  1. Cold weather gloves are always a challenge. Its as if the laws of nature require a trade off between warmth and grip. My go to has always been the old FootJoy WinterSof black knits. I see FootJoy has something new this year - a combination of fleece and leather on the palm - https://www.footjoy.com/men/golf-gloves/stasof-winter-pair/000SSW.html?dwvar_000SSW_color=66801E#start=1 Has anyone given these a try? Anyone find the holy grail of warmth and tackiness?
  2. Today starts the annual 24 hours of soaking and salting our turkey. I’ve tried multiple brines over the years, citrus, bacon, etc… but with my brothers family coming over this year I’ve returned to my old favorite - the maple syrup turkey brine. What’s yours? Maple a syrup brine recipe below: 6 bay leaves 3 tbps peppercorns 2 cups kosher salt 16oz pure maple syrup 1 head of garlic 2 gallons of water Bring to a boil then let cool Wash turkey and remove insides. Submerge overnight.
  3. 1 - get the driver speed up to 105mph 2 - improve strike/center of the club face w said driver 3 - lower my Strokes Gained Approach to -2 4 - lower handicap to 5
  4. Silent Running Logans Run But seriously people -- if you can find Primer you won't regret it.
  5. Primer - off the beaten path independent time travel movie - its a mind bender, definitely worth the watch
  6. The forum is full of practice set ups - not sure how or where your search key words take you. Id put my name to supporting a TrueStrike mat, and Sporina net. Budget friendly vs quality is always the trick.
  7. I wish I could do those but I had my hip replaced a year ago. On the Doctors “do not do” list - no running, no jumping and a couple of restricted yoga poses. Nothing that causes additional pounding on the hip socket. I understand why the explosive nature of those jumps is beneficial but I gotta make this joint last. So I have to find other reasonable alternatives.
  8. I’ve been at this since February and finally hit my goal for the year - progress check this weekend was 100 mph. Can’t wait to see what I can do by the time the snow melts in the spring. Lots and lots of days with seemingly no progress. I know I have some swing faults that rob me of speed. But progress is progress. the one thing I’m going to do different over the winter is incorporate some light weight circuit into my regular exercise routine. Elliptical machine and yoga have been my healthy habits but time for a little more to fight off Father Time.
  9. Try the BirdieBall PuttUp - forum review here. It is the best of both worlds - more distance in less space. I’m unrolling mine now for its fourth winter season. I noticed it’s no longer on their web site. If it’s of interest drop them an email and ask about it - you never know if there may be one sitting in the warehouse even if they discontinued the product. BB has fantastic customer service.
  10. 18 and Old Town may be the most underrated. Turnberry least appreciated.
  11. One other challenge to playing in the cold is just gripping the club. I’ve got some FJ cold weather gloves - but they aren’t very tacky and I feel like the club wants to slip in my fingers. Would really like to find a thin, tacky, warm glove. (Yes, I want it all). Had to do a stack speed session outside today in 34* and I ditched the FJ gloves after a couple swings as I thought I was going to toss the stick across the yard
  12. Great question - I too am always looking for an answer. I don't think you can beat it - but maybe compensate for it. No matter what, you are taking an extra club at least... I think it starts with a good dynamic warm up inside before you go - get the blood flowing. I really like Sasho's warm up for the Stack system and do an abbreviated version before playing. I think its also about being smart about what/how many layers you wear. Again you are fighting the cold - being stiff and lacking mobility - as much as your golf ball is. Have some compression pants or a shirt so its not bulky but flexible and designed to help you generate your own heat. I've got one of those electronic hand warmers and I keep a couple balls in it and swap them out on the green, and then the next tee. Only so much you can do there. Other ideas?
  13. I have a winter putting practice routine - but I make myself stand up and take a step away after every single putt, then retake my stance and hit the next. Half my challenge is correct posture and ball position - this ensures I’m just as focused on that as I am on the stroke. And it’s good for my back.
  14. And that may be the end of backyard practice for 2023… Got home from a work trip Friday night to discover the temperature was falling into the twenties, so before I even unpacked I got the gel/TrueStrike pad out and took it inside so it won’t freeze. There may yet be a few days where I can put it back and hit some balls. After the white stuff melts I’ll cover it with a tarp, bit that’ll be closer to Thanksgiving as once the tarp goes on it stays on until spring .
  15. My final thoughts and review are up on the main testing post here
  16. Had the jacket on course again today - no rain - but trying to see if I can reduce the "puffiness" of the jacket by tightening the draw strings or something. Not much luck. Couple shots with the putter while on the green to try and better show what I'm dealing with. In my stance, bend at the waist. Big difference between the rain jacket and just wearing a hoodie. Tried to get two shots of each the same. Again, I ordered a medium because everything I have is a medium. But I'm wishing I would have gotten a small to see if that would have eliminated that. Trying to decide how much weight that carries on the final review.
  17. Yes, but until now I haven't needed to wash every time I've worn them. All my pants were pull overs. So they'd get washed just a few times a season. I guess time will tell.
  18. For washing all my waterproofs I use Grangers - here in the states Grangers can be found on Amazon -
  19. Planned off season putting practice : BirdieBall mat to groove the stroke (something I did and improved upon last winter) and standing on an AimPoint slope board to improve me feel so I know where to aim that grooved stroke. I feel aimpoint has helped me this year, but I can get better at correctly feeling that slope.
  20. New addition. Added a back up net to catch those hosel adjacent shots, or some wild ones that may want to shoot past the Sporina and crack the fence, pin ball around under the pool deck, or fly over the neighbors yard. Yes, I’ve managed to do all of those. Put a couple of ten foot 2x4s up to attach it to, and then the deck, using a three heavy duty caribiner clips. Got the netting from Nets of America. Heavy duty. Impressed w what they delivered. I leave it attached on the top of the center pole, and then just pool onto the ground behind the Sporina when not in use. Takes all of a minute to attaché the other points when time to set up or take down.
  21. Because I sometime hit hosel adjacenct as I’ve documented before I setup some netting behind and to the right of my Sporina net - Got it here https://netsofamerica.com/product/golf-backstop-netting/ you could use as your side walls but agree w the above you want a target sheet to absorb the main impact
  22. Yes, it is very heavy. It won’t go anywhere. (Sorry I missed this, was out of country at the time)
  23. It was a four layer kind of morning. The GB rain jacket was on and off, on and off. For me, this jacket is so light it doesn’t do much for warmth. Great for summer but not warm enough at 48*. An upside to being so light weight is that it easily packs and fits in the side pocket of my bag. Not the big one but the small one. I wish GalwayBay made a waterproof beanie - something to keep my head and ears both warm and dry. Any chance?
