  1. I have always liked the small mallet style putters. I first saw the PING DARBYi in 1999 and fell in love with it. I bought it straight away. It's had six regrips and is on its second shaft after rusting through, but its staying in my bag - this little beauty is just a putting beast on the greens!
  2. Hannah Green - LPGA SuperStar, Aussie girl and a genuinely nice human being!
  3. No music out loud, thanx - If you want it, use earbuds!
  4. To misquote the great philosopher, René Descartes: "I golf, therefore I walk"! Walking helps my fitness & wellbeing, my mental health, keeps my golf costs down, as well as keeping my golf scores down! I simply score better with a nice walk - looking at the lie of the land & green as well as the upcoming shot as I walk to my ball. I calm down better after a poor shot, and that walk helps me psyche up for the next shot.
  5. I like to mix it up! Sometimes the Tigers, other times the 'regular mens' tees and then also the 'short mens' tees. More places = more fun. Our club runs competitions most days and they do vary the competition tee of the day as well. On the Monthly Medal days, they even run two comps - the "Medal' from the tips, and a Stableford from the 'short mens' tees - and you get to choose your comp.... How good is that???
  6. Jack *18 majors with 3 sets of the Grand Slam. *19 r/ups *All 4 senior majors within his first two senior seasons *Outstanding golf design for over 200 courses *Exemplary personal life and my golfing hero!
  7. I think it's a matter of working out the most lofted wedge you want in your bag, then take the loft of your iron set Pitching Wedge and then fill the gaps evenly at 4*-6* spacings. In my Hogan TK-15's, I had wedges at 48*, 53*, 58* and 63* which was great for someone who loves loft! My 'second' set of Mizuno MP-18 MMC and T-20s had wedges at 46* (set wedge), 50*, 56* and 62* which I was happy with as well. Just as long as your set doesn't have a PW loft of 37*! That's no typo - Thirty-seven degrees.... Thank You, Yonex! Hahahahaha!
  8. Not many spectators.... I thought this was an important event! Was the LACC trying to keep the riff-raff out???
  9. At the moment, four wedges: The wedge from my Mizuno set MP-18 MMC at 46*; Mizuno T-22 wedges at 50*; 56*, and 62* Full swing distances with them are 110, 100, 85 and 70 yards. - works out well and they are just magic for flops, chipping, pitching and the sand
  10. You know what they say.... "Happy wife = Happy life" !!!
  11. Just wondering.... Rather than Mrs. Chunks, your better half should be "The Good Lady Chunksalot", shouldn't she???
  12. I haven't made a switch for a while now.... My Ping Darby has been in the bag since about 2000 [except when it's getting a new grip]. Beautiful putter - my baby - Pity I'm not as reliable!
  13. My MGI Navigator has the same - an axle position for the wheel to rotate freely, if the battery fails for whatever reason. Another thing I found was that bug repellant spray can be sprayed onto the axle, if pushing is difficult or squeaky - it makes a good emergency lubricant!
  14. I am a confirmed walker. I have a good set-up, with a battery-powered, remote controlled MGI ZIP Navigator that gets me around easily - even 36 holes between charges. I find walking helps keep me fit, and also gives me good "thinking time" as I walk to my next shot. Cheaper than a cart, but I'd walk rather than ride any day!
  15. Yes, I too have been playing with the Australian Vets, which is run well with a region or town hosting events during most weeks. Organised on a state-by-state basis for both men and women, there are usually competition rounds on the Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Fridays, with a two or three round overall tournament plus a lovely get-together dinner on the Thursday evening, or an extravagant lunch after the Friday round. There is often a group of caravan couples touring as they travel, following the trail from one tournament to the next. It's fantastic for us retirees, and a great way for my wife and me to see country Australia while getting in some golf! In fact, my profile pic shows me with the Neville Reid Memorial Trophy for winning the overall event at Tocumwal, NSW a few years ago - that was a week to remember!
  16. I'm still supporting the team that first grabbed my attention when I started watching the NFL way back, when they had this exciting new quarterback from Notre Dame! Joe Montana helped us win four Superbowls, and I'm still following the San Francisco 49ers today - as we surge toward our sixth win at the Big Dance! GO NINERS!
  17. I just want to change that Xmas song to: On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love golfed with me: Twelve greens in regulation, eleven good bounces, ten fairways found! Nine straight drives, eight big putts dropping Seven wedges spinning, six putts breaking, And five new Pings! "Fore!" calling golfers, three sand saves, two chip-ins And a par after that drive hit a pear tree!
  18. Ben Hogan Apex Redlines from 1988. I have a set - 1-iron right through to E-wedge - with new Golf Pride Tour Wrap 2G grips and the original Hogan steel 4 "stiff " shafts. Magic clubs!
  19. Just the three, but that Ping is NEVER leaving my bag! Callaway: Epic Flash Driver, 3-wood [1.5 Mini] Mizuno: MP Titanium 5-wood, 3-iron Hi-Fli, 5-PW MP-18 MMC, Wedges T-7 52*, 56*, 60* {sometimes 52*+58*+64*] Ping: putter Darby (for 25 years)
  20. I'm a higher marker than you, so I wouldn't presume to give you advice, except to say that when I have tried to fix a problem myself, and failed, I book a lesson or two with a reliable teaching pro. Good luck!
  21. I had a teammate in Junior Rep golf who used an old bullseye putter so that he could putt left- or right-handed with it. He reckoned that it was easier to hole putts that broke towards his feet rather than putts sliding away, particularly short-range putts. So on putts breaking to the left, he putted right-handed - on putts breaking right, he putted left-handed. He did well enough to turn pro, had some minor tour success and now is head pro at a leading Australian golf course!
  22. I have two regular gaming sets, plus multiple other iron sets plus persimmon woods and all sorts of wedges. "A mad golf club collector" as my wife puts it! For both of my gamer sets, I know the lofts, lengths, swing weights and distances of each club. As one poster said, this helps me move between sets, and also with hired sets when travelling, so I know roughly how far club each is going to go - because that's the single most important thing.... How far will I hit this club?
  23. I'm hearing you! My longest iron is 5-iron nowadays.
