  1. Just to add to my previous post, when I try to correct a problem and look at Youtube instruction, what I always do is turn on the camera and depending on what I correct a launch monitor. I use the camera to see if I'm actually doing what the Youtuber is trying to teach. Most times without the visual feedback of a camera , I THINK I am making a correction , but the video shows otherwise. I might try an explanation from another Youtuber to see if his explanation is easier to follow. The key is to properly practice to apply the changes. Don't hesitate to rotate you're Tube coaches as I've found out even the best can't explain a proper change in EVERY situation. You can't watch a Youtube and bring that directly to the course. That's what the range is for. Pete
  2. Youtube is a resounding plus for me. Anytime I need a fix I may go through 4-5 different Youtubers to find the one that explains it exactly the way I need to hear. The explanation that makes sense to me at the time. It doesn't matter if you normally follow ANY of the major onliine coaches. Getting a different perspective and a situation you're trying to correct is much better than a single source. So Youtube with it's countless online coaches provides that. As an example if I may look at a top coach for chipping and correct 80% then look at 2-3 others and get the other 20% . Each golf coach has their specialty or strong point. Youtube allows me to have access at a click of a mouse to all the best instructors out there. Pete P.S. In the end it comes down to practice, practice, practise.
  3. Can't say he's my favorite but Came upon this guy Porzac golf and was impressed by the way he explained and corrected shallowing the club. I might be inclined to watch more of these video's by him. This is first and only I've seen but will check him out more.If his other video's are as informative he might be one of my favorites. Pete
  4. My main video source is Danny Maude for swing issues. Each lesson is broken down and well explained in 2-3 steps with drills to help are put in the description. I may flip around to get a different take of a problem I'm trying to correct , but Danny usually makes enough sense to help me the most, He shows what mistakes we commonly make and why , then proceeds to show how to correct them. Pete
  5. 2009 Jumeirah Golf Estates(Fire course) in Dubai, while visiting my daughter. $140 and worth it as the course was in great shape and I played beautifully. I shot 80. I went back 2-3 days later and my son-in-law struck a deal with the pro for a lesson and a round for $125 on the Jumeirah Golf Estates (Earth Course). After being twisted and contorted by the pro I ended up with shooting over 100. I tried to forget what he tried on me , but couldn't et back in a groove. Went back in 2012 and this time played the Emirates Golf Club (Faldo Course) at night and didn't lose many balls even in the rough.. Was quite the experience that had the backdrop of skyscrapers on several holes. For a non alcoholic country the 2 six packs an special at the turn was quite nice. Score started to bottom out then but the experience was fantastic. But seems to me the night round was $100 even! Plus only $18 for each six pack. Pete
  6. For me there are several parameters involved to choose a surface I'll practice on. 99% of public driving ranges don't maintain the practice surface so grass is sparse. The better practice ranges are the higher end golf clubs that are usually private and they usually take good care of their practice facilities. Most driving ranges that use mats have the cheap kind where the ball ends up an inch lower due to the wear on the mat. The range I go to installed high quality mats over 10 years ago and they have the same feel now as when they were first installed. No dips where the clubs hit the mat. Those mats aren't cheap to buy $500-$1200 range. So most driving ranges go for the cheap mats. If I go to some other course or range and see they have these mats then I would most likely use them over their poor excuse for grass. With the high end mats, I like the consistency on every shot. Plus I don't have to search around every time I hit a ball for enough blades of grass to put a ball on! I should also mention that the landing area I practice at is a lake with targets which makes it great to see your distance, so if you hit a fat shot the feel and distance will be off. Pete
  7. I used the older Arrcos system for a few years , then when the batteries started dying and since I was fed up with missed shots and the phone in my pocket, I bought the Shotscope V2 on clearance sale. Turns out it rarely missed a shot. I then upgraded to the V3 ( they made an offer hard to refuse) . Shotscope is a much simpler and efficient system. Gives me all the metrics I need. A big plus is no subscription needed. Pete
  8. My goto guy is Danny Maude. He explains every part of the game with easy to understand examples and has drills to follow up each lesson. But I still flip around to see what others have to say. Rick Shields, Shawn Clement , Paul Wilson. But it's Danny Maude that has helped me the most! Pete
  9. For me its not about getting out there and playing 5 times a week in a mediocre fashion. So I go play twice a week and practice for the other three. I enjoy practising not as much as actually playing , but the 2 times I do go play are much more satisfying. I'm not in any one place to be a member , so I play where I can and usually play with the weekend type golfer who curses every second shot. I've been through that and practice has me to where I REALLY appreciate the work I put in. The other thing many weekend golfers go out and buy the latest equipment thinking they'll play better golf , but you need to be fitted and the only way to get fitted properly is to have a consistent swing, so they would be way better off getting lessons. So it all boils down to , I like to play but play well. Pete I really wish they hadn't canned the amateur tour. Thanks to [ractice, I'm almost to a point of a club change. First a driver fitting then irons.
