  1. I'll just speak from personal experience on this one. It's a fun little chart but has no real bearing because if a 20 handicapper breaks 80 or shoots 82 it can happen out of the blue or be part of a hot streak that would lower their handicap, right? So when you add in the low scores they are no longer a 20 handicapper, at least for that timeframe. Garmin says I'm currently a 21.4 (this makes me very sad) but I've never been better than a 16 and I've shot 82 5 different times over the course of the last 10 years and all of them were in a window of about 3 years when I was playing more often and before my shoulder surgery. So, to go back to the chart, a 15 should shoot 82 once every 3.4 years, I've never been a 15 and blew that out of the water during a few years that, in retrospect, were the best golf of my life. Still, never got lower than a 16 handicap on any of the tracking apps that I've used over the years, and was probably around a 20 the first time I shot 82, so I guess that was the only one I get at 20 or above, haha. Rambling thoughts concluded.
  2. Congrats testers, looking forward to reading all about these putters!
  3. I've always been a cart bag guy. Can keep a few beers cold long enough to sneak them onto the course and riding is basically universally required down here anyway. My bag is an old (15 years or so) Nike cart bag. It does the job but I'll prob get a new one in the coming years. I'm always checking out the MGS most wanted on cart bags and stand bags, haha.
  4. Thanks for the continued replies on this everyone! I may end up getting that utility iron someday, haha. I did end up getting the same shafts in the wedges (Hogan Equalizer IIs) but I'm not sure I'm sold on them. I may be in the market for a new set of wedges in the not too distant future and I think I'll go with the S-400 in those instead of the X-100 I have in my iron set. We'll see...
  5. So I'm not exactly new but I don't think I've ever done one of these introductions, so I figured now was as good a time as any... Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Florida How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? - I've been playing off and on since sometime in college. It wasn't until after college that I got really into it and started playing most weekends throughout the summers when it was more affordable to play (we have a hardcore "season" here in southwest FL when rich people from up north flood down here Oct-April and prices get crazy). At my best my average score was in the mid 80s but that was before a shoulder surgery in 2017 took me out for 6+ months and I've not played as often or as well ever since, despite the shoulder not being a problem any more. Average score these days is in the mid to upper 90s unfortunately, haha. What do you love about golf? - The chance to compete and try your best at something that is quite hard. I was a big team sport guy growing up and don't have many outlets for that competitive fire as an adult. Golf lets me compete against me and against the course. Plus, drinking beers outside with people you enjoy spending time with is a great way to spend part of a day! What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? - As I said in my brief opener, I'm not really knew here but looking to get more involved, we'll see if I can stick to it, haha. I've appreciated MGS since I first found them on Twitter many years ago for the honest and transparent reviews of golf equipment. Where are you from? What is your home course? - I'm from right here in southwest Florida, born and raised, second generation (which is rare down here, haha). Currently I call Estero, FL home and have since 2007 when I bought my house there. I don't really have a home course, there are so many good ones around here. I'll play anywhere I can get on as long as it doesn't break the bank. Old Corkscrew is one of the nicer ones that's close to home but it is a tough one! What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? - I'll try to keep this section as brief as a I can because I could go on and on, haha. Best things are the ability to play year round and the quantity of courses available, many of them kept in great shape. Worst thing is the aforementioned season when it becomes really hard to get on a course for less than $100/round and the nicer courses well over $200/round and above. The other thing that comes with season golf, and really, year round golf here is lack of time between tee times and overcrowded course and 4.5 hr rounds practically every time out despite many courses not allowing walking. I think walking a round of golf would be great but it's just not done down here as that would require spacing out tee times further than the course will allow as they try their best to get as many people out as possible to make the course a viable option business-wise. There are likely some private courses (there are many, some extremely exclusive) that allow walking but that's because they rely on membership to cover operating costs and do not need revenue from the actual golfing. What do you do for a living? - I am a commercial construction project manager How’d you pick your user name? - Relatively simple, Hammer is a nick-name (born from the fact I was on a bowling team using a ball from the brand Hammer and I through the ball very fast so people just started calling me hammer. Since I'm in construction I liked it and it has stuck) Hunt is my last name and 64 was my number back in the high school football glory days. Glad to be here and happy to introduce myself fully finally! Happy golfing everyone!
  6. Funny to look back and see that about 2 years ago I was thinking about a utility iron and I just posted in the "what equipment are you thinking about thread" that that was one of the things (besides all new irons, haha) that I was currently eyeing. The itch never goes away I guess, lol
  7. Man, I like this topic! haha I've been obsessed with looking into equipment recently. I'd love to pull the trigger on a combo set of Sub70 659 CB and TC but I'm not sure I play enough to justify doing it. I also may not be on the ball striking level I need to be to get the most out of them. I've gone as far as plugging all my old equipment into the "trade-in program" area on their website to see how much I could get out of the ones I'm replacing and all the other stuff just laying around in the garage. Barring a full iron set I've been considering a utility iron, like a 2 iron, just for some fun off the tee, haha. Still, as much as I'd like to constantly be getting new stuff, I'll have to play a lot more to make it worth it....alas, someday!
  8. For me, mostly because I don't play often enough, it's hard to keep track of how long they really last. Basically, I keep them until the palm rips, haha. That could be as little as 3-4 rounds depending on how long I go between rounds since the gloves are typically attached to my bag and my bag is in my garage where it's nice and hot for most of the year (SWFL). I like the Asher gloves just based on style options and their leather is pretty good too. I've never really considered a "glove caddy" or storage unit but maybe I should so that the periods of time that I'm not playing the gloves can be more protected. I'm intrigued by the Red Rooster quality since it has won most wanted awards but the styling really isn't for me. Hopefully they'll expand their lineup even further!
  9. Looking for advice here. I need new wedges but want to know if i should do a fitting or get them in the same wedges as my irons? Also considering a utility club with the same question, match to the irons get fitted? I can appreciate the advantages of getting professionally fitted but that cost adds up. Interested to hear what thoughts are out there on this! Thanks!
  10. Anybody have any tips on how to make hitting into a net actually worth the practice? I mean if I can't see where the ball is going (I've been working on not over drawing/hooking irons) how do I know if the practice is doing me any good and not just creating bad habits that'll have to be corrected when I can see where the ball is going? Maybe I just need a launch monitor...anybody got a fancy one they want to let me borrow? haha
