  1. The hardest hole at our course has a fun story the old pro likes to tell so I'll do my best here. It's the 18th at Belvedere in Sherwood Park, AB, Canada (Where Chuba Hubbard is from for those college football fans). Anyway, the pro organized Moe Norman to come by and give the members some lessons for a weekend. Before the lessons start, he and Moe go out and play a quick 18, and our course is nice and is in good shape, but is not a jaw-dropper by any means. So they're playing and Moe is getting all the GIRs but can't putt to save his life but is fairly unimpressed with our course. Then he comes to the 18th: an elevated green, long long par four with a slight dog leg left and a postage stamp green surrounded by bunkers. Moe takes one look and says, "Whoa! What's this hole doing on this course?" The pro always likes to add in that he beat Moe by 3 strokes, but his second job is a realtor so who really know. 2. I think I'd choose lowest score. One of my nightmares is getting a hole-in-one while having a horrible round otherwise. "That's great you got an ace! What did you shoot?" "95. [emoji2961]" Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app

  5. Love that idea. I've tried adding one to par on each hole but it doesn't trick my brain enough. I think I'll start using your way, but play "14" instead. I've also found that repeating "Never mad with a bogey" helps me too. Even if I three (or four) putt, I'll never be mad at myself for a bogey. Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  6. I dunno, the one near where I am (The Northern Bear) is a sand trap haven that punishes misses. I'm surprised I haven't seen lifeguards roaming around. Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  7. Damn, who is your teacher?? I've been taking lessons for two years, and I've definitely improved but not in the 70s yet. But I remember shooting a 102 when I first started and thinking "Man, I'm good." If I did that today I'd rage quit for a month. It's all relative. Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  8. Totally agree. That's what putting greens and chipping areas are for. Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  9. In my opinion, that's ok. Getting to the green is the hard part when first starting. If you have to pick up before you get there... Well that's one less 3 putt that a fellow golfer has to go through! Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  10. 3 hours for nine? What were the scores like? When my friends and I were starting out, we'd cap each hole at double par and that seemed to work. No one ever asked us to speed up and now we don't need a cap anymore. Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  11. Yeah. Phil would complain and then shoot - 2. Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  12. This is a thing I need to keep in mind. If the course says 4 I'm always trying to get a 4 which leads to more blowup holes than I would like. As my friend says, "They need to pay me a salary to manage the course." Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  13. In my imaginary Field of Dreams course, I'd probably flip it so that Tuesday and Thursdays are for speed rounds that are finished in 3:45 max with flags on the putting green that are non-removable. I think that would get the point across. My unpopular opinion is that wives should be invited to play sometimes (if they can). Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  14. I just got into Overwatch. I'm used to COD but it's so fun I can't stop! Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  15. With absolutely no data to support this whatsoever, I'd say that seems about right until you go to fancier clubs that use nicer range balls. I've heard what you have, but don't know if it's because the balls are made that way or because they've been used so much. I'm sure another spy knows the truth. 16. Yup, so 150 m markers are 164 yds from the hole. But I just though I was hitting my 8 iron horribly short!! Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  17. It looks gorgeous, but playing that hole is friggin tough!! Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  18. Loved it!!! Played West Cliffs twice it was so good. Also played Seve's course first but took me 3 holes to figure out you guys use 150 m instead of 150 yards. [emoji2357]But can't wait to come back. Thanks for your help! Here's a picture of the view from the 18th at West Cliffs. Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  19. I play with my father-in-law a few times a year and I am consistently shocked at how much he cheats. Unlimited mulligans, moving his ball a couple feet closer every stroke for no reason, dropping a ball in the fairway and not counting a lost ball, the list goes on. It drives me crazy! I don't want to say anything because outside of that he's a great guy and I don't want to change the dynamics of the relationship, so I'll continue to piss and moan in silence. The worst part about it is he tells me his scores when I didn't play with him, and somehow he drops 15 strokes when I'm not there. When he's with me he consistently shoots around 100, but then he'll brag and expect me to be impressed when he says he shot an 84 the other day. All I can think about is how much he needed to cheat to get there. Anyway, rant over. I can never be too upset because it's golf and I'm outside drinking beers doing something I love. 20. In terms of handicap I have the same numbers (and goal) as you so I'm really curious and excited for you to see how it goes! Last season I made some strides playing 1-2 times a week, but this season I should be going nearly every day in the summer. Anyway, you may have already answered this but how often are you planning on playing this upcoming season? Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app

  22. Similarly, my buds and I will always yell "GET THERE!!!" after a duff with no chance of getting there. Also, "Forgot to put your purse down first" on short putts. Finally, "You'll have to go to Narnia to find that ball" when a shot goes way into the trees. Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  23. Too bad there's no shipping to Canada. :( Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  24. I'm pretty sure the rule in this case is to replace your ball to where it was before it got knocked, otherwise it's a one stroke penalty. Please correct me if I'm wrong though! Sent from my Nexus 6P using MyGolfSpy mobile app
