  1. I have two rounds in with the Clinch Tactile Glove and I may be a convert now. I've been very impressed with the grip, but I also have new grips, so it's probably too early to tell there. The comfort is insanely good, though. I always played FJ StaSof before, but the Clinch is significantly better. I also bought a PXG Players Glove to try, but I haven't played a round with it yet. Seems to fit really well (also better than the StaSof), so it's promising. If the Clinch stays as grippy when my grips wear in a little bit and when they get a little wet, I don't see me making a change, though.

  3. Just a couple weeks ago. I’ve had pretty bad shoulder pain since the spring and I was just playing through it and I finally went to the doctor about a month and an half ago. Did the insurance-required PT for a few weeks to no avail and got scheduled for my MRI to confirm the tear we suspected. Nope, turns out I have a build up of arthritis and there’s really nothing they can do, so that’ll just hurt forever now. Sweet. I’m only 34, so they think it probably stems from untreated injuries from either wrestling in high school or my time in the military. Needless to say, I was furious.
  4. I’ve learned to not even look at the handicaps listed by manufacturers for irons. That’s a rough ballpark to throw in there that may or may not be right depending on the player. They have to put something on there just to help consumers distinguish which irons are geared towards what level of iron player, but I wouldn’t consider it a hard rule. I do feel your pain on the cranked lofts on clubs these days, though. I play 0311P Gen 5s and I got them all 1° weak and they are still a whole club longer than my previous set of Mizuno MP-58s. It’s frustrating that their answer is to just add another wedge to fix the gapping problem. If you are a consistent ball striker with your irons, do not be afraid to try more of a player iron. Even those are much more forgiving than they used to be so you could very well be totally fine with them. The new Titleist T150s are getting rave reviews and PXG just announced the new 317T to replace the gen 5 0311T. Both of those are a couple degrees weaker than your 0311Ps already and you can always get them an additional degree or 2 weak like I did to help get the distances dialed in where you want them.
  5. Agree with others on here that I would highly recommend a fitting. It sounds like you play enough that you probably make decently consistent contact, so the process should be pretty painless. Since you’ve played the same clubs for so long, I think a good first step is to figure out what you like to see at address. Does a thick top line or a thinner top line give you more confidence? Does the amount of offset really throw you off? Things like this can whittle down your options a lot right off the bat. The good news is there are so many great options on the market right now. If you are playing almost every week you could probably slot into the players distance iron range or maybe game improvement, but that’s a total guess without seeing your swing. I’m a big fan of the current lineups from PXG (0311P and XP would probably be up your alley and you can go Gen 5 to save some cash), Taylormade (P790), Mizuno (JPX line as well as the Mizuno Pro 225), and Titleist (probably T200 or T350). Just make sure you enjoy the process! New toys are always fun, so make sure you aren’t stressing out about it. A fitter is going to get you in something you can play well, so I would be shocked if you don’t go through this and knock some strokes off your scores no matter what you end up with!
  6. How long have you been playing golf? I started playing golf in college, so it has been about 16 years now. Played a few times as a kid before that, but didn’t love it. What’s your handicap or normal score? Newly established hdcp is a 15.0, but I’d expect that to settle around 13-14 with a couple more rounds in. I’m typically shooting mid-80s What do you love about golf? The challenge the sport presents that isn’t entirely reliant on physical ability. People of all ages can play it and the mental part of the game is a huge component. It truly doesn’t matter how much of an athletic freak you are if you don’t know your way around a course. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? Found MGS a few years ago when I was in the market for new clubs, but never ventured into the forums. Where are you from? What is your home course? Born and raised in central Ohio. I don’t really have a home course, but if I were forced to pick one, I guess I’d pick Denison GC in Granville, OH What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? There are a ton of good public courses in central Ohio, and in the prime seasons, the course conditions are ideal. There really isn’t a lot to complain about in this region to be honest. What do you do for a living? Engineer for the Department of Defense How’d you pick your user name? Admittedly, I have put almost zero thought into this and actually had to scroll up to see what it was after reading this question. WITB: Driver: Titleist 913D2 (10.5°) with some ProjectX shaft they don’t even make anymore 3W: 2008 Taylormade Burner off the rack (needs to go immediately) 5i-GW: PXG 0311P Gen 5 bent 1° weak with TT V2 Elevate Tour S shafts 56°: 2008 Titleist Vokey Spin Milled 60°: Ping Glide 2.0 SS Putter: L.A.B. Golf Mezz.1 As you can see, I am a couple clubs shy of 14, so my plan is to ditch my 3w and fill the bag with a new 5w, 7w, and a driving iron to use as a fairway finder off the tee. I really want something I can keep lower and just fire it down the fairway 240ish.
  7. I’m playing the Pro right now and I’d definitely give them and the Pro Plus some consideration despite your issues with the Zero. The Pro is a better fit for me as I lean towards the softer ones (non-X versions of ProV1 and Srixon ZStar). The zero is made in a different factory and they are known to have some issues. I’m actually surprised they haven’t pulled that series from the site. I tried the latest Snell test pack and the Prime is definitely softer feeling than the old MTB Blacks which is what I was hoping for. Unfortunately, I found both of the Snell balls to be pretty poor in terms of durability. Not even close to being on the level of the Vice Pro/Pro Plus or a ProV1/ProV1x. I had to demote one of the Primes to the side pocket of the bag after one shot with a 13 y/o SW. Chewed up bad.