  10. I'll have to make allowances in the budget for Balls this year since my wife retired! Her boss was good friends with the Titlist rep and I'm down to my last 4 dozen ProV1's. I keep trying to insist on keeping good relations with her ex co-workers. They often had leftover monogrammed balls from events left over! Pete
  11. I live on a slope so had a cement retaining wall in the back yard from the previous owner that was starting to lean. So I had a guy come in with heavy equipment to take it out.He warned me about possible damage to the foundation but I had no choice as the wall was too dangerous. Sure enough in the spring I had to places where I had hairline cracks with water coming in. I had no accumulation because it all went out the floor drain but everything on the floor was doused! I called a contractor but he said he couldn't fix it from the inside as the cracks were too small for an epoxy fix. I decided to give it a try as I had nothing to lose. I waited till spring thaw stopped and dried out the wall completely then put a heater on the part I was going to fix just so it soaks up the concoction I was about to apply a bit better. The concoction was Portland cement with a latex binder but very very thin. I apply it to the crack then quickly add more cement about a teaspoon ,apply it again and repeat till the last coat was like toothpaste! My back yard drains the neighbours above me, so plenty of water passes by my foundation! That repair was in 1988. Still bone dry! So the old saying " Anytime you want things done right , do it yourself" Pete
  12. Here in Quebec City , weather for the next several days is looking real good. Golf courses here are set to open following Covid guidelines on May 20, OK that and the fact that the snow finally melted last week! LOL They are announcing 68 on Wednesday and uo to 77 for Friday! ( Whew a scorcher!) Pete
  13. I have the Arcos system and it skips many shots. We are supposed to put the phone in our pocket but I have it on my belt , but I cut out a piece where the mic is! The problem is too often I put the phone back in the case with the mic on the wrong side! Which reminds me , I'll have to run diagnostics on them before the season starts next week! But in Arcos favor is they they know my game missed shots and email me without me asking to offer possible solutions! So the support is good! Pete
  14. LMAO ,trying to improve my social skills, I noticed this thread and thought I had a good joke to tell, well this is the exact same joke! I'll read some more before I post another duplicate! Pete
  15. Just have to carry a new piece of equipment in the bag though! They won't be putting the rakes for the traps out! So I found a little 4ft rake! Perfect! Pete
  16. Golf courses finally set to open on May 20 here in QUebec City, They finally realized the the best place for social distancing was on a golf course! Especially since the leave the flag in rule! Pete
  17. Personally I do biking for exercise! I've decided to make my own personal golf transporter. It should be ready in about 6 weeks. (parts delivery is slow these days! I'll post the result back here! Might even take orders along with my very own golf spy review! Lol . Pete
  18. I also found this company that offers several models and start around $2650 (CAN) , what I like is the fact your can just put it in the trunk of your car! Weight seems to be around 100-120 lbs but I'm guessing you can remove the golf bag attachment and pillar! Pete
  19. Has anyone tried this. They have the ones that look like skateboards but this is more practical as I think the lighter weight would allow picking it up and putting it in your vehicle! They are cheaper as well as this goes for around $3500 (canadian). Pete Thanks Pete
