  1. I've decided to put Ping AWT 2.0 shafts in them. I'm having quite a good time refinishing the clubs. I'll post some picks to show what can be accomplished with cheapo tools like a Harbor Freight tumbler.
  2. I'm thinking of re-shafting a set of Ping Eye 2 irons, but with a modern shaft. I am not looking for a direct replacement of the ZZ lite. I favor smooth tempo shafts. My favorite current shafts are the Nippon 950GH and True Temper XP 105. Has anyone paired these with Eye 2's? Anything else worth considering?
  3. I ran across the Under Armour H1 Storm Vent bucket hat at Golf Galaxy today. It is extremely light.
  4. I have this hat as well. The Titleist logo mitigates the "dork" factor a little bit. I wish it had more ventilation.
  5. I'm not much of a hat guy. If I wear one at all it is a low profile visor. That said I'm getting older and starting to think about sun protection. That would be something more than a baseball cap. Anyone come across something halfway decent that doesn't make you look like Crocodile Dundee? Maybe a boonie hat?
  6. First round I ever played with was Acushnet Club Specials. Good times. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  7. I also play 714 AP1. I refuse to look at 716 or 718. I've drawn a "moral line" at the specs of the 714, which are already strong. The last thing I need is to revisit all of my wedge gapping with stronger lofts.
  8. Looking at Cleveland CBX wedges. I hit them every time I go to GG. Seems like I haven't missed a shot.
  9. Not technically the best, but I vote for David Gilmour (pink floyd). Every song has an amazing solo with the focus on music, not just playing as many notes as possible.
  10. I just bought an Evnroll ER7. If anything, I DIDN'T want an Evnroll because of the price. I did a SAMLab fitting during which I tried multiple putters from multiple companies. However, my numbers on the Evnroll ER7 proved to be superior. I also had to have the loft adjusted to compensate for a forward press. I left much poorer but at least won't be able to blame my putter going forward.
  11. Great movie / character played by a comedy legend Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  12. I found an article by Tom Wishon stating that you're OK with putting up to about 12 grams into the shaft (whether via powder or tip weight). At 12 grams it DOES start to impact your swing characteristics. I suspected at some point this had to be the case. If you take it to absurd limits... say put a 50 gram tip weight into the shaft... there's no way that it would not impact how one would manipulate the club during the swing.
  13. So far, so good with the Rosemark 1.25. I really like it.

  15. Yes, this was along the line of my question. I always understood weight positioning (when fitting / tinkering, not designing the clubhead) to be about enhancing a golfer's swing path. For example, putting lead tape towards the toe to battle the tendency to shut the face too soon and hook and vice versa for a slice. If that is true, then I never understood why one would want to put tip weights on a shaft. It seems your irons would become more hook biased. Hooks are my miss, so I try not to encourage them. Seems some folks are saying lead tape placement for swing path is nonsense, which would support the thought that putting weight wherever, including the shaft tip, makes no difference to swing path. But if you do believe lead tape makes a difference in swing path, then I can't see why you would want to put weight into the shaft. Or have I hopelessly confused myself again (and everyone in the process).
  16. Thanks for all your help. I wound up installing a new Nippon 950GH in the 8 iron. I really liked the combo in an AP1. What a fantastic shaft. I couldn't leave well enough alone, however. I found some REALLY cheap Ping AWT 2.0 shaft pulls, which are also made by Nippon. I figured what the heck, I'll try those out at less than $5 a pop before swinging over $25 each for the 950GH. It will look funny however.
  17. Coming soon from the "Ryder Cup Retro Collection": http://www.linkslifegolf.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/ryder1999.jpg Now lets reflect on this for a second. This shirt was picked by the captain's wife. You can bet that she also got the counsel of the other wives on these and all of the other shirts. 12 independent business men (players) who have handlers that help them meticulously maintain their desired image put this on in front of a record audience and their stereotypically superior dressed European contemporaries. It belongs in Ripley's Believe it or Not.
  18. Thanks guys. I'm debating between Nippon 950GH and Recoil 780ES in stiff. It will come down to price, so the Nippon's but I'm curious if anyone has paired these shafts with Titleist.
  19. My brother gave me his set of AP1s. I would like to switch out the shafts, which are .355 tip. I am looking to get a set of shaft pulls. Is it true that you only trim tapered shafts at the butt - meaning that you can take a tapered tip previously in a 4 iron and put it into a Gap Wedge by just trimming from the butt? Or do you need to trim from the tip and the butt?
  20. Glad to hear! I did not know they had versions without the nubs.
  21. I decided to try the Rosemark Thorn 1.25. I hope this doesn't turn out to be a grave mistake.
