  1. My worst feeling was the TaylorMade Nubbins.
  2. I snapped one a week ago and tossed it out. Just another mistake of mine. Here I thought I would be a good idea to get rid of the evidence before SWMBO saw it broken.
  3. I actuallyhave recently tried a few different Bridgestone balls that were finds on the golf course and was impressed. Looking forward to trying some new ones out. Thank you to Bridgestone and the MGS Forum Staff for this opportunity.
  4. 0h no, I had tequila with dinner and after. I think I should go right back to my hotel room before its to late.
  5. Building my first HO scale golf scenery A month or two ago I mentioned I was thinking about building a scale model of Augusta’s 12th hole. I had some rainy days lately, so I got started. I took some design liberties in order to squeeze some other features in. The first stage was to get a piece of plywood for the base and draw my intended layout. Then I used Styrofoam to get a rough shape and show elevation changes. These were then glued down to the plywood. Once I got the shape roughly the way I wanted I used spackling compound to give everything a skim coat and blend the pieces together to look more natural. Once the compound was semi dry, I dabbed the terrain areas with a towel to get a grain texture. I made sure to leave the fairways and tee boxes smooth. Then added in Hogan’s bridge using three pieces of ¾” PVC and an archway made out of Styrofoam. Glued that in place and added some more spackle to blend it in. The spackle was used to also give me a decent painting surface. The next stage was to paint a base layer. This way if there are any imperfections when spreading the grass, sand, and woodland area materials any thin areas will still have the base paint underneath to look full. Then while waiting between events at one of my daughter’s track meets, I looked down and saw the perfect stone I would need for Hogan’s Bridge. I got some looks from SWMBO as she knew exactly why I was sorting through handfuls of small stone. The next area was Ray’s Creek. I had a straight pass through between sheets of Styrofoam, so I added more spackle to create a more winding effect. Then painted the creek and added a few stones. I then worked on stoning the bridge. I still have a way to go. The three types or grasses, the woodland floor, trees, shrubs, azalea bushes, and clear epoxy for the water in the creek and the pond. Of course there will be golfers out on the course. The sad part is they will be out on Agusta with clubs before I will ever be. As I get more things done, I'll keep updating this thread. I'm traveling for work this week so not much will get done. Hoping to get this complete by the Masters. Should be achievable since it only took a few hours to get to this point. Now just sitting in my hotel room trying to figure out how to make miniature rakes for the traps. The flags should be easy.
  6. I’ve been to the Masters a few times. The experience was amazing but I would rather play it once and not go back. Truthfully I rather watch it on TV these days. You miss so much being there. You’re on one hole and you hear a roar from another. No clue into you get to a leaderboard on what happened. Phones are not permitted. The last time I went I recorded the Masters do so could see what I missed.
  7. 150, I hit the pocket consistently but always got a 9 count and missed the spare too many times. Dam 10 pin.
  8. I found out something very important yesterday. DO NOT PLAY GOLF AFTER GOING BOWLING THE NIGHT BEFORE! Saturday was family night. They all decided we should go bowling and then out for dinner. Well, I was once a good bowler carrying a 200+ average. So, I drug out my three-ball bowling bag and gave everything a cleaning. Good to go. Let's just say that I haven't bowled since my kids were born and the oldest is 22. Heaving 15-pound balls for several games was probably not smart. I had to take two Advil before going to bed. I was one sore SOB. My next mistake was going golfing the next morning. I figured the golf would loosen me back up. For someone who hits straight drive this was not the case yesterday. I was short and off into the right rough or pine needles with every drive. My irons were okay, but I couldn't rotate enough with the woods. The wind didn't help either. After 9 holes of pain and torture I headed home. I am still sore today. This getting old thing sucks. We won't talk about the score in either sport!
  9. There is absolutely no pressure on the range. You have a bucket of balls right there. I have a friend who is what I call a driving range pro. He can hit any shot at the range. But on the course he was horrible. Gets mad, throws clubs, curses. The kind of golfer you don’t want to play a round of golf with. He lives up north and I live in the south these days. So this is look back in time. After several rounds of golf with him I couldn’t handle it any more. I put five balls down on the first tee box for him. Told him his first four tee shots didn’t count. Sure enough he piped his first ball down the center of the fairway. I did this for every shot for the first few holes. It showed him that it was all in his head. That was an extreme example but we all have thoughts that creep in. Thinking too much can cause you to get mechanical in your swing. This adds stress. Extra grip pressure causes your club to rotate closed. A little waggle in your pre-shot routine will loosen you up. Many times the course messes with you as well. “ Looks like trouble on the right. I don’t want to go there.” Well if that’s what you were thinking about that’s where the ball will go. “Don’t be short” and you either chunk it or skull it. Keep positive and think, I’m going to put this just short of the pin leaving an uphill putt. Commit to the shot. The results will be better. I can’t hit a ball 280 yards anymore and the harder I try the less predictable the outcome of the drive will be. So by throttling down a bit I’m in position every time, okay 90% of the time. Staying in play is the most important thing to lower scores.
