  1. It is much easier to change your spin by 100's of rpm using different balls then different shafts. So much easier to tune for that. Finding a shaft that you constantly square up to the ball at impact is pretty important however. I'd find a shaft/club head that you hit square, then find the ball that gets you spin numbers you are looking for.
  2. For sure. my calculation for stopping power was purely total distance minus carry distance. I didn't really care if the stop came from spin, height or decent angle. All those definitely play their part in the stopping equation. So while I did show Spin, that was more just for my curiosity. I didn't use it for anything. I did have decent angle and peak height on my spreadsheet, but hide those columns before adding it here. They just added lots of numbers without much value. For my sheet, the Z-Star VX has the best stopping power, but below average spin. So without even looking at the table, I could pretty much guess that it had a steeper decent angle to get to that stopping distance, same for the Vice Pro. While the Chrome Soft X gets its juice off spin and a lower angle. Since I didn't care how it stopped, it didn't weight spin vs decent vs height at all. But if someone wanted the ball that stopped the fastest with the lowest peak height for example, the data is there to find it, so again, big props to Tony and Team.
  3. well, I played around with the driver numbers using the same set of balls. This time I focused on Carry as my most desired trait, I can't control the roll and sometimes there just isn't any in the PNW. That said, I looked at my new made up stat of bonus distance, because if the ball carried the furthest and rolled out the furthest, well that would just be triple stack pancakes. Then I colored stuff, brighter green for more better, brighter brown for more poopy. So, um, I think the Maxfli X is out of the running as it got a 3 poop rating. Then after that, I averaged my 8i list with my driver list, and poof! Vice Pro and Chrome Soft x come out on top with a 3 way tie for 3rd. Guess I'll try out some Chrome Soft X at some point. But my biggest takeaway, is that I'm basically Tiger Woods, I mean, B XS in my top 3?
  4. So I played around with some of the data, I'm a low spin player, low spin on my driver, low on my irons, low on my wedges. So I naturally filter the data for higher spin balls, and looked at their recommendations for the Higher Spin options in the mid swing speed. But I created a new column which wasn't included in the test, Stopping Power. Which is just total distance minus carry distance, basically how far the ball rolled out. So with a selection of balls I was interested in it turned out that the Z-Star XV actual stops the fastest, about 30% faster than an TP5x. And it was even below average on spin. The Wilson Staff and Chrome X also stopped noticeably below average, as they were the highest spinning two in the batch that was expected. But Vice Pro at 4th in stopping was surprising since it was so low on spin. Also, I didn't include this in the chart below, sorry, but average Spin for this group was 6163.4, average stop was 14.29. So now I am going to look at driver stats and wedge stats for this group, but the clubhouse leader after my specific iron data criteria is the Z-Star XV, with the Maxfli Tour X rounding out the top 5.
  5. Also, note that the maxfli has better carry, so depending on your course, it might be the further ball. But yes, basically the same
  6. so much data, so much data, so much data. I think that if you had a favorite ball you could find some reason to justify keeping it as your gamer(assuming it wasn't the inesis). Chrome Soft to ProV1 Left dash, and everything between. It looks like if you found a ball that you like, you probably aren't giving much up to play it. I don't think that was the case 2 years ago, so big props to the 2019 test for getting the industry to refocus on quality control. For me, I need a ball that has a little more spin on the driver and there are a number that fit that bill nicely as this test shows. But that ball I have been playing all year, Vice Pro, is right there in the mix. If I were going to try some others out, the Chrome Soft x seems to hit the marks I am looking for, and the Wilson Staff also looks good, but at about $20 more per dozen than the Vice... lots of good info, and it will take me a couple more spread sheets to make sure I am happy with my choice, but yeah, biggest take away is that they are all better than 2 years ago to the point where it wasn't worth including shot areas.
  7. Manual putting was bad for me for the first 2 rounds, then it was second nature and I almost never miss a location or putt. But those first 2 rounds were rough.
  8. Those irons . Are you actually going to hit them? I mean cobra straight wins with the copper look.
  9. Here is a good one for you as seen by my Mobil notifications
  10. I like this advice the best so far, etiquette is vastly more important and relevant for most rounds of golf. If you get paired up with a random at a course, they probably wont care if you move your ball/take a free drop or kick it here or there. But walk through their line on the putting green and WWIII could ensue.
