Great start guys, I am currently in the market and like @ChitownM2 I use my range finder for par 3's and approach shots, typically use arccos if I am looking for a specific landing area or don't have a view.

Currently I have a Bushnell V3 Jolt. Bought it used and gets the job done. What I do like about it is when it locks onto the pin it jolts, and the flagstick gets circled. It is slowly breaking down and takes several trys to get locked onto the pin now.

My question is (long winded) what does this do to let you know you have the pin and not hitting the pine tree behind it?

It doesn't "know." Hopefully you have some idea what the distance is using GPS (yours or on the cart), physical 100-150-200 yardage markers and/or sprinkler heads - so you know when the rangefinder has truly locked on to the pin-flag. Unless there are trees very close behind the pin, you usually know without any reference IME as the discrepancy will be 50 yards give or take or more, but I did get fooled by a mound behind a pin once in 3 years. Otherwise it's always been obvious to me when my rangefinder has locked on the pin/flag - and I will usually lock on 2-3 times to be sure.

And on par 3's, it's pretty common for 2 players to shoot the pin. If they match, good to go.

This is exactly why I also wanted to do a fitting with a local company that has them to actually see and feel them before ordering, he should have all three models in so I'll be able to compare, but I'm strongly leaning mezz! I'll post something here after!

If/when I lose confidence in my ER5B, I will probably seek out someone who has LAB Mezz putters. I did see one at a PGASS but didn’t try it out, next time I will if it’s still there. The forward press grip throws me a little too, I don’t press with my putter and never have.

  3. I am intrigued with the Mezz putter but I can’t convince myself to try a putter that expensive without first hand experience. I am very satisfied and confident with my fitted ER5B, it would be easier if I was struggling on the greens. I like the Mezz looks, though center shafted putters have never looked “right” to me - the shaft interferes with lining up the putter at address in my small brain, maybe I’d get used to that. I also like putters that feel a little head heavy, sounds like that’s not the case with the Mezz? And finally I play regularly with a guy who swears by his DF putter, but he doesn’t putt any better or worse than anyone else. Still pondering…

  4. I’ve been pleased with my Precision Pro NX7 Pro, but I’d love to test a newer model - would be great if it locks on even faster. I play 3 times a week 12 months a year, and rely on rangefinders over all other options (GPS, markers, etc.), so it would get used plenty. Thanks.

  5. With Snell MTBB availability limited and higher prices, I switched to MaxFli Tours over a month ago. I was pleased with the first dozen, started into my second, and bought another two dozen - so I guess I've switched. It was nice to see very little difference in performance between the ProV1, the MTBB and the MaxFli Tours in the just released 2021 Ball Study. All the same for my purposes. I'm still hoarding a dozen ProV1's I got for my birthday in May, not sure what I'm waiting for...
