Yes I play 140-170 rounds a year and use a sharpener to extend the life of my wedges. Manufacturers will recommend that you should change your wedges much more frequently than I would, as I would have to pay for them. A groove sharpener will extend the life and bring the wedges back to its original performance.

I’m I used them in real course situations and I go down, dig and compress the ball especially with my wedges. I know I am creating a lot of spin and I do intentionally keep my grooves sharp but legal. I have found this with both models of their new golf balls. I find that all of the premium golf balls will eventually cut but I have found that the past premium balls from Titleist and Taylormade hold up better. Taylormade just sent me 8 of their newest balls yesterday and I have not had a chance to test them out yet. 4 each of their TP5 and TP5x.

There is nothing being hit other than the golf club. The ball does not respond well to sharp grooves and compression of the irons. That ball was used for 7 holes in a round of a 75 score. If you look at my previous posts you will see how the ball shreds and clearly shows signs of groove marks. In my opinion the cover should hold up better and according to mygolfspy testing scuffed and cut golf balls should be removed from play due to its yardage decrease. I would go through way too many balls in a round of golf. I probably should have removed that ball after 3 holes.

Another round played with the New Tour ball. Same results as before. The ball cuts and gets scuffed too easily and we all know that a scuffed ball doesn’t perform as well as a new ball. The ball has a good flight and lands relatively quickly on the greens. Putting on the greens feel good and rolls as on would expect but still expect a cover that holds up better.

I have 8 pair of Footjoy BOA golf shoes and have had many for several years without issues. I don’t buy anything but BOA unless I am buying a specific color pattern that I cannot buy in a BOA shoe.

Chrome Tour testing Played 2 rounds with the Callaway Chrome Tour . Each round consisted of multiple balls. The golf ball performed pretty well having played all rounds under 80. It has been somewhat windy here in SW Florida and solid hits went through the wind in your face with a nice ball flight. The ball responded okay around the greens with decent feel but the stopping power was not what I am looking for. The biggest issue I had was that the ball cut too easily with my wedges. My 64* wedge dug into the ball and they definitely don’t have the durability of a Pro V1. They cut similar to that of the Chrome Tour X in my previous review. That appears to be the biggest downside of the ball so far.

Played 2 rounds with the Callaway Chrome Tour X. Each round only one ball was used and on a course with 17 holes of water is a feat of its own. The golf ball performed pretty well having played both rounds in the upper 70’s. It has been windy here in SW Florida and solid hits went through a substantial wind in your face with a nice ball flight. The ball responded well around the greens with good feel and stopping power. The only issue I had was that the ball cut too easily with my wedges. I play a 64* wedge and I do keep the grooves sharp but they definitely don’t have the durability of a Pro V1. That appears to be the only downside of the ball so far. The sound and feel of the ball is what you would hope for. Here’s another picture of the cover on a second ball with durability issues.

Unboxing These Callaway test balls came in a plain white box similar to other test balls that I’ve seen in the past. The white golf ball box has a hexagon shaped hole in the front Inside the box were four boxes of three golf balls with two each being Chrome Tour X and two being Chrome Tour. The golf balls were white and appeared blemish free. Each ball had the triple track in red and blue colors with the ball name underneath the Callaway logo on either side. I am a triple track fan and currently mark my Titleist ProV1’s in a complete 360 degree triple track fashion for both alignment reasons and for identifying it on the course. There are no issues with anyone walking up and hitting the wrong ball when I am around.

February 11, 2024 Callaway White Box – Official MGS Forum Review by Robert Bloom Introduction About me : I am a 58 year old retired police detective who lives in Fort Myers Florida and plays golf 4-5 times a week. My game is a low to mid single digit handicap playing 150-175 rounds a year. Most of my golf is played recreationally but do play competitive golf through the Florida State Golf Association. Kelly Greens Golf & Country Club is where I both live and have membership at. I play left handed and have been playing for 30 years or so but the last 10 years I have been able to play year round since my retirement. Over the past 2 years I’ve traveled and played some of my bucket list golf courses to include The Old Course at St. Andrews, Kingsbarns, Carnoustie, Royal Portrush, Royal County Down, Pebble Beach Torrey Pines, Kapalua and Pinehurst just to name a few. My Game : My handicap has been relatively consistent over the past couple of years, fluctuating a couple of strokes either way. Playing competitive golf has helped maintain it on the lower end forcing me to play smarter golf and keeping the focus needed to play this difficult game. Almost a year ago I had cervical fusion surgery which has cost me some distance but make that up with club selection. Current Golf Ball: My competition golf ball is Titleist ProV1 with an occasional Taylormade TP5. I like a ball that has high spin around the green and one that I can work in both directions. When playing at home I like try other balls to see what’s out there. Current Equipment: I currently play PXG GEN4 woods and irons. My Vessel stand bag consists of my PXG Driver, 3W, 5W, 7W, 9-7 irons, Pw, Gw, 52*, 56*, 60*, 64* wedges and putter. My hope with this test is to see if Callaway has stepped up their golf ball producing game in relation to their competitors. I’ve played the Chrome Soft in the past and it would be nice to have more options of quality golf balls to choose from. I will be playing these balls on days of golf when I am not playing a competitive round.
