  1. Yeah, I meant the Fox Den comparison as it looks pretty tight, so I better get my punch game in order.
  2. I am not going through a swing change (at least consciously - who knows which idiot is showing up any given day) and shot 44/46 90. I would say it was my C/C- game. Nothing was terribly good and not much terribly wrong. Just kind of meh. My putting has been pretty gross over the last month, so I pulled the StrokeLab off the bench. I feel like I putted a bit better than Arccos gives me credit for as some of the greens at Windmill can be pretty tricky/severe, at least to someone that doesn't play there all the time like Matt.

Played some pretty decent golf. Got out today, as well, but didn't better it.
  4. Looking at satellite view, it looks Fox Den-ish. Looking forward to it!
  5. Tuesday after our league 9, I decided to make the turn and keep going so I could at least guarantee an early round and try to get out later in the week, if needed. Not a spectacular round, but very solid and certainly better than the garbage I had to post last week. 40/41 for an 81, net 73 (+2). I'm still not sure if I'll get a chance to try to beat this, but will post in the week 25 thread later.
  6. Max - min for me this year is 20. I would like to think of I could get more consistency, I could bring that range down, but numbers don't lie.
  7. I can totally relate! Shot a smooth 50/47 97 at Gleneagles on Saturday. I could do nothing right! You've played with me enough to know I do NOT snap-hook the ball. I did Saturday... 6 times. All told, I had 8(!!!!) penalties. I'm participating in the virtual match play and had to post a NET 89 . Going back through my history in Arccos, it was my worst round since 9/12/2020 and second worst in the entire time I've used Arccos. When I got home, I begged my wife to find piece of pipe and bludgeon me with it. She didn't do it, but she did make fun of my lack of golf prowess pretty much the rest of the weekend.

Like worst of the season bad. By 7 strokes bad and I have to count it in the match play deal. I could literally do nothing right. Golf, man.... Sorry about the upside-down card. No matter how I change it, this orientation is the result.
  9. Had BY FAR (7 strokes) my worst round of the year yesterday. I thought I had time to get an additional round in as I thought we were early in week 3 instead of at the end of week 2. I was wrong so I have to post a score that is 17 strokes over par (NET!!!!). Brutal day. Nothing worked. I don't snap-hook the ball, yet I did it 6 times yesterday and ended up with 8 penalties. If I was captain of our team, I'd bench myself. Smooth 97 with a course handicap of 8 ain't gonna cut it. I already apologized to @richk9holes in a DM, but will public do so too! Sorry Rich! No clue why the image is upside down. Tried three different edits and it still posts that way. Question for @GolfSpy TCB - which week of the VCT should this be posted in since I am apparently a very confused person who happens to suck really hard at golf right now?
  10. Played in our league outing on Sunday - I shot an 85 and was just about as good as I've ever been with driver. Irons were pretty blah, but putting was brutal. I had 5 three putts and none of them were from terribly far away. I was actually pretty happy with the round given the way I putted. Last night in league started perfectly - tee ball down the middle, little gap wedge to 6 inches for tap-in birdie. First 4 holes were birdie, double, par, triple. Finished with a 42 and putted better, but still not up to usual standards.

  13. Starting last summer, my wife and were trying to find a company to work on a pretty big hardscape project we had in mind. It was a struggle to find a contractor that had the time to even give us a quote, much less be able to commit to doing the work. Earlier this year, I was complaining about it to a friend that used to own his own concrete business and he gave me a phone number and said, "Call this guy - I used to subcontract with him on any concrete work he needed. He is a good guy, and they do good work." Here are a couple aerial photos of before.... In general, there is a lot of overgrown garbage going on. Our biggest concern was the collapsing retaining wall and the amount of erosion that has taken place (the soil and mulch used to reach the gray brick behind the wall and below the furnace vent), but until this year, it was all covered in ivy, so it was harder to notice how bad of shape things were in. Something killed a bunch of the ivy over the winter, so it stuck out like a sore thumb. The path leading to the front door was also very uneven due to roots that have pushed it around. Over the years, we have had around a dozen trees taken out of the front yard, a couple of which were too close to the path. Our secondary concern was getting the old parking pad replaced (and enlarged) to match whatever we ended up doing in front of the house and doing some type of a path up the left side of the house to get to the back yard. We liked the proposal and once we got over the sticker shock, we decided to pull the trigger. I won't bore everyone with the daily updates, I'll just move on to the (nearly) finished product: As of Tuesday evening, everything is done, including the repairs and reseeding of the yard - good thing the weather is starting to be more appropriate for growing grass. Our goal in the next year or 2 is to connect the path up the side of the house to a patio that will match the parking pad where we can put a pergola, some furniture, and a gas-burning fire pit. Of course, we also want to have our kitchen redone, so we'll see which project actually comes next. In case anyone is curious, all the images were taken with a DJI Mini2 drone my lovely wife got me for Christmas last year. Images are downsized, but it has 4K native resolution. I had originally asked for it to take to golf courses, but the booting process and GPS acquisition take longer than I would like and would totally interrupt the flow of a round and slow things down. I have toyed with the idea of using an older phone as the dedicated controller that I can leave connected, but since the phone is quite a bit older, the drone software has been a little flaky when I've tried it. I do not need the software to crash mid-flight and have no clue what the drone itself would do if that happened. I have no interest in finding out.
  14. I know the app updated as I've noticed some different formatting for some of the things. My phone also did a firmware update around the same time, so I suppose it's possible it was my phone, but I'm pretty sure @DiscipleofPenick observed some strange behavior too.
  15. Has anyone else noticed the number of false positives has gone through the roof with the recent update? I'm not entirely sure when the update happened, but I noticed A LOT of detections that weren't real when I played on the 26th. I was tempted to chalk some of it up to it being a CPO day and carrying a bunch of clubs with me everywhere I went, but it has been just as bad in the in the 45 holes I've played since that day. I also noticed a couple shots where it registered the "recommended" club rather than the one I actually used. I never actually pulled the recommended club out of my bag? Anyway, it's a big nuisance to have to delete a bunch of shots, whether it is done real-time or after the fact.
  16. I drove the ball pretty well in league last night but could not hit a solid iron to save my life - everything was a weak push/fade about 10 yards shorter than typical. Chipping was not great and putting was brutal - pushes and pulls all night leading to 19 putts. I guess it's time to do the yardstick drill for an hour, or so. I ended up with 7 bogies, a par, and a double.

