  1. Currently i only carry a 52° wedge.  I might add another at some point,  only 11 clubs in my bag.

I know arcoss/SS show that the 60° wedge is statistically the worst club in an amatuers bag.  So,  if recommend maybe not hitting that unless you really really have to.

My advice for chipping around the green is to find the club that fits the shot in your mind,  and not the other way around.  I.E. if when you walk up to your ball you envision a shot that flies high and checks hard you probobly will be better with a 56/58 around the green.  If you see a short bump and lots of run,  maybe a 8i it's your play.

If when I'm practicing i keep leaving chips short,  i take a less lofted club instead of changing my swing and tempo. Or a more lofted club off i keep hitting long.  But i try not to change my swing of i don't have to.  Keeps my ball striking more consistent.

Was looking at those for my cuter golf partner last year but she felt wanted a set of clubs with traditional irons. Those are definitely on my radar, though, for sometime in my future.

Anyway enjoy your new magic sticks and hope they help restore confidence and improve your game!! 👍

We went and played 9 last night for her to put them in play for the first time.  Those T Rails are amazing.  I've never seen her get the height and distance that she was with them.  She liked them better than the Taylormade and the Cleveland versions.  i think they are going to be great for her.

... Good stuff T2W but that number is actually much higher as they didn't have data for 15 of 50 in the article you linked below. But for me, the most impressive graphite in irons stat most of the #1 on the LPGA Tour all use Steelfiber irons shafts. Jin Young Ko, Nelly Korda, Lydia Ko and Ariya Jutanugarn. Quite a range as L. Ko is a smooth swinger and A. Jutanugarn a hard hitter and Nelly something in-between. Repeating ad naseum if anyone wants a reference point for pro golfers, Jin Young Ko setting a record of 63 consecutive greens in regulation is a record that has a 99% chance of never being equaled using Steelfiber shafts. So much for an accuracy argument. And while forum members certainly have some 100+ swingspeeds, the vast majority swing under 100 and the LPGA is a much better representation of what works for average than the PGA Tour.

... FWIW, I don't need a consensus of players used for a review or any technical data from an iron Byron to tell me something I know from personal experience. Graphite is better than steel in my irons for my swing and even if it were barely nosed out by the performance of steel (which it isn't) the physical advantages of less wear and tear on my body are reason enough for me to play graphite in my irons.

"In total we found 11 of the top 50 players on the LPGA Tour use graphite iron shafts in their set with another 24 preferring steel shafted irons. Ally Ewing was again an outlier using a graphite iron shaft in her 5-iron before switching to a steel iron shaft for the rest of her irons.

A complete data set was again not available when it came to comparing how many LPGA players use graphite iron shafts with no data being available for 15 players on this topic"

I'm with you on this being able to golf without wrist pain and shoulder pain make graphite shafts superior without any other benefit for me.

But yeah,  now i want steelfibers based on the lpga domination.

Perhaps, but with so much parity within the field, they seem to always be looking for and switching to all things offering an advantage...miniscule as they often are. I can't say for certain, but how many think there are pro level golfers who haven't done pretty exhaustive levels of composite iron shaft fittings/testing?  Presuming the answer is virtually all of them (correct answer btw), does it not seem odd that, if composite was better, heck, even equal too, way more players would be using them?

This speaks to my point. Custom shafts with derivative level of fit to a specific players need is something possible with composite.

Is this driver/fairway shafts only or irons too?  With as much comparative testing that goes into all other equipment/component, it surprises me more deep dives (testing) into this subject/debate aren't being done.  And yes, I get the "individual feel" point, but that can be applied to almost everything in the bag and cannot be measured.

Ego.  Why don't pros play game improvement irons?  They hit the ball straighter and are more forgiving.

Why drive a manual transmission when automatics are faster and have better gas mileage?

Why does your average weekend golfer play tee boxes that are 500y too long?

Why do i want a set of blades?

Why don't hybrids see much tour(pga) play?

    It's all ego.

If Tiger starts playing graphite, then other tour players would immediately switch,  but without that big name breaking the mold,  why get teased on the 1st tee?

Graphite iron shafts have a stigma about them that says they are targeting the same demographic viagara does. Tour players don't want to put themselves in that category.

Just about 23% of the top 50 lpga players use graphite (https://golfingfocus.com/what-irons-do-lpga-players-use-top-50-pros-analysis/) they seem less concerned about what Jack, Tiger or whoever played.

Pro's aren't using steel driver shafts either, but the vast majority are using steel in irons.  I'm neither agreeing or disagreeing with your proclamation.  But this is why we need the independent, third party, truth digest findings.  Let the data set us free 😊.

For those tour players,  they tend to stick with what they know.  Keopka still has a nike iron in his bag,  was it kuchar that is using irons from 2010?

They pros are all so good,  and while I'm on team graphite,  i think on irons the gains are minimal and if you trust what you are playing there isn't a need to switch.

