  1. I have to say I'm really impressed with the testing opportunities offered so far this year. It's really nice to see and learn about these smaller brands that I've never heard of that may offer the same performance as the big OEMs, but just don't have the marketing budget! Don't get me wrong, I like to the big OEM equipment, but seeing basically the same irons every year with 5 in the name instead of the previous year's 4, is refreshing. Now about those BluePrint irons.🤣

    Time to break the forum.

First time we have had TaylorMade involved and truly so thankful!

Enjoy all and get your signups early as when this hits the main site it is going to pop off!

Coming out of the gate strong with this year's testing opportunities!!!🔥🔥🔥

So for wedges and irons the unit is carry distance only.  For woods the user can select carry or total.  It does use an algorithm to show total, and its supposed to be normalized.  So if you were hitting in some wind or something like that I’d expect to see some different numbers.  My numbers seem to be pretty close to Arccos most of the time.  The long clubs have felt pretty accurate given the beat up range balls I was hitting.

Okay, but regardless of the setting total/carry shouldn't it wait till the ball lands before showing distances?

  4. Went to the range yesterday and the gentleman next to me had just purchased the Rapsodo so I got to try a few swings with it. Both of us having never used it before we struggled a bit with set-up, synching, club selection at first, but got it figured it out. I used my 3-wood for my time on it and the data was "some what" consistent with my Arccos data, but a few questions on my experience.

How does it track distance? All of the shots I took the unit called out my distances while the ball was still in the air?? Arccos, on the other hand tracks my distance when I get to the ball, so it includes roll-out. How does the Rapsodo account for total distance while calling the distance in the air?

Does the unit utilize some type of algorithm combining smash factor and launch angle to aid in distance calculation? Some of my shots appeared to travel farther, but the unit said they were shorter. When we looked at the data it appeared that higher smash/launch were listed as longer distance, but my eyes said that was not the case on all shots.

    Hey Hammer,

I was going to save a few comments on this until posting the review, but it's good here in the discussion thread as well. Best I can tell from the Rapsodo website, the "Premium Subscription" offers cloud storage for 1,000 recorded shots vs. the free service storing only 100. So you get the ability to review more than your most recent range session or two.

The other thing the Premium Subscription provides is the opportunity to spend even more money. Keep in mind, the premium subscription itself is $100/year. With Premium, the Coach Connect service is made available. Now, while there are a number of lesson drill videos available for free there, the actual coaching comes at a price. And the price varies depending on the coach. If you choose one of the PGA Tour level gurus, the lessons available could be $400. With the 'entry level' coaches, you can get a lesson for $25. Of course, the quality of their feedback is going to be limited by the quality of the video recording of your swing that you are able to send them.

All that being said, the question to answer is 'Do I even need the premium subscription?'

Thanks for the feedback. My concern with the subscription was that you got minimal metrics & tracking with device itself and both you and @B.Boston have alleviated that concern. Honestly, I'm not sure how many more subscription services I can handle, and I have no idea how the younger generation is dealing with the plethora of monthly fees they have to maintain their lifestyles.