I did have a net eagle on the #1 handicap hole, so that should help us some.
  18. This could be kind of interesting - on Sunday I am playing a place I have never been and it is a relatively new course so the Arccos map shows a lot of dirt. We'll see how accurate it is. For those wondering, this is my start at making excuses in case I perform poorly.
  19. After the less-than-stellar play the last few rounds, I decided to hit the range Monday evening - I've had a suspicion for a while that when things start going sideways (sometimes literally), my alignment and ball position are getting out of whack, so I worked only on those things and it seemed to work out well, at least for the swing I had that day and it fortunately carried over into league last night. So last night was our final competitive league night. My teammate and I won the first half and came in 2nd the second half. Our opponents for the championship were my good friend's team in a rematch of last week (where both me and my teammate lost). Because of the way things worked out, I was actually playing two matches simultaneously - one match for 1st and 2nd and another for 3rd and 4th. Starting off the first tee, I got a great break. Below is an image of the first hole. I've drawn the approximate area of OB. I have discussed with a couple other guys that if my miss was a hook, I would hit driver on this hole all day long as the area that is not OB is well within reach as long as you don't catch any of the trees. As it is, this hole does not set up well with my fade, so I always hit a hybrid to stay short of the bunker. As it turns out, I toe-hooked my hybrid but cleared the trees and ended up in play about 10 yards past OB (about where the yellow dot is). I took that as a sign that luck was on my side for the evening. My primary opponent had a rough night - he was feeling under the weather, clearly had a fever as sweat was pouring from him in places that people don't normally sweat, but he was a trooper and gutted it out, shooting a 47 (4 over his handicap). My secondary opponent shot at his handicap. I ended up shooting a 37 (+2) for a net 32 with 3 bogies, a birdie, and the rest pars (with a missed 4-footer for another birdie) while my partner shot a net 34 winning his primary match, but losing his secondary match, so we ended up winning 1st place and 4th place. We will win a little bit of money, but it is mostly about bragging rights. In other news, my league handicap has now dropped to a 4. I don't know how I feel about that - I like that it means I played well this year, but don't like that I am giving more strokes to people, a couple of which I don't feel like I should be giving any strokes to. Here is an updated chart of how my handicap has progressed since the beginning of 2020:
  20. It was a fun day, although the golf left a little (or a lot) to be desired. I also got out Saturday - both rounds were about equal and not sharp. I need to get to the range and hopefully sort this out before tomorrow. Me and my partner are playing for our league championship against my good friend and his partner. I would love to have a good round!
  21. Had a case of the lefts off the tee in league tonight. Made for a long evening. A steady diet of punch shots to try to get back into position. As bad as a I felt like I played, I carded a 45, so it could have been worse.
  22. I just got back from a trip to Missouri to see the in-laws and play a couple rounds of golf with friends from grad school. On Thursday, we played Eagle Knoll a bit south of Columbia. I had only played it a couple times "back in the day" but had a great time. The course was in great shape and has a TON of elevation changes, making club choice tricky at times. I shot a 41/45 with a double on the front and a double and a quad (on a par 5) on the back. I will take that score all day long with +8 coming on 3 holes. Friday, we were able to get on the Country Club of Missouri in Columbia. Absolutely beautiful course, in my opinion. There are a couple strange holes on the back that I would play differently having played them once, but it was hard to figure out from the tee, even with the benefit of a satellite view. The rough was very penal, so that added some strokes for me. Around the green I was terrible, even though I have had a very good short game this season. I blame the rough - it was thick and grabbed the clubs badly when needing to be delicate, so I had to try to convince myself to hit the ball harder than my instinct told me. I had a couple double-chips just to get it out of the rough and onto the green. Shot a 40 on the front (thanks mostly to better-than-normal iron play) with 2 birdies and a 47 on the back. Here is the 17th hole.... After hitting a "safe" shot, just for kicks I tried to go for it. I hit the ball pretty solid and it was on a good line to reach the closest point, but I never found it. If it missed, it could not have missed by much. I wish I could have seen where it landed, but the small tree and the island obscured our view as it was coming down right on that line.
  23. Well, the streak of stellar (or at least very good) short game and putting ended today. Still didn't play bad, thanks to driver and irons being better than normal. Ended up with a +6, 41 in some steady rain that lasted about 5 holes. I missed a 4-footer for bogey and a 3-footer for birdie that had been nearly automatic. I think the rain kind of freaked me out - I had no confidence in speed (with chips too) and did not commit to the shots. Shooting 1 over my handicap on a day like today and knowing I left meat on the bone is at least encouraging.
