  1. Was up in St Andrews for a fitting on Monday and played the New Course on Tuesday a few photos. Great weather and course in great condition no rough up so got away with a few wayward shots, except on 10, and tried to hit 3w out of rough. 10th Tee New Coures 18th Tee New Course Oh and they let us start drinking outside again after Lockdown so have a wee bit of catching up to do
  2. Well I didn't make the final, played like a chomper, OB off the 1st tee and just never recovered. Just need to qualify for next years.
  3. I try to collect ball markers from every course I play, they had been stacking up in a big tankard in my office so decide to put them on display. Finished mounting today. Top Left is prestige UK course and tournaments Left centre, San Diego, except for one Left bottom England Centre is all Scottish sort of geographically grouped Top right is Portugal, Turkey, Malta, Creet Below Portugal is Canary Islands Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gan Canaria and Tenerife Centre to bottom right is Mainland Spain and Majorca
  4. Playing in the Scottish Medal Final East on Friday. 1st time I've qualified so looking forward to it. https://scottishgolf.org/craigmillar-park-tees-off-2021-scottish-golf-events-season/
  5. After my last post on the 26th April I decided to go back and update my putting stats as recorded via my Skycaddie and found them quite revealing. I seemed to be having the worst results using the Floki while the Rossa Daytona on its one outing had done quite well so I switched again with rather good results, 3 rounds at 30 and under, rolling in some good putts from 12 to 15 feet, confidence on the rise, scoring dropping. A scratch (circa) 72 in my matchplay, 79 in the medal with a horror quad at the 14th (bunker trouble), handicap cut down to 4.9. As I said on my last post I changed my setup slightly to get a more centred strike and it has helped that the greens are running better but for now the Floki is on the naughty step.
  6. Yeah I found I was more comfortable going one size up, hardly used them in the winter but now being using them for about a month now and no issues at all. I alternate between them an a pair of Adidas Tour 360s
  7. I always try to rationalise rules with examples and find it hard to justify the double penalty. Say you are playing Pebble Beach and you slice one into the sea and it crosses the hazard line at 200 yds but is basically off the planet right you get to drop for 1 stroke penalty. On the flip side if you out hit a dog leg in dry conditions and run under a boundary fence by inches you get stroke and distance. For me lost ball and OB should be distance only i.e play a provisional and if the ball is lost or OB continue on with the provisional. In friendly games I would let you drop one.

I love these thanks for sharing. Well not so keen on the coffee ones!
  10. I would rather have it good at getting the ball in the hole! LOL
  11. 4 competition rounds into the new season and I thought I would give an update on the Floki. I used the Floki for most of the Winter on slow greens. As followers of my retirement posts will know that after an enforced break in January my game in general and putting stats have gone a bit South. This resulted in me swapping around my putter collection to try and get some consistency back. Across the putters my stroke doesn't change much but the one thing I did determine was when using my old Rossa Daytona I could hear a difference in off centre hits that I couldn't with the Floki. On videoing the stroke I was definitely hitting the ball out of the heel, especially on longer putts. Changed the ball position to more forward in my strance and left arm more neutral this resulted in me hitting the ball better. Back to the Floki with the new setup and putted a little better on Saturday with 34 putts. My chipping is not helping me at the moment, duffed chips left me with some horror putts which gave me 2 x 3 putts. With very little early season growth the greens are not running at their best either. On the putter itself after putting on sanded greens over winter and hitting over 30 balls a round the finish is holding up well, there are a few minor scratches on the bottom but not really noticeable unless closely scrutinised. The head cover is also still in good condition and holding up well, although I did use a old cover part of the time in the close season. Is it still my Gamer? Just, my confidence is low at the moment so it nay get swapped out, time will tell.
  12. How crazy is WHS? My 81 got me a cut to h/c of 5.3.
  13. Thought I would give a retirement update since I have posted on this thread since November. The Winter off season was a bit frustrating, up until Xmas I carried on my good form then the snow came and didn't play golf for about 4 weeks. When I started back it was like a different game, my consistency had gone throughout my game and instead of averaging around 6 over a round I was hitting 10 to 15 over. This is now carried over into the start of the new season and I'm working hard on the course and practice areas to trying and get it back. 1. Driving: the high cut is back, I don't think I'm hitting thru the ball and transferring my weight onto the front foot. I have a short 3/4 backswing and noticed on Sat if i lengthen this helped with the weight transfer and ball striking. I need to work on this by the time I got to 14 the cut came back. 2: Long approach shot: My 3w and hybrids are working well; still can have the occasional cut but not destructive. 3. Mid approach: I had started hitting at the ball rather than thru the ball and this had lost me distance and consistency, recently changed this with a shallower take away and this has helped. Main issue now is occasionally I get stuck on the inside which causes a push. 4: Short approach: I'm struggling a bit with gapping on full shots with PW thru to 56' wedge but in recent weeks I have started using half shots from 9i to 56' (100 to 60yds) which has helped. 5. Chipping: This was really strong last year but has been the most troublesome part of my game at the start of this. I'm practicing really hard but not getting any better, practises goes well but when I get on the course I seem to choke on shots. The conditions of the course don't help, if you get on a path from green to tee, your left with an iffy lie, we've had very little growth yet so I'm hoping that the fringes will lush up. 6. Putting: Like the chipping pretty frustrating, I'm finding it hard to get any consistency and I'm chopping and changing putter to try and get comfortable. At the moment I'm 36 putts average per round compared to 32 last year. Like the fringes the greens are still quite bumpy and the chipping is not helping with longer proximity to the hole. Saturday tried an new setup up with the putter more forward in my stance and this seems to have helped 34 putts with 2 x 3 putts which were both 60' 1st putts from mishit chips. I have been lucky so far that my handicap has not gone up due to my my 1st counter being 10th out of 20, with 4 rounds down I have 6 to get a couple of good scores recorded. Need to get back to my pre-shot mantra GAS. Grip, Address, Shoulders. Got a few key rounds coming up 1st game of the Senior League on Thursday and then the week after it is the Scottish Medal East finals so want to equipe myself well in these.
