  1. I like Dean Snells idea in principle,  but can't think of a practical way to enforce it. If the rule became that a golf tee could only be 1 1/4 inch in length,  then the only tees used would be the ones that sit ontop of the ground.  But could you then stab the ground with your club to create a bump to put your tee on getting it even higher? Some players still create a grass tee on par 3s using that method.

Or if you tried to say that a ball can't be teed up higher than 1 inch above the tee box,  how the heck do you enforce that!? Laser measurement of every teed ball?  What would the penalty be for being .01 inches too high?

If you go to war on tee height,  i think you are better off just banning the use of all tees. But then you are going to war with club oems because drivers would need a complete redesign.  And that definitely doesn't make the game easier for the average golfer.

I don't love the mlr, but it basically is just lowering the allowed compression of a ball. Which is okay with me.  Balls already come in an almost 60 point range on compression.  If the new limit was like 80, that probably doesn't affect 99.9% of golfers.  They wouldn't lose distance. But it would reign in some of the big hitters.  They would still be the biggest,  but not by as much.

  2. It's just so hard to predict.  She is very good,  and has been very good.  But this shift to tour is a hard shift.  Skill wise she is a match for anyone,  so it really just comes down to how she handles the travel and deals with her first setback.

Matt Wolff was great right out of college. Winning one of his first starts.  But then had a hiccup and lost most of his game for 2 years.

Rose could come out and go full Lydia Ko or she could go straight to the Epson Tour after year 1. Neither would surprise me,  but i think she comes out closer to Ko's start than Gabby's start.

This is most likely the biggest culprit and absolutely the route I would have gone as well.  He knew he played lights out and it probably wasn't sustainable.  Why not take advantage and enjoy yourself a little?  I imagine his teaching schedule filled up pretty quick, too!

In not judging.  I know BK said he wasn't sure he was going to be able to hit the ball at the LIV event the week after the PGA because of how much he planned on celebrating. Can't blame either of them.

  4. Going through all the reviews,  here is a quick tl:dr for them to this point.

    1) it's a monster off the tee

    2) it's does seem to have less side spin and looks to have less left- right dispersion

    3) it is very durable

    4) the branding/ printing on the ball misses the mark

    5) it falls between the ProV1 left dash and CSX LS

    6) approach spin seems inconsistent on <80y shots

    7) it is one of the highest priced dtc offerings

    8] overall,  it's a really good ball.

Very entertaining review. I'm curious, what did you use to get your numbers? I'm guessing hitting into a screen? I'm looking to get into testing but I fell my biggest hurdle will be getting the stats. Thanks!

I use a GC3 and the Foresight software suite. Long winters here and need to get my golf fix in.

just bought a new driver. Also need some wedges and irons. What are the thoughts on Srixon

They are as good as anyone,  better than some for sure.  The zx5 and zx7 mkii versions are really good in their categories. Srixon is tied to Cleveland,  whose wedges are also about as good as anyones.

Which category of irons do you think you are looking to buy?

  7. I don't know how much variance is found from supplier to supplier of used golf balls.  MGS HQ did include Reloaded ProV1s in their 2021 ball test,   https://mygolfspy.com/buyers-guides/golf-balls/best-golf-balls-2021/

They didn't fair that great.  Compared to,  really any ball.  But they are still a golf ball that generally acts like a golf ball.

So if you like the price and the story, you are okay that they aren't as consistent and dont fly a far as new balls,  then they are good for you.

from a pure performance view,  they aren't the same as a new ball. But it would be really hard to say that playing them is costing you in strokes.

It was a great story, but let's be honest, he isn't some Make a Wish story. He has played in 30 PGA events and 5 majors. He isn't you average club pro. If not for having a family that he likely cares about, he would be on a tour of some level.

At 46, he is basically a make a wish story.  Like a 15 seed in the ncaa tournament making the final 4. It's almost Tin Cup.

His final round HIO is an epic story that will come up at every event for the rest of his life.

If he was 26, then this is different.  And he has played a number of tour events over the years,  but only a couple cuts made,  never in a Major.  Nothing close to what he pulled off last week. Looking at his pga tour profile;  25 events over 16 years, 5 made cuts.  This was his first made cut since 2015. And his previous best finish was t69. He is obviously better than most teaching pros,  but had never shown tour level talent.

Also,  no idea why having a family precludes him from playing on a tour.  lots of tour players have families.

Maybe you don't like an underdog story?

Do you think it flies lower just because of lower spin or does it launch lower as well. From the videos looks like it might be a slightly lower flight on the irons as well. Do you think it is?

When mgs did their last huge golf ball test they find that the launch angle on every ball was about the same,  with minimal differences between them.  Tony even talked about it and that trajectory was what was noticeable.

So to answer your question,  i don't think it launches lower,  my LM numbers say that it is about the same as anything else.  But,  it's trajectory with driver is much lower than most.

Melting temperature was never a factor I considered in my testing 😆

The heat is real in central Florida.

I was 2 holes from taking a photo of the X2, it had survived 52 holes of golf and was looking great.  Then on hole 53 i decided to give it a swim test....

I'm not a high spin player,  my Wedges aren't ripping covers off balls,  and through 52 holes this ball held up as good as anything I've seen.

  11. I'm doing testing this week at the Reunion resort in Orlando.  The X2 has proven more consistent than my carts so far, went through 3 of them in 1 round today.

As for the ball holding up in humidity,  it handled it much better then i did.  I didn't notice any perspiration on it,  no sun burn and no inflamation. It must have overheated on the 16th hole as it jumped into a pond to cool down.

But,  it still rolled,  bounced,  and flew like a premium golf ball.

  12. I guess the thing that hasn't really been mentioned or discussed here in much detail is swing weight. A heavier shaft tends will increase the overall weight of a club,  but tends to decrease the swing weight.  Just like a lighter graphite shaft lowers the overall weight of the club it also increases the swing weight.

It might be good to figure out your swing weight of your 4i that you hit well and try to get your 2i to the same if it isn't.

Both swing weight and total club weight affect your swing speed.  You could in theory build a driver with total weight twice a normal driver but with a lower swing weight,  think sledge hammer but holding it upside down.

A lighter shaft but with a heavier grip or some lead tape right under the grip could balance out the changes.

So much plays into this. for me,  finding the right flex profile is more important than weight or stiffness.  Fujikura motore = good results,  ventus = bad results.  And there is lots of tour data to say that the ventus is one of the best shafts out there.

My recommendation is get a pga tour fitting van delivered to your driveway with a few hours to play around.  that and,  you know,  give up on the 2i. That club isn't even played on tour anymore.  🤣

  13. I mean... Augusta and Cypress are pretty hard to beat,  but I'll put a public course at the top of my bucket list,  St. Andrews.

Edit, i suck. And missed the "local" aspect of the OP. So let me pretend that i didn't say what i said.

Local course,  would be Sahalee. It's only local as in its in the same state,  i went in... 97? For the pga championship,  it's beautiful tree lined hell that would no doubt kick my teeth in.  But i want a peeve of it.  The lpga is back there next year,  so I'll go see it again and dream.