  10. I can say based on my home course that I use every club in my bag each round. Its all about the layout of courses.
  11. I started off with a Bushnell Pro 500 laser. The dam thing was a two hander ship binoculars type. Then the Golflogix came out but it only held 5 courses and you had to pay a subscription every year. You had to plug into your computer, delete and upload courses all the time. Turned into a pain in the ass. Then I moved onto a TecTecTec laser which worked well for several years. I kept it in my golf bag when flying. I guess the lack of pressurazition in cargo weakened a seal and the optics would fog up and you couldn’t read some of the digits. Then moved on to the TecTecTec GPS watch. You got key yardage to traps, water and front middle and back of greens. Having small greens this worked fine but I realized I hate wearing a watch. Finially moved back to a laser and use the Cobalt this is by far the best laser I ever had or tried. Only draw back is they are useless on foggy days. I just have to remember to keep my GPS watch in my bag for those foggy mornings.
  12. @Peter-T there is a good selection of courses in the south eastern part of Connecticut and crossing over into Rhode Island. You also have the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casio’s near by for nightlife. If that’s of interest let me know and I will recommend courses to look at. I lived in that area for 10 years and played about 20 courses in that area.
  13. Well 8 hours later I just realized I shot my age. It was going to be the only way I could do it.
  14. If your second guy is as good as mine was , you’re going to have some low scores. Have fun
  15. So I don’t know what happed. I put in 0 for handicap and I shot a 64 with 8 birdies. Then it posted a 74?
  16. Date 03/08/2024 Course Name Scotch Meadows Gross Score 64 Course Handicap 0 Gross Strokes over/under par -8 Net Score to Par -8 Net Score 64 Net Birdies or better 8 Longest Drive 240 TYPE OF ROUND SOLO SCRAMBLE I need to bring the second guy with me more often. The additional putt was a big help. But having a second shot on everything really took the stress away and I was able to free swing so to speak. I was able to use my first shot on a lot of holes. This was a blast and I plan on doing it a couple times a season just for fun.
  17. Got 9 in with my daughter today. She is home on spring break from college. We got done just in time for the community call. Very interesting playing a one man two ball scramble. I played my normal game on the first ball and took chances on the second ball. Some worked some didn’t but overall this was fun. Always nice to have a second putt. So far I am four under with the front 9 complete.
  18. Well my plumber finally showed up today. Been waiting since Friday. They showed up at 6pm and left at 9 pm. What a disaster. They had to replace the drain piping from the upstairs shower. The faucet was original from the 80’s and of course they don’t make replacement cartridges for those any longer. Well it’s all replaced. Now my work starts. I have a hole cut in my bedroom ceiling so they could get to the drain. Then they had to cut a section of the wall out in my son’s bedroom to get to the plumbing. Look out Lowe’s here I come. Sheetrock joint compound, and paint. Of course I have a textured ceiling to boot. I’m ready to hit the sack.
  19. Remember guys and gals. If you are participating in the solo scramble, then do not use a course handicap. You will put "0" in that box.
  20. Good morning, everyone. Just finished up a bunch of reports and stuff for work. I'm in the need for some breakfast right about now. I have been waiting on a plumber since Friday. Every day he says he is coming today. We have a leak from the upstairs bathroom when you turn on the shower. Unfortunately, the leak showed up by way of my bedroom ceiling. My fear is they will have to open up the wall in one of the upstairs bedrooms to get to the issue. That means sheet rock replacement, spackling, sanding and painting in the bedroom and spackling, texture matching, stain block and painting the Master bedroom ceiling. Not fun but I'll get r done. It sure would be nice to be golfing instead.
  21. This time of year, I actually plan on hitting it in the rough. The fairways are dormant and are all very tight lies. I make better contact out of the rough. There is actually grass there (dormant as well but taller grass than hard pan). I know I've mentioned it a ton of times, but my course has a lot of dog legs. I rather hit it long and into the rough and have a PW into the green than stay in the fairway and have an 8 iron or more. If a course had 4" deep rough, then that's a different story. In my mind if I hit it where I want then it's my personal FIR regardless of if it is actually in the fairway. I put it where I wanted to allow the best and shortest shot into a green. Thats a win in my book.
  22. Boy have things changed over the years. I've been around a few years now and in the past, you could get up to speed by pressing the recent content button and look at four or five thread content titles. Now with all the activity and all the new members this old dog needs to find a new trick. I can hit the recent content button and have to go through several pages before it is older news. Such an incredible movement forward for the forum. Keep up all the good work (Forum Staff and Members). This golf season should be crazy with content. I do have to remind myself that I'm still actually supposed to be working (like now).
  23. I scored horrible today but played well. Makes no sense right. But I’ll explain. I left the house at 7:30 and it was a little foggy. I got to the course and it was dense fog. You couldn’t see the ball after 30 /40 yards. Always being one to take on a golf challenge I teed off. I had to use a lime green ball just to get a sense of direction after the strike. The positive, I didn’t lose a ball. The negative I didn’t think to bring a GPS and my laser was useless. Not being able to see a green or even judge distance was a fun challenge. I only parred 3 holes on the front 9 and bogeyed the rest. I consider that a win. By the back 9 it cleared up and the pars were back on track with one birdie. It was a crazy thing to try but I had fun.
