  1. I had a putter fitting a few weeks ago at a local spot (shout out No Bogeys Golf) and am liking the results so far. I was very surprised to get fit into an Odyssey Toulon Las Vegas as I generally prefer blades, but it was immediately apparent that the ball was starting much more consistently on my intended line. To be fair, this is something you can discover on your own at your local shop. In my opinion where the fitting really mattered most was loft, lie angle, and length. They helped get that aspect dialed in and my putts seem to be rolling much more quickly than the previously had. My first round with the new putter was about average, second round I was putting quite well and sank two very difficult birdie putts and saved par a few times on 8-15ft putts after mediocre chips.
  2. My 9 iron. Sweet spot is 142-150 yards and it's always pin high, if not nice and close. I find myself thinking of that yardage on par 5's if I don't have a shot of making it in two, though I usually just try and get it close enough for a pitch if that's the case. Even holed out for an eagle from the wrong fairway with it.
  3. A lot of similarities with everyone else. Part of my ritual before the round is to check everything and pick out a divot tool and coin/marker, but I have a spare always in the bag for a forgetful friend (or me). 4. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? Started playing seriously when I was in 7th grade and made the middle school golf team. Played throughout high school but wasn't good enough to play it in college. About a year ago my work colleague got me back into the game and I've been hooked again. So I guess 7 years playing spread out over 15 years. Scoring mostly high 70s to low 80s but can definitely get up in the 90s from time to time What do you love about golf? You can play it a ton of different ways and they're all valid. A relaxing round with buddies with little attention to score or "proper rules" is a great time. Being super focused and imagining I'm back in competition? Great! Somewhere in between? All good with me. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? Initially the chance to demo and test products. I haven't won any of the Testers Wanted but that's what drew me in. Since then, reading reviews of products I'm interested in but in a real-world setting and not beholden to the marketing fluff. Where are you from? What is your home course? Chicagoland orginally. Currently in Lake Forest, CA (south OC). Home course is probably Rancho San Joaquin, walkable track at good pricing if you're in the player's club. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Pricing, there are some courses that charge way more than the conditions and design deserve (unless you head inland) Pace of play can be an issue as well. Good thing is the variety, especially further inland there are some outstanding courses that don't break the bank. What do you do for a living? Customer service / tech support / warranty / whatever needs to get done for a bicycle component manufacturer. How’d you pick your user name? Been my gamertag for a while, use it as a reminder to relax and enjoy. Works for golf too!
  5. I've tried CBD for aches and pains (both isolate and full spectrum) and can't say they were effective for me in regards to pain. The full spectrum does make me a little more relaxed and has helped me fall asleep, something I have trouble with occasionally, but the one round I played after taking the full spectrum was hot garbage. So when it comes to golf, it's a pass for me.
  6. Lucas Bjerregaard Tiebreaker: -9
  7. I used the Tour SNSR grip for a short while but it was too soft for my liking, though I had no qualms on the shape. Went to a Superstroke Pistol w/ counterweight and can't see myself changing anytime soon.
  8. Glad to see I wasn't nuts in preferring a firmer feel in my balls. All puns aside, gonna send the results to my player partners who swear softer is better.
  9. Mine are still going strong with about 5 or 6 walking rounds, so here's hoping it was an isolated issue!
  10. Admittedly I'm a bit of a Titleist fanboy, but in my experience is that people think of them as a ball company first and club manufacturer second.
  11. Occasionally played the Vice Pro and Pro Plus, but always ended up playing the Vice Tour. I'm not sure why but it suited my game more than the "pro" options. I love the aesthetic of their equipment, but recently found great luck with purchasing used practice Titleist balls and haven't looked back (full disclosure, I'm a bit of a Titleist fanboy)
  12. Photo courtesy of the interwebs: The player: Current gamer - Titleist Pro V1x / Taylormade TP5x Handicap or Ave score - 8hdcp 7 iron carry distance with current ball - 175 Trajectory - mid/high Putter - Scotty Cameron Newport 2 The ball: 2019 OnCore Elixr Distance - Same or slightly less (wind was swirling, hard to tell) Trajectory - high Spin - stop or spin back Feel - soft Durability (1 round) - very good Rating - Casual Notes or writeup: So since OnCore had a giveaway and I received my free sleeve, I figured the least I could do would be a short review of my impressions. Overall I am quite happy with the performance. It seemed to launch pretty high and wasn't terribly affected by some of the surprisingly strong winds I ended up playing in. The feel off the clubface was a bit too soft for my preferences, even though it performed similarly to some high end balls. Distance seemed good, I was lucky enough to be playing alone after work so I could hit 2 balls. On two seemingly well struck balls the Taylormade (TP5 this day) I was playing went ever so further, which seems impressive considering how soft off the face the OnCore felt. My biggest gripe, as embarrassing as it is to admit, is the aesthetics. In my humblest, uneducated opinion, the graphics on the ball are not pleasing to the eye at all. I feel silly for saying this, but it translated to not having much confidence in standing over the ball, it just looks cheap - despite how well it performed. If you are interested in the Elixr and the design on the ball is not important to you, I would not hesitate to recommend this ball. Until the logo is changed, shrunk, or something else, I wouldn't buy these balls for myself.
  13. I really like mine. Comfy for walking, good grip, and they breathe well while still being water resistant. I wouldn't call the sole-lace revolutionary or anything, the midfoot is a bit on the snug side but I like it.
  14. Vice Tour: A Review I suppose I should get a baseline down of my impressions before eventually reviewing other balls. A quick backround might be important. I played very seriously when I was younger, to the point of making the Varsity team while in middle school (private K-12). My peak game was approaching scratch golf senior year of high school and entering college. My university didn't have a team, so when it came to golf and suddenly have to pay my own way it fell by the wayside. Recently, through the influence of a coworker, I got back into a "good walk spoiled" and am starting the journey back to playing well. Previously, my biggest strength was the short game and my weak link was control (specifically distance) on my irons. All of this was nearly 12 years ago. Current gamer - Vice Tour Handicap - 15ish (and trending down) 7 iron carry - 165 Trajectory - mid/high Putter - Cleveland Huntington Beach 3 The ball: Vice Tour Distance - baseline review Trajectory - mid/high Spin - dead stop to 2-4 feet of back up, depending Feel - solid but not harsh Durability (1 round) - occasional scuffs Rating - current gamer Thoughts: No doubt you know Vice's MO. Great balls at lower prices because they are direct to consumer. Consider me a fan. I used their ball selector and ended up with the tour. This was shortly after my first round back in January and I shot a 108 on an easy course (Jurupa Hills CC). I decided to order some new balls and saw enough good information to order the Vice Tour's. I've been working on my game lately and have shot as low as an 80 (Oak Quarry, with a couple mulligans. Probably closer to a 85 if played properly). Even as my game progresses I'm not sure if I'd move on, the ball delivers what I want. Feel is consistent, even mishits are OK enough. Doesn't spin too much as to throw you into another fairway off the tee or back up off the green if struck appropriately. My one complaint is the cover. It is very possible to (not insignificantly) scuff the cover on a wedge shot where you are aiming for more than usual backspin. Off the tee: Solid with drives. Nothing crazy but I'm happy with the length. Iron play: great amount of check when hitting the green. Around the green: Good backspin but not too much Putting: feels soft enough, built in alignment line is a plus I like the premarked alignment logo, the feel, the predictability, the aesthetic, the price, and basically everything else. I would highly recommend the Vice Tour to those looking to save some money while improving their game. I'm interested in the new balls from Snell, KSig's, and going back to my previous brand Titleist, but what initially sold me on Vice was a combination of the price and the graphic design. I am vain about certain things, I'm not sure why. I love the Vice logo and am looking forward to trying other models of theirs as I get back to what I know I'm capable of.
