  1. When I first started playing Roger Dunn had a brand called Cougar that was really cheap. I stocked up on them and didn't realize how bad they were until I hit a Top Flight XL.

Those things were like rocks compared to Top Flight, and Top Flights are pretty bad themselves.

  2. Yeah I'm with most here it look like.. Driver, 3w, 3 & 4 hybrid, then 5-Lw.. I get great distance and flight out of my hybrids as well as a little more versatility.. But that's just me..

That is my exact configuration right now. However I still don't trust my hybrids. So it could change unless I get them under control.

  3. Man I love it when others say this. I'm the exact same way, no matter what hybrid I try I just can't be consistent. Makes me feel like I'm not so alone when others rave about how awesome hybos are :D

You're definitely not alone. When I hit a good hybrid shot it's beautiful. Unfortunately I only hit it like that about once in every ten attempts.

I went with an ironwood thinking that would be easier to hit, but I am still trying to figure that out also.

  4. Luke wasn't really Darth Vader's son. Luke was actually the child of a golf pro who couldn't get out of the sand on tatooine... [emoji23][emoji16][emoji23]

  5. Hey all, golfer from from South Orange County here. I grew up in NC, but never played golf growing up. I didn't start playing until last year, at 32. I've been playing for less than a year now, and am still struggling to break 100. I'm a 25hc, but really struggle with consistency throughout a round, often having 1 or more holes in the double digits.

I recently bought my first 'real' set of clubs. I didn't discover MGS until after, which I regret. Luckily, I bought used and had enough sense to hit a bunch of clubs before buying anything.

Right now I'm working on taming my slice, which seems to mostly come out on the back 9.

    Welcome to MGS. North OC.

  6. Heads up for anyone that plays the Kirkland Signature golf ball. They're available online right now, limit two per membership.

I played these all last season and loved them. Can't beat four dozen for 60 bucks.

I just ordered two dozen to check them out.

  7. I bought a sampler of all four Cut balls - red, white, grey and blue. I figure grey will be the one I am most interested in, but I started with the low end red.

They are awful - like rocks. Hopefully the white will at least be playable.

  8. I made the mistake of forgetting my shoes once at the driving range, and the difference was dramatic. Golf shoes support the lateral movement when your lead foot is perpendicular to your target. Regular running shoes are not designed for lateral support like that. My left ankle and foot had much more pressure

. I am sure if I did that regularly I could injure something.

Unfortunately I have two whole boxes of Top Flite XLs. When I played in the 90s they were my favorite ball. Now they're like rocks.

The Top Flite Bomb is a decent ball though.

  10. I'm sure you have been there... some random shopping stop and you find them... some amazing looking golf balls at an unbelievable price - you buy them and are beyond excited to try them, only to find they amount to little more than hitting rocks with your club. LOL

So, what are the worst balls you have had the displeasure of playing?

I would have to place NITRO brand at the top of the list. Seems like a very hard ball, not enjoyable to hit. IMO!

I recently tried a sample sleeve of Cut Red balls and I thought something had happened to my swing. I couldn't hit those rocks at all.

  11. Today is the day my bracket falls apart. It is going to get busted too, unless a 6-seed can overtake a 3-seed.

  12. haha it would be a miracle if I won. I know basketball but haven't kept up at all this year.

I seem to do better when I haven't been paying attention. So I should do really well this year.

  13. Sounds like my experience with hybrids. I've tried several times to move to one, but none of them have managed to kick my 2 iron from my old Eye2 set out of my bag. I'll take a little shorter and lower, but straighter, all day long.

It's too early to know if it will be my solution. But I hit the ironwood at the range last night and it is definitely an improvement over my 3h. Can't wait to try it out on the course, hopefully this weekend.

  14. Same here. My Tour Edge HL3 ironwood should arrive tomorrow. It SHOULD make me more consistent than I am with my current hybrids.

I gave it another try with the hybrids at the range yesterday, and I hit maybe 2 out of 10 shots. The rest were all over the place.

    Maybe this will work better.

    Pick a Winner!

It's that time of the year again. Get the brackets in and you have a chance to win fabulous prizes. What prize? Well how about three dozen personalized Srixon balls?
