  2. @GB13, Good points. Riding will certainly give JD an advantage, walking would put him at a disadvantage. There’s no perfect answer to that situation. Has his life choices impacted the outcome of his life? Certainly. If he had treated himself well he might not be carrying around as much weight as he does today. Would laying off the booze helped him stay fit? Sure. Would that have prevented the arthritis from affecting his knees? No. I can tell you from direct experience that arthritis doesn’t care if you are in shape, if you’ve made the correct lifestyle choice. In my case it runs in the family. My grandmother had both knees replaced, my mother had both knees and both hips. Despite me being in excellent shape in my late 30’ and 40’s, arthritis came after me as well. Now I’ve had a knee and hip replaced. It wasn’t my lifestyle that brought it on. I had a 12 mile loop I ran for fun, pulled full racks at the gym. And I didn’t weigh a ton. My weight at that point was 165. Even today with a lot less activity I hover around 170. Did my lifestyle forestall my need for replacements? I believe it did, but it didn’t prevent the need. If JD caught the fitness bug and looked like Bruce Cupcake ([emoji12]) would arthritis still have attacked his knees? Betcha the physical outcome would be the same. The timeline might have been different, I’ll give you that. It’s okay to disagree on this, don’t feel that you’re being attacked. We’re all friends here having healthy discussions. That’s why I like hanging around with you folks [emoji16] Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  3. Sounds familiar. Graduated with a business degree but ended up in IT for the past 37 years... Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  4. Fair enough. Do you think JD planned to put himself in the situation he’s currently in? Hindsight is 20/20. Maybe he would have made different choices had he known. Or maybe he lives with demons that neither you or I can fathom? Do we kick those to the curb who are down? Or do we lend a helping hand to all who are in need? We’re not talking about feeding the guy, just allowing him to play. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  5. >>If I go out into my garage and use a chainsaw to cut off my hand, do I have a disability? No, I'm just an idiot. Careful, I’ve met and played with some of those “idiots”, including one who lost his arm when it was caught up in the fan blade while he was working on his truck. There was nothing idiotic about him. He was just caught up in an accident. Despite his new found disability he was out there playing the game we both enjoy with a full set of limbs. Think about it before you paint with a wide brush [emoji848] Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  6. Thank you JohnSmalls. Direct comparison between the two is what I needed. I thought raising your wrist would wake the Apple watch? Maybe not. Have I made up my mind yet? No but I have some solid thoughts to help [emoji106] Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  7. Thanks Zip. The main use would be golf related. I’m a computer guy so I’m surrounded by clocks all the time. Or my phone is in my back pocket. The exception is when I’m playing golf. I laser at times as well but have ended up using the gps most of the time. Quicker than trying to shoot a pin. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  8. I use a Garmin Approach G10 GPS thingie now, Yes, thingie is a technical term! It can clip onto your belt or bag, ride in your pocket, get lost in the bottom of your bag, wherever! It’s small, lightweight, accurate enough for me and cheap enough. Plastic, crackable as I found out. About $100. I like it, it does what I need for getting ranges to the greens. But I find myself having to listen for my phone for texts or calls. My phone rides in the bag, not in my pocket. As much as I’d to tell the world to go away while I’m playing, that isn’t realistic. I need to stay in touch to a degree. This is where I think a smart watch would come in handy. We all know either the Garmin or Apple smart watches will function as a golf watch. GPS, keep score, maybe some other fancy function I haven’t heard of. Both will notify you of calls and texts, which is what I need. Both have functionality way beyond what I will ever use. Cost-wise there isn’t a lot of difference. The Garmin Vivoactive 3 can be picked up right now for $156. An Apple Watch 3 for $188. (I’m cheap and will not spend a ton on these things that get outdated in a heartbeat, hence the older models listed here) For what it’s worth I use an iPhone 8 now but I am not an Apple fan boy. Value carries the day for me, not fads. Which one do you good folks think is the better? Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy

  14. Sold a car to a Chicagoan today, as I ferried him to his house he gave me a bottle of Goose Island Stout. Says it’s a big deal in Chicago? Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  15. Wait until you see her in a wedding dress. That will make the ductworks open up [emoji24] Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  16. Rev, your question is what is “more” important? If any one of us cannot put a swing on the ball then the ball doesn’t matter. Even with a Rockflite, good players will still be able to score, maybe just not as well.
  17. The world would come unglued if Tiger won. I think I would come unglued! Huge reach for him to pull it off. Brooks is a safer choice.
  18. As mentioned before, had my knee replacement back in November. What you’re saying here fits exactly with my experience . Hang in there Carl! Impress them PT guys [emoji6] Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  19. Father-in-law passed away Easter morning. 90yrs old, always in pretty good health but passed suddenly. Pulling all the pictures together for his service, I was struck by the life he had. A handicapped guy from far southwestern Oklahoma, he traveled the world. Always checking on far flung relatives across the country and friends, he was well loved by many. He and I were not exactly buddies but he introduced me to this game we all love. And I’m grateful for that, and for his daughter [emoji6] So go out and live your life despite any handicap you *might* think you have. Love often and love well. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  20. Thanks deejaid! I have a set of old Ping woods that belonged to my father-in-law. They need a little love and attention. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  21. Carl, Had my knee replacement back in November, I’m 5 months into my recovery. As you might guess there’s good news and not so good news. The good news is I can walk again without much pain, very little in fact. I was able to play 9 in late January and was shocked to notice I could make a full body turn without any pain. Woot! Today I can easily walk 9 holes. Need to build up my endurance but it’s been a long winter, limiting my walks around the neighborhood. I’ll get there. The not so good news? The knee is still a little swollen and stiff. My ortho guy says it takes 6 months to a year before that should go away. I’m impatient and have a tendency to grumble about it. I’m working on being happy for what I have (which is good enough) instead of being the grumbling guy [emoji19] Follow your PT guys advice, stretching the boundaries a bit when you can. Try not to overdo too much though, you’ll be sore afterwards and lose a day. Good luck! Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  22. Gotta agree. I just bought a pair of Adidas Crossknit 2.0 on closeout. You have to understand, my feet are jacked up. Every shoe hurts my feet. But these? Oh my, oh my. I walked 9 yesterday for the first time in 2 years, and felt good at the end. I’m going to go buy another pair just for daily wear. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  23. Hurricane in Colorado today. Wind gusts up to 89mph. Oh yeah, snow as well [emoji944][emoji100][emoji300]️ Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
  24. PGA Tour Live streaming. Yes, the camera work can be shoddy, the commentary sad but if you don’t have cable or the Golf Channel then at least you can see something! I like the way they follow the same groups for the entire round. Allows me to see the ebbs and flows. Anyways, down from $64 to $50. No Masters coverage. https://www.nbcsports.com/gold/pga-tour-live Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy
