Doing some tinkering, I ended up with a NS Pro Neo 950GH regular 8-iron shaft installed in a Srixon Z585 7-iron. Since the raw length of the Neo isn't that long (8 iron shaft is 36") it was just right to build the 7-iron to standard length. I absolutely love the setup/feel/results. So, here's my question. This single hard step is easy to do again for the other irons, but a some point with the wedges and possibly the 9, I won't have the next shaft down to do the hard step with. For any of you that have done this, do you usually just go with a different flex for those? In my case, most of the irons would be one hard step with regular flex, but wedges maybe just with stiff flex? I hope my description makes sense. Plus, any thoughts or personal experience with regular flex hard stepping versus stiff flex soft stepping? Thanks for any input.

I heard back from Ping. The SS Anser 2 head weighs 306g and the MB Anser 3 head weighs 341g. Good to know.., hope this helps someone else too.

Does anyone know the weight of the original Anser 2 in SS vs. the weight of the Anser 3 in manganese bronze? If I remember correctly, the bronze was heavier.., just trying to figure out how much. Thanks!

Ok, so now I'm thinking since I already have the club and it's a toss up on the shaft, what will it hurt to shorten it and see what happens. My experience with the Jr clubs he's had so far is that the irons seem to be ok, but the woods are absolutely awful. He currently has Jr drivers from Tour Edge and Cobra. Both seem dead and the metal they're made of dents far too easier than any other club I've ever seen (and that's with normal use, not hitting rocks, etc). I'm not sure if we're ready for the $230 Ping Prodi G jr driver, but thought the Ping I already had might be better. I also recall another post here where someone mention same issue with the Cobra jr driver, and the results switching to something else.., can't seem to find it now. Thanks for the help.

I'm wanting to re-shaft a Ping G10 driver I have for my 11 year old son to use. All of his other clubs are listed as "Jr Flex" and I'm wondering if that plays closer to a ladies or senior flex? Also, I don't really know how much cutting the shaft down from the butt end will alter flex. For example, the G10 currently has the Ping TFC129 in "soft regular" (which I think was the equivalent to senior flex) and my first thought was just to cut required length from butt and leave it at that. I at least hoped for better than what I had to do as a kid which was choke down with almost both hands on the steel of a regular length club Thanks! Jon

I believe the fitter meant the F3 Recoils played firmer compared to other manufacturer's "regular" flex in graphite. In this case, it doesn't matter as I liked the feel of the F3..., just wondered if anyone had the experience of the 760's vs 780's. The 760 did feel significantly lighter than the NS Pro I'm playing now, and it should as it's about 19 to 20g lighter.

I'm currently playing Srixon z585's in steel with NS Pro 880 stiff that have been soft-stepped once. Yesterday, I hit the z585's with the newer (SmacWrap) version of the Recoil ES 760. I hit the F3 (regular) flex, and never played graphite in my irons before, I was surprised at the feel. I was expecting something very floppy, but the feel was good and flex seemed to match the stiff, one soft-step, Nippons I currently have. The Srixon fitter said the Recoil graphite tended to play a little firmer. Has anyone else experienced that too? I also see that the 780 is available with the same specs, only heavier. Does anyone have any experience playing between the 760 and 780? Interestingly, on Srixon's site, when you choose the custom option in F3 (regular) flex, only the 760 is listed. And if you choose F4 (stiff) only the 780 is listed. Even though the 760 and 780 are both made in F3 and F4. The demo cart did not have the 780 in F3, so I'm wondering if I should at least try it, or if I'm overthinking it (which is easy to happen with all the data available now). Hopefully somebody has some more first-hand experience between the two. Thanks in advance.

I picked up a set of Mizuno JPX 900 Hot Metal with Project X LZ 6.0 shafts. At the time, I was playing another set of JPX 900 Hot Metal with NS Pro 950 in stiff. Between those two, the Project X LZ 6.0 definitely felt more "boardy" as compared to the Ns Pro 950 stiff. The ball flight was lower with the Project X as well. I probably would need a 5.5 in the Project X LZ (to make them feel comparable to the NS Pro 950 stiff). I ended up taking out the shafts and selling them on ebay, and gave the heads to my dad to tinker with.

