour Divide quite a bit this year.  I think I prefer the original ELIXR, but maybe it's all about the matte green I have the original one's in?!?  For whatever reason, I prefer to play colored balls these days - lime green and the yellow/orange Divide are my favorites.  Not many people I play with have those colors, so it's always easy to know which ball is mine from a long ways out.

Great customer service from OnCore - impressive!!

  3. I've been playing 'Direct to Consumer' balls since the Snell MTB's hit the market.  But their price increased, stopped free shipping and bulk discounts (due to supply/demand).  Sadly, I moved on ... I really liked the OnCore ELIXR ball, especially a great deal and very similar performance to the premium balls we all like.

But, it seems now that OnCore is becoming pretty proud of their balls too.  With the new OnCore Vero X2 coming in at $50 a dozen, it's an easy pass for me.  If I'm going to pay $50+ a dozen, I'd just go with ProV1/AVX or the TP5X balls.  Too bad, hope they don't screw up the ELIXR pricing or I'll be a regular Maxfli Tour ball guy.  Which is very easy to play when you can get 4 dozen for $104.95 and we all know the review on MGS are exceptional.

I'm always rooting for the smaller companies or the less popular brands at a great deal, so for me these days it's OnCore ELIXR, Maxfli Tour, Srixon Q-Star Tour and Vice.  C'mon OnCore, don't screw up your brand with this new gimmicky subscription service and moving away from the balls that got you where you are today!!  The whole reason people tried and stayed with your ball was the performance/price point... smh.`

I see in your signature that you play the Snell MTB-X. That was my go-to ball ever since it came out and after testing the Maxfli Tour X for MGS I made the switch. I got incredible results with it, almost identical to the Snell, and it was easier to buy. At the time Snell was having inventory issues so it was nice being able to walk in Dick's and get these.

I should probably remove the Snell MTB-X ball from my profile.  I haven't played them at all this year, when they dropped back to only ordering 2 dozen plus shipping, I found a suitable replacement in the OnCore ELIXR and Maxfli Tour.

  5. Posted my review tonight on the 2022 OnCore ELIXR golf ball.

One interesting thing was that I cut/pasted a spreadsheet.  When I tried to remove by cutting it back out, it took away the text, but the boxes remained.  That's why there's a large gap at the end of my review.

Also, it'd be great to be able to resize the graphics within the tool, rather than having to do so in an editor and bring it in.  Unless you can and I just couldn't figure it out.

EDITED:  Nevermind, I figured it out...doh!!

Dean Snell of Snell Golf worked for both Titleist and TaylorMade Golf for many years and his name is on the patents for several TaylorMade ball models (TP Red, TP Black, Penta and Lethal), as well as the Titleist ProV1 balls.

Snell MTB and MTB-X golf balls are three and four-piece premium balls was cast thermoset Urethane covers and have been very highly rated in a variety of golf ball tests over the last several years.  Just do a search and you will find plenty of reviews, test data and articles about Snell golf balls.

#YamYam -- You've been a member of MGS since 2017 and never heard of Snell?!?  Guess you don't follow the golf ball tests?

  7. Love Snell MTB-X ball's, but now they're short on supply, I've moved to OnCore ELIXR (buy 3/get 1 free), or buy Maxfli Tour, Srixon Q-Star Tour Divide locally at Golf Galaxy/PGA Tour Superstore.  Without the buy in bulk pricing/free shipping from Snell - I found suitable alternatives.

  8. The graphic shows Tour Response @ $35, but in the article and on-line it's $39.99.

I think at $34.99 they have a very intriguing golf ball that I'd try, at $39.99...I pass.  Before the hater's start, yes - it's only $5 difference.

But $39.99 is logically $40, so when balls are priced there; Snell, OnCore and Vice are better values.

Just my two cents, or $5, in this case!

  9. I'm a big fan of the Q-Star Tour Divide, so I'd give these a try too....except, at $39.99, there's no point.

I'll stick to Snell, OnCore Elixr and Vice Pro.

If color or pattern isn't a concern, then Wilson Duo Pro or Maxfli Tour is the way to go.

Hey Taylormade, Callaway and Bridgestone, if you want to take over marketshare from Titleist, you need a comparable ball (TP5, Chrome Soft and  Tour B-Series) cheaper than them -or- when you come out with a 2nd tier Urethane ball, like the Tour Response, price it at the same level or lower than the primary competition or you won't get many takers...

I was listening to a golf podcast yesterday and they brought-up something interesting to watch-for down the road with this carbon face: pitting.
In the South, many of our ranges are based with sand, and we always have sand on the range balls. An issue for us could be pitting of the carbon face caused by the grains of sand being smashed at 100 mph or more, a lot! A steel face shows some wear, and on pvd clubs we even see the “bursts” from water leaving marks so I’m curious how the Stealth face holds-up in the South with all of the sand.

I have no science to back up the following statement, but I've long been a firm believer that a lot of club damage happens from the range when people don't clean off the face.  That grass is sitting on dirt/sand combination and hitting shot after shot, with sand on the face, damages the clubs.  Again, no science - just logic.

What makes you think the top three will be the best for you?  If you are going to get on a launch monitor you are better off just doing that instead of waiting for the results.

Because there are dozens of drivers available, I'm not going to try them all.  This is how I choose to do it.  Fortunately for you, I don't make the rules for every golfer on the planet - you can choose to do it, or not do it, any way you like.

  12. I've been a Taylormade Driver guy, going back to the Bubble Burner - but, I'm going to wait until the MGS Driver Test before I make any buying decisions.  Then will take the top 3 in my swing speed range and put them on a launch monitor to figure out my best option.

But, I'm itching to try and buy, so come on MyGolfSpy - let's have the numbers!!!

  13. I like the updates and think it gives you a good way to select testing pools.

One thing you may want to consider is the golfing season for someone.  You can't necessarily go off of the location, meaning even though I live in Colorado, I play year round.  I played 122 times last year, and have managed at least once a month for the past 17 years.  Granted, January-February can be challenging.  I've traveled 2 hrs each way, to get to a playable course in those months.  But maybe add a field that shows the start/stop months for when they play.

I agree the paint looks different. The photo you cited is a promotional photo from Taylor made that has obviously been edited to make it look flawless (notice there is no serial number and the club face almost looks fake) When looking at photos of used drivers the colours look super similar, that’s why I’m struggling with deciding if they are real or not

This one looks more like yours, except the GEOCOUSTIC decal.  So maybe yours is fine - hit it and see if it does what you want/expect.