  6. Okay,  which of you is using a steel driver shaft?

I didn't think so.  Why would you think that a graphite iron shaft couldn't handle the swing and torque if driver shafts that are 10" longer can handle it?

graphite is 100% the better option 100% of the time.  Stronger,  lighter and more consistent.  But,  im happy for you to go back to a steel driver shaft to try and prove me wrong. 🤣

They may be on the board of the new company, it doesn’t mean that they have any role when it comes to the pga tour or dp world tour or even the liv tour. The new company isnt necessarily responsible for the tours but rather financial decisions as far as business ventures like buying a course, sponsorship money.

when you look at the statement from monahan about the guidelines about the suspensions of the players and that reinstatement, there is probably some policy in the players handbook that states a process for reinstatement after any kind of suspension. It appears that monahan is the ultimate decision maker and said it’s going to be costly. So financial hit is more than likely and a big hit would be to keep them from events other than previously qualified for majors that would further impact their world ranking points. Only being able to play 4 times a year in an event that earns points would be a big penalty. Would keep them out of a lot of tournaments upon the the end of their suspension. Also could see those who resigned from the tour being forced to qualify like everyone else and possibly having to go the KF route

All that's possible,  but i have to believe that the goal is to mend and heal,  not punish and divide.

  8. I'm guessing right now,  both PGA and LIV players and their agents are trying to figure out what the future holds.

Given that the PIF paid for the LIV players,  and now the that the PIF is on the board, i don't see how fining players that went to LIV makes sense.  Likewise a suspension seems odd.

Id rather see a mechanism that rewards the players that stayed instead of trying to punish the players that left.

I'm curious to know what exactly was said by Al-Rumayyan that made Jay Monahan trust him within 10 minutes of sitting down.  I would assume it was something straight out of the Wreck It Ralph Bad-Anon meeting.

    image.png.62122f8890219c126296b7fc2006ebe9.png

Monahan, who has repeatedly said he would not speak to PIF representatives and pushed the Tour’s “legacy," told the Financial Times that he began to trust the PIF’s Yasir Al-Rumayyan “10 minutes after sitting down with him in Venice."

  10. I worked at a ski resort in Colorado,  and we did an Employee fundraiser every year after the lifts closed for the winter.  The holes were hula hoops painted orange,  the 9 hole course was laid out over the beginner area and the base area. It was a 9i event only. And given that the course was literally 3' deep snow you had to dig to find each shot.  Played that 1 year in 14°f and snowing. But was dressed for it,  and it was always fun.

I'm watching TGC coverage on this right now... kind of weird really.  They have a live feed of players leaving the "players meeting" with Jay. I have to think the players feel really betrayed, none more so that McIlroy, and some ill feelings towards Jay will not go away too soon.  It would not surprise me that Monahan goes away sooner than later.

    He replaces Jay Monahan.

they both have to be on the way out.

  12. I'm not surprised that there was a merger in the end, that seemed like the most likely outcome going back 18 months. I am very surprised that that outcome has the PIF basically buying the PGA Tour, that is not what I would have ever thought was on the table. Jay was out of his element then, and he is out of his element now. Hard to decide if the PGA, CNN or Twitter is having a worse year for their bosses right now.

You definitely feel for Rory and that group who were asked to champion the tour, turn down the big guaranteed LIV money and then have this happen this way. I guess the PIF called Jay and asked if he would rather keep going through the courts or take $4 Billion.

The way that neither LIV or the PGA informed any of their players is crazy, i don't see how Greg(who probably was never told) or Jay keeps their roles coming out of this.

I get the sportswashing, I get 9/11(I was in the military when it happened and deployed to Afghanistan as a result). My belief is sports washing occurs if you can do it without people knowing. The USA still competed in 2 Olympic events this century in China and 1 in Russia. That is as sports washing as it gets. The World Cup, F1 and the DP world tour all host events in these countries. It isn't right, I'm sure a quick poll asking if any of those places should host international events should be allowed and the short answer is going to be NO. Yet, NBC paid billions to get the rights to the Olympics, ESPN did the same for F1 and the World Cup. Every year when F1 goes to Saudi Arabia the drivers host boycotts and stage events to support women's right, this year having local female race car drivers take part in the event.

If the Golfer that get involved with this stay outspoken and continue to raise the social awareness that only helps things change. But, the PGA got paid, the DP tour got paid, many players got paid, and purses will continue to go up. in the end, Billions erase many resistances.

I'm going to need about two weeks to figure out what my take is on this.

Same. Need more info on this new "commercial" tour and how it impacts the non-profit PGA Tour, and exactly where PIF money is going.

    Only two weeks?

This is wild. So many knock on effects... What do I do with my fantasy team? Should I be running to the waiver wire to grab brooks and cam?

This is crazy, did not expect to see this news anytime soon!

All the guys that turned down big-money contracts from LIV to stay on the tour must be kicking themselves now…

I think this a great for the golf professionals,  and great for us viewers.

For players that didn't join LIV they have already benefited from the new elevated events and increase in their owgr due to liv golfers dropping. If they are now given flexibility to play in more countries(their home countries for the non us players) as part of the liv series and stay on the pga i think is a great deal for many of them. Cam Smith looked like playing the LIV event in his home country was a huge deal to him.

Obviously, details will have to emerge on how the elevated events work with the LIV events.  That's too many events plus the majors to be mandatory.

Liv is at 14, plus 4 majors for 18 events(for those that can). Rahm, Speith and that tier tend to only play 21-24 events total in a year. so not as much difference as some in the media make it out to be.

But golfers getting more money i don't mind,  and all the golfers back playing together is just good for golf.