I have several sets of Nippon NS Pro 950 shaft pulls. They are all taper tip, and have all been butt trimmed. Does anyone know of a chart, or list of measurements from the tip of the shaft to the first step/taper so I can determine which shaft is which?

So, I've always heard that your fairway shafts should be heavier than your driver shaft. I'm curious if this is generally a rule or if anyone out there has essentially the same shaft in their 3 wood that they have in their driver. I was recently fitted in the Cobra F9 Driver with the EvenFlow blue 65g 5.5 shaft. I was not fitted for a 3 wood. I love the driver so much, I now want the 3 wood. The EvenFlow Blue 5.5 is available for the Cobra fairways in both 65g and 75g. So is it reasonable to expect I should be in the 75g since I'm in 65g with the driver? Thanks for any insight.

No joke. I went back for my follow-up fitting and didn't see this reply until today. I was originally "quickly" fitted with Hzrdus Smoke 60g 6.0 and I was happy with it. Carry was usually 210-215 and total would end up around 230-235. At the follow-up fitting I ended up with the EvenFlow 65g 5.5 and OMG if I didn't experience it personally I would be skeptical if I were reading someone describing this. My carry went up to 230-235 and the ball really rolls out too so total is now consistently in the 255-265 range. I didn't believe those type of gains were possible. It is a very smooth feeling shaft. During the fitting it felt like I had to adjust my tempo as compared to the Hzrdus Smoke, I even commented to the fitter that it felt like I was swinging slower. To my surprise, he told me my swing speed had actually increased with the EvenFlow. So I'll repeat what so many others have said here, get fitted, and what's a fit for your buddy doesn't mean will be the fit for you.

I've got to finish my fitting with the Cobra rep one day this week. Based on the specs the Atmos is a little heavier and has less torque. I've usually played stiff but with 93-95mph SS, the fitter wanted me to try regular. I just don't like that "whippy" feeling of a regular flex.

Thanks. My 7 iron SS is usually 73-75 mph, so I'm thinking I would be better with the LZ 5.0.

I’ve heard and read so many different explanations about Project X flexes and what they equate to. So, in a Project X LZ steel shaft, is 5.5 regular flex or stiff flex? There is also a 5.0 flex, so I’m not sure if that’s regular. I believe they may have a “in-between” flex, so that might be 5.5? Anyway, maybe someone can enlighten me. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with differences between the Atmos TS Blue vs the Aldila NV 2KXV? I'm kinda on the fence between the two. F9 10.5 with SS of 93mph..., I'm looking at R flex, thanks!

If anyone else has hit or been fitted for Ping's G410's, I'm wondering which shaft you ended up selecting. I like the feel of the AWT 2 stiff, but numbers are slightly better for AWT 2 regular..., but man does that regular feel super whippy. I don't like it at all. Fitter suggested the middle ground might be the DG 105, but that shaft was being used by another fitter. I've got to go back to try it. Has anyone every hit the DG105? Ping's website says it's Mid-High launch shaft at 97g, while True Temper's site says it's Mid-Low and 103g. Not sure of the discrepancy there. Anyway, it's all speculation until I can try it. My 7 iron SS is in the 71-74 mph range. I want a lighter shaft, but regular flex always feels so flimsy to me, so maybe the DG 105 might be the answer? Thanks for any input. Jon

I previously posted this on the thread about best and worst advice. In HS I took a lesson for some reason from one of the "volunteer" coaches. The lesson had nothing to do with building upon or correcting things in my swing. It was all about changing my swing entirely to the Jimmy Ballard "connected" method. Excellent points. On second inspection, I'm beginning to wonder if this isn't a 3 wood shaft. The shaft measures 43 3/4" at the butt end of the grip. Are the shafts interchangeable between the 917D2 and the 917F2? Either way, the shop is looking for the proper 45" standard length shaft for me. Hopefully they can swap it out as the clubhead appears to have only been hit once or twice.

So after a fitting with Titleist, I am looking for a 917D2 with shaft length of 45". The shop at my club has a like new 917D2, but the shaft is -1" at 44". So two questions, first can that difference be significant? And second, are there really any noticeable differences with shafts that have been extended (with some sort of plug in the butt end) vs those of the same length not extended? In this case a shaft at 45" vs a 44" shaft with a 1" extension to get it to 45" Thanks!
