  1. Peter Western Cape, South Africa H'cap 8 Current irons Cleveland 588 TT PING choice - i500 (Orange dot) Age 74 I have been a fan since the introduction of the PING Eye 2, having had ISI and G15 earlier. After moving to sea level I had a fitting and came away with the Clevelands. The terrible exchange rate has prevented me from going back to Ping.
  2. Good to read about others' experiences. I played Carnoustie in August 1971 and it was easy to get on to the course which at the time, like St Andrews, was a public course with a 5 pound green fee. In spite of the "summer" it was very cold and I wore two light jerseys (sweaters) to keep warm. The locals though were made of far sterner stuff and played golf in normal golf shirts and even sweated a bit because of the "heat"! It was a sunny day with little breeze and I managed to hit a great shot on 16 with my old McGregor keyhole driver and also managed a 3. The rest of the round left something to be desired and in spite of my then 3 handicap I was comfortably over 80. 'Til then it was easily the toughest course I'd played. I'd have loved to try again but having to get to London to work scuppered that.
  3. First name Peter Home State/Province/Country Western Cape South Africa Do you use performance tracking? No Do you use a GPS watch? No Which ones? No watch but Sonocaddie V100 GPS and Sononcaddie app for iPhone It would be interesting to see if this product works in SA and on the courses we have which range from country courses to very upmarket Nicklaus, Els and Player designs.
  4. Hi all My name is Peter and I am a 73 year old from Knysna, South Africa. I've been playing this great game for 65 years (I have my dad to blame for that) and am a total addict. For my sins I am on the club committee and have the greens as my portfolio - hey you have to have something to look forward to in the next life! Knysna is on South Africa's Garden Route and we are fortunate to have a number of top class courses in our area. There are 3 Gary Player, a Jack Nicklaus, an Ernie Els and a Sally Little courses within 40 miles, as well as two world class locally designed clifftop courses that are magnificent tests. There are also 4 other private club courses one of which is Knysna Golf Club, my home club. Unlike the US our clubs while "private" welcome visitors with open arms and there cannot be a better $40 green fee anywhere. The designer courses are also open to all but they charge considerably more - up to $100 to play. This is a beautiful part of the world and for those who travel to South Africa, don't forget your clubs!
