  1. I used to buy one and two year old models because new just didn’t make any sense to me at those prices. Then Sub 70 opened for business about a half hour from my house. I figured why not give them a shot. Been more than happy with their products and service. Back in February I went and got fitted for a set of 749 irons. There was a Presidents’ Day discount, I had a gift card and trade ins. I paid just less than $300. I got upgraded shafts and they reshafted my 699U. You can’t beat that for a quality product and service.
  2. I agree start with a 5w. Maybe a 4w if you really had to get close to a 3w but 5 would be better. If you’re looking for what to buy go back in time and find an Adams Tight Lies 2 or Adams Super S. Both are stupid easy to hit. Neither will cost very much so the investment won’t be very much while you’re learning. I still have one of each in my backup/travel bag.
  3. A few years ago I hurt my back when I slipped on swing . Two holes later I couldn’t get the ball out of the hole and went home. Woke up the next day and could barely get out of bed. I had never had back pain like that in my life. My wife who has had 3 spinal fusion operations and goes through periods where her back acts up. She sets me up with an acupuncturist she used from time to time. I’m really not sure but he had helped her quite a bit so I go. My wife went with to see what it looked like since being her back she could never see what happened when he did the treatment. He puts in the needles and my wife said all these red lines went to the area in my back where the pain was. He also gave me some stretches for between treatments. After 5 treatments which was about 2 weeks I was back playing. It took 3 treatments before I felt relief. The next 2 just about knocked the pain out. I would look at doing it again if I ever hurt my back again.
  4. I really like 13 followed by 12, 16 and 11.
  5. Why don’t you set here up with a few lessons and have the instructor be the one to tell her he thinks she is ready for the course. I know with both my kids especially my son with baseball. I would try to teach him something with his hitting or pitching. He’d get tired of me telling him what he needed to do. I had an instructor Work with him tell him the exact same thing and wouldn’t you know it hearing from someone he considered more of an expert that me he was willing to do what I was trying to teach him. Sometimes a different voice is all they need
  6. Sub 70 is a very good DTC option. They have very good clubs. Lots of shaft and grip options. They have clubs for every skill level. The prices are very affordable and they also have preowned clubs that are less expensive. I’d check their website and then if you’re interested give their customer service a call . Their customer service is some of the best I’ve ever dealt with.
  7. My son has those and likes them very much. I tried them when I went to The Seventy for an iron fitting a couple of months ago. I could have easily gone with the 699s but the numbers were a little better with the 749s I ended up purchasing. It was really a coin flip to me but Kevin felt with some physical issues I have the 749 would be a better fit.
  8. Sub 70 and Tour Edge. Both their headquarters are within a half hour of where I live. The wife and I like to support local businesses so they fit the bill. I’ve also been happy with whatever product I’ve gotten from them . Both have excellent customer service. I like Travis Mathew clothing but not at full price.
  9. I don’t have a strong preference. There are things I like about both. Greens in the morning are in much better shape. Of course I get more roll out on my drives in the afternoon so that’s nice.
  10. I played one before I had time to play more. It was a low investment for something I didn’t have a lot of time or money to do. I also learned I liked the game using that set so when the time came when I had the money and time I knew I was spending money for something I enjoyed.
  11. There is no Tiger or Jack and Arnie. Even if all the guys that went to LIV were back. Those 3 had the it factor. Look at the NBA. First it was Magic/Bird, then Jordan came along and after that Kobe and LeBron. The NFL has Mahomes and before that Brady and Manning. Right now there is no dominant figure to appreciate their dominance or hate their dominance and hope someone takes them down. Maybe Scheffler has that chance but can he keep it up. Having that compelling figure draws people to a sport. Right now golf doesn’t have that guy.
  12. I could probably convince myself to go to $200. At the moment though I am happy with my Cleveland Huntington beach Soft #11 I picked up for &129.
  13. If you’re liking the Tokoma price tag check out Sub 70. They have several forged options and an easy to use demo program. Shaft options are plentiful. The return policy is also good if you’re not happy with the irons. They have a pretty long thread on here.
  14. Definitely old reliable. My Tour Edge EXS 220. This will be year number 4. I get plenty of distance and I’ve been consistently over 60% on fairways hit. I have been trying new drivers here and there but I just put new irons in the bag so I’m not in a big hurry to find something.
  15. I would still advise seeing the doc. Best to get it fixed before you go spending money on expensive shoes. He may also determine why the plantar fasciitis started in the first place. In my case it was a higher than normal and almost no fat pad pad on my heels.
  16. I think the best thing to do is go see a podiatrist about custom orthotics. I had a bad case about 15 years ago. I got the shots in the heel and was fitted for orthotics and no problems until 2 years ago. I was a runner and walked playing golf and had no pain. I didn’t get them rechecked at the 10 year like I was supposed to because everything was fine. Two years ago the pain was back. The original orthotics didn’t fit the shape of my feet anymore so I had to go through the heel shots and had my feet refitted for new orthotics. So far so good as long as I avoid walking around barefoot too much. I have had good results with Olukai products. Those are about the only footwear I have found that I can wear without my orthotics that doesn’t cause my Plantar Facitiitis to flare up.
  17. OEM I would say Tour Edge. DTC I’m a huge Sub 70 fan
  18. If there isn’t much difference and if it’s me I’m not spending a $1000. When I had a similar handicap lessons were much more beneficial than any new clubs would have been.
  19. Having just done an iron fitting it was really just a matter finding the right head/shaft combo. I was mostly between two different heads. Both with the same lofts. I tried the same shafts in each and launch was always different. The fitter explained the construction was a little different in the two heads so even with the same loft and shaft they won’t necessarily launch the same. So maybe you just need a shaft change. I was originally going to just change out shafts since I had had lost some swing speed and wasn’t getting the same launch as when I bought my irons a few years ago. Lucky for me I found a gift card. had trade ins and there was a discount on new clubs it ended up being cheaper than just reshafting. So new clubs.
  20. I have one of each. They are both 4s. I went to a fitting trying to figure out the gapping between the 4w and the 5i. That was the combination that worked best for me. They are both pretty forgiving but the hybrid is the longer of the two. I probably trust the utility iron more off the tee because if my swing is a little off the hybrid can get a little hooky. To me it’s really an individual thing best to either try both or go to fitter to figure out what is best for you.
  21. Darn I was just there last week for an iron fitting. I would have been curious to try them. I have always been curious about one length irons
  22. The part about how the shaft pairs with the head is very true. I was in for an iron fitting last week. Tried several shaft on a couple different heads. Som launched higher. Some launched lower. Everyone was a little different. We found a combo that worked well after a bit of trial and error. Before I went in I talked to a club pro I know. He said there are plenty of good heads out there. Finding the right shaft is what makes the biggest difference.
  23. I would say yes. A good fitter will put you in the right shaft which can make a big difference. Also getting the right lie angle makes a difference. I’m not promising you’ll break 80 but if nothing else properly fitted clubs will help make you more consistent. That’s how it worked for me and I did manage to break 80 and shoot a couple of 80s since I was fitted for most of my clubs.
