  1. Great round! You are correct about saying “beware of the injured or sick golfer”. I have won more tournaments and competitive rounds when I was sick or had body parts that were hurting like hades.
  2. I’m sorry; I see that you were comparing a 9* AI Smoke Max with an 8* AI Smoke Triple Diamond model. That’s a tough comparison to make! The 9* Max turned down to 8* loft is likely to be a little less open or equal in face angle to the 8* TD set in the “S” position. I hope that this helps!
  3. No, it is the other way around; the 9* turned down to 8* loft will be significantly more open-faced. Whenever you turn an adapter to the “lower” or “minus” settings, it will become more open. Also, I just measured the face angle again on my 10.5* AI Smoke TD driver, and it is more like 1.5* open in the “S” setting, and 3* open when I turned the lift down to 9.5*. I played a Callaway Rogue ST LS Triple Diamond driver for close to 2 years, and put that driver back in my bag for a while recently. It is a 9* model, and the face was so open in the standard loft position that I adjusted the adapter to +1 (10* loft) just to get the face angle closer to square (it was still about 1/2* open).
  4. GolfSpy CG_2 basically hit the nail on the head with his response. My AI Smoke Triple Diamond 10.5* driver has a 1.0* open face angle in the “neutral, stated loft” setting, and my source at Callaway Golf told me that the lower-loft Triple Diamond drivers get progressively more open in the “stated loft” settings. A 9* head may be closer to 1.5* open in face angle, and an 8* head is likely to be between 1.5* and 2.0* open. If you were to set the loft to the -1 setting on a 9* Triple Diamond head, it would probably be at least 2.5* (and possibly more than 3.0*) open at address if you sole the club.
  5. As long as the headcovers are not priced overly high (such as $100+), I would be "in" for a MGS headcover or headcover set. After all, I rep MyGolfSpy at every opportunity (bag, gloves, etc.)
  6. It's in the AI Smoke Triple Diamond head (nicest-looking driver head I have ever seen, and it sits just ever so slightly open in the "neutral" position on the adapter). Maybe that slightly-open face angle of just a hair less than 1* will help me to avoid the left misses .... besides, the best match up until now has been the Newton shaft in my Rogue ST LS Triple Diamond driver head. Now, if someone wants a like-new Rogue ST LS TD driver at 9* standard loft with their choice of about 5 different stiff-flex shafts in various profiles, just hit me up! I'll give you a fabulous price on it!!!
  7. I played my Newton 4-Dot shaft the last two days before more rain came here. In 27 holes, I only missed 3 fairways (I used the driver on 20 out of 27 holes), and none of my misses were very far off of the fairways (every one of them missed slightly left; no "rights" with this shaft!). My driving distance was good to very good (232 to 267 yards, with an average drive of just over 251 yards, according to my Garmin S70 GPS watch). The Newton is staying in my Callaway Paradym driver, or it will go into the AI Smoke TD head that just arrived today.
  8. Since I wear prescription lenses, I have to also wear prescription sunglasses (at least until this July when I will be having cataract surgery). Luckily for me, the guy who actually grinds the lenses and assembles the eyeglasses at my eye doctor's office is as avid a golfer as I am ... and he also wears prescription glasses on the golf course! A few years ago, he had me switch to wearing Varilux single (distance) prescription Transitions lenses that turn a dark bronze color in sunlight. I wear those glasses exclusively for golf, other than wearing them sometimes when I am driving my car in bright light, because these lenses turn darker even when inside of the car (I believe that the lenses are called "Transitions Hyperactive" lenses).
  9. My wife was just watching an old game show episode last week, and they were giving away a set of Pinseeker golf clubs as one of their prizes!
  10. It's all people who are involved in clubfitting and clubmaking, plus a couple of the editors from Links magazine (I think that three of them were on the 2022 trip that I took, organized by the same group -- Perry Golf runs the tours for Links magazine). The size of the groups are always limited to 24 or 32 golfers, and Perry Golf does an absolutely fabulous job organizing and running things (they are headquartered in Glasgow, but have a US office in the D.C. area and another at Pinehurst).
  11. I will be playing the Old and New Courses at St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie, plus North Berwick (Old) and Gullane No 1 on this year's trip. I played the Ailsa Course at Turnberry, Royal Troon, plus Royal Liverpool ( Hoylake) and Royal Birkdale in 2022.
  12. Well, I guess I have 5 years on you, as I turned 75 today.
  13. I’m REALLY sorry that I couldn’t participate in this test, but the peak testing period is during the two weeks that we will be in Scotland.