  11. On gloves, they ask for differently for sure. If the ones you are using have a long thumb or short fingers, narrow palm, etc... Go to a golf store and try a bunch on until you find one that fits and stick with it. A few lessons starting out so that you don't build any really bad habits that could affect you down the road would be money well spent. Rules are, good to know, less important to follow when starting out. Go golf.
  12. Harbour point, now that is a course that can steal a golf ball. I lived right by Paine field at one point in life, played there a lot. Welcome to the boards.
  13. Welcome to the boards, I've played north Bellingham with @gavinski91the on occasion, I've lived in Mount Vernon the last 7 years, but as of Tuesday I'll be living in Spokane
  14. Yeah Yeah, going on week 2 of living out of a suitcase staying with family. August 3rd we will move in. Thanks for the b-day wishes everyone.
  15. Coming from the Canadian, way to uphold a stereotype. If only you finished your post with an apology.
  16. Seriously great read. I love me some history and golf history is some of the best. Granted, I'd probably read 20k words on the history of croutons if @GolfSpy Barbajo wrote it up, so you had me at hello.
  17. I'm looking at the app on android, I don't think it would matter if it is V2 or v3 as it is the same app.
  18. So I just opened to app to look at the options, and sure enough there are some new changes, you can select by year, last 15, 10, 5 or 1 rounds, and you can now have it only show active clubs (which is really a nice change). Your playing average will auto adjust to whatever limit you select.
  19. The tracking data does reset every calendar year, so there is that. But the data as a whole when switching clubs is a bit hard to use honestly. I've made a similar suggestion on their feedback site to allow you to define a "bag" and then let you see average yardages for that bag. Right now you can see average over last 5 rounds or 10 rounds, etc. But if you just switched clubs, the average are a blend of multiple sets.
  20. Birdie is good. Better than @GolfSpy MPR, his was a sad miss
  21. @GolfSpy_APH the recent streams on mobile is working, I'm now seeing the test in progress threads!
  22. This month has been a whirlwind for me, I've been packing / moving out of my old house, and now I'm the middle of a 3 week homeless stretch of staying with friends and family until I can move into my new house. That said, like @PMookiedo the vast majority of my forum viewing on mobile. And the site is getting incredibly slow and bordering unusable some days. So in the quest to make all things more better, please ask those developers to give the mobile product some love. Just in the middle of writing this an ad popped up that covered the part of the screen showing what I'm currently typing, I kept trying to scroll the screen to what I was typing, and it kept snapping back. I had to close the ad entirely to see my screen again. Please help.
  23. I'm still very skeptical. I'll even say extremely skeptical. I just don't know that there is enough metal to move around in a standard wedge to make much difference on spin or forgiveness. That said, I'm willing to admit that it seems mizuno and ping do have some tech that makes a real difference in the wet so there is that. After my wedge experience this spring I'll definitely agree that bounce /grind makes a huge difference. Read below. I don't know if it is the black finish, or the bounce /sole style on the Sub70 wedges, but I don't hit them fat. And that is why I like them so much. I had some Mac daddy's 2 years ago that I hit fat all the time, got a prior Gen sub 70 wedge last spring and hit it great right from the start. After a year or use and abuse the Sub70 needed replacement. I threw the Mac daddy's back in the back for 3 rounds, and instantly started chunking all wedge shots inside 100y. I tried the Kirkland wedges because that price can't be beat, chunked them for 3 rounds and returned them. Got this set of sub 70s since I had done well with previous one. These arrived and I was able to hit the ball again. I still think if I had any wedge brand with the same bounce and sole as these I would hit them just as well... But maybe not. For whatever reason these have proven to be the best wedges for my swing I've used. I can't say why, but they are. I really like the 2 different wedges, the JB definitely opens up easier for touch shots around the green. The 286 is good for full swings and anything less. Tl:DR - best wedges ever, don't buy anything else
  24. I can't comment on anything medical, but from another angle, try oversized grips and graphite shafts. They have helped my elbow and shoulder pain go away