  14. Matchplay qualifiers yesterday and today. Played yesterday and had a mare of a round. Since the start of the season I've been struggling with club head speed and hitting the ball fat. A fortnight ago I changed my setup opening my stance slightly and this initially resulted in better strikes and more consistency but I would get the occasional socket rocket and a drive coming off the heel. Yesterday it all fell apart, heels, thins, shanks, pulls, slices, duffed chips. Had an adventurous 11 on the 4th: Drive pulled off the heel into the woods, rechocies back into fairway. (in my head, take punishment and play to middle of fairway) 3w push and fade into bushes right. Penalty drop back 30 yds Pull 3w left into trees PW I can get it over the trees, hits them square on after I thin the shot Punch out under the trees catches the bank of the ditch but stays out 40 yd pitch caught heavy and rolls off the front Chip caught heavy rolls off front Chip caught heavy and just stays on Putt lips hole In the hole My playing partner usefully pointed out that I had just used all my strokes on the one hole. Out in 47 back in 41 for 88, net 82. Decided not to play in the other qualifier today, may spend some time on the range.
  15. I've been mostly a Cleveland Wedge player for the last 15 years but looking for a change. Anyone play with the Callaway MD5 JAWS Wedges? If so what is your feedback? TIA Alf
  16. I find it hard to part with any club that I've played well with and is part of my golfing development. For putters I occasionally have a clear out and immediately regret it. When my Gamer stops working, I think back to the magical round I had with the Scotty Squareback and get it out only for it to be banished 2 rounds later. Likewise the Odyssey MetalX, Odyssey Tank, Odyssey 2 ball, Rossa Monza, Rossa Monza Corza, Rossa Monza Daytona, GEL Blade, TM SpiderX. I had an old brass milled blade that I had used 20 years ago that would come out every so often. I sold it to a friend and I'm really tempted to buy it back.
  17. End of the Winter season on Saturday and the opening day of the Summer course 77 net 72 for a win and outride win of our Winter trophy the CLAG (Colin, Lindsay, Alf, Graham),
  18. Feels like Spring has sprung in Scotland
  19. In Scotland we run at GMT and BST. when I was working I always thought being 400 miles north of London and further north than Montreal we should have our own time zone. Sunrise is currently 6:26 and sunset 6:22, if we were already on BST I would have time for a full round after work.
  20. I did the PING Heppler review last year and it got me to re-evaluate my stroke an setup. The putter is adjustable from 34 to 36" and I noticed that my setup had me gripping low on the grip, I adjusted the grip down to 34" and couldn't use it I assume due to the swingweight changes. But after trying videos and focusing on swing thoughts I came to the conclusion that getting a repetitive setup and very little swing thoughts is the way to go for me.
  21. So Scotland is a small country but in terms of courses is about 550. I would guess I've played about 200 and probably never will get to to play them all. Some are just too remote. From Shetland in the North to the Isle of Harris in the West. I do have my clubs with me most of the time but I think you would need to dedicate 5-10 years to do it. Here's a link to a guy how did over the space of nearly 40 years https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/733464/Golf-fanatic-plays-round-all-Scotlands-558-public-courses#:~:text=GOLF-MAD Laurie Skuodas has,of Scotland's 558 public courses.
  22. I use an electric Powakaddy trolley, in the UK they have become pretty much the norm for golfers. I would say about 70% of club players use them. On the iron covers I’ve used forged irons for years and they are all heavily dinged, I go thru phases of using them but in the end it is usually the fuss of taking them on and off when playing makes me put them away. I actually like the look. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  23. Not sure about the iron covers either, the only last for about half a round then get fed up taking them on and off or lose one then I put away for another year.
  24. Don't ride but electric trolley is a must.
  25. 4 weeks to go before the new season so bought myself a new bag. Had looked at the Callaway Org 15 but settled for the Srixon Tour cart bag. Seen here in all its glory. Iron covers too much?
