  1. Played the GolfJet Jet 4 (4-piece urethane) this summer. Mainly decided to try them because they were $19.95 a dozen, they must have been on sale because the price has since gone up. Played my best three games ever with them, though I had also been working a lot on my swing so I'm sure that contributed too. When I put a good swing on it they flew high and straight and seemed to have good green stopping power, and nice soft feel off wedges and putter. I have some Snell's and Z-Stars to try out when the GolfJet supply runs out.
  2. Just picked up a 43" Odyssey Metal X DART putter to experiment with the arm-lock putting style.
  3. The 270 Classic was basically my first driver. The old Callaway that came with my used set I got off eBay when I started playing broke before I even got to use it in a round. Picked up the Cleveland Classic and it did great for me my first two years before I succumbed to the lure of the Cobra this year. I really need to put the two head-to-head and see if that expensive new driver is even doing me any good. I love the 270 though. A simple, classy design and easy to hit.
  4. Totally agree on the Tour 360's. I have a pair of the blacked out 2.0's and I love them for walking. Great fit, very comfortable and good traction. Looking forward to seeing how they work out this winter in cold potential damp conditions.
  5. That is just beautiful! We don't get trees like that in central Oklahoma. Just skimmed through this whole thread and I gotta say, I am so jealous of Kirke's swing right now. He really looks like he knows his stuff. I'm just waiting for my brother to make me an Uncle then I'll have a little guy, or girl, to teach. Maybe by then I'll know what I'm doing.
  6. I also have a really hard time with the "playing happy" thing when things aren't going well. At that point I just try to enjoy the weather and the company, but it definitely is hard when most of my shots don't do what they are supposed to.
  7. After my best ball striking ever last week, yesterday's scramble was just about the opposite. Got off to a hot start with a great drive and approach shot, but everything after that was a story of wild inconsistency. Hit a couple more solid drives and a couple nice pitch shots, but lots of topped balls and shots that either didn't go anywhere or didn't go where they were supposed to. Our last scramble of the summer will be next Thursday so hopefully will have a bit better luck. Until then, practice, practice, practice.
  8. $80 bucks for shorts!? I think I got my Izods for $21.99. I liked them so much I bought five different colors. Shirts and pants would be either Izod and/or Adidas. I am Adidas all the way on shoes and hats are a toss up, though I really like the Travis Mathew hats I just got from RBG during their bogo sale. I don't worry about socks. I just wear the same crew socks I get in bags from Wal Mart.
  9. Hey Shankster, just wanted to say thanks for starting this thread. I had no idea about Moe Norman or the single plane swing before, and now for the first time since I started playing in 2017, I am starting to develop some consistency in my swing and hitting it straight. I just had my best ball striking game yet, and I love practicing now because it actually feels like I'm accomplishing something.
  10. This past Thursday's 9-hole co-worker scramble ended up being the best ball striking of my young golfing life. After constantly struggling for consistency with the traditional two-plane swing, the Moe Norman approach seems to be working for me, at least as much of it as I have been able to figure out so far. I had back to back 200+ yard drives that went dead straight middle of the fairway, was shooting lasers from the fairway with my 7 wood that were coming up just a few yards short of the green, and hit some nice chip and pitch shots. Unfortunately putting wasn't that great. Where normally I only have 1 or two playable shots per round, I had several this time. Keep in mind all the people I play with have been playing far longer, some all their lives, and are much better players. After nearly three seasons playing in these scrambles it's a great feeling to finally be able to contribute consistently to the team.
  11. Had my first range session experimenting with the single plane swing. It was kind of hit or miss, lots of work to do to get it to become habit, but when I hit it right the ball went high and straight. Also hit 3 or 4 of my longest, straightest drives yet. A lot of inconsistency to start with, but some very well hit shots gives me hope for this swing change. Gotta watch some more videos and work on drills now. 12. Good old fashion, all natural spring water. Full of healthy minerals without the sugar, chemicals or toxins. Sent from my ZTE A2017U using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  13. Had a great game with my new Impact 3 in last Thursday's scramble. Made five putts, two for my teams only birdies, one from at least 20 feet. Just missed a couple of other birdie putts, one stopping just a couple of inches short of the hole and another long one that broke left right at the hole. I had been playing milled blade putters because I liked the sleeker look of a blade, but lacked control in my stroke. The TA3 seems to have fixed that. So far, loving this putter. If this keeps up I might have to give it the MGS headcover treatment. Sent from my ZTE A2017U using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  14. That's some impressive dispersion. Four easy birdie putts there. [emoji3] Sent from my ZTE A2017U using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  15. If you still want to get the new Z Stars I recommend the performance packs from golfdiscount.com. Only 9.99 for two sleeves. Basically $20 a dozen. https://www.golfdiscount.com/srixon-z-star-6-performance-pack-golf-balls-6-balls Sent from my ZTE A2017U using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  16. I spent the last hour hitting balls into my net trying to incorporate single plane techniques into my swing. I think the single plane thing may work for me, but obviously it is going to take a lot of work to get it down. Need to get to the range and see what my actual ball flight looks like. It surely can't be any worse than hooking and slicing everything. Sent from my ZTE A2017U using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  17. My first two summers playing I gamed an old Teardrop TD47 putter. I upgraded to the Impact 3 this year because I needed to get more control of my putting stroke, which has worked, but I still love the Teardrop as it is the putter I broke into the game with. Anyone have an idea when it came out? I'm assuming somewhere in the 90's. Sent from my ZTE A2017U using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  18. Not opposed to eBay at all. That's where I have gotten most of my golf gear. That's a solid price, thanks! I'll have to add those to my list of urethane balls to test. Sent from my ZTE A2017U using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  19. I didn't think about those. They would definitely fit the bill for low compression. A bit more than I usually pay for balls though. Maybe I can find a good deal on some somewhere. I actually haven't really even played in cold weather, but as I get more and more hooked on golf I want to keep trying to work on my meager game so I'm not completely rusty by spring.
  20. Had my weekly 9-hole co-worker scramble last night. Off the tee wasn't too bad. Making good contact, first drive was a hook into the woods and lost, had a couple others that leaked off to the right a bit but were playable and a couple of others managed to hit the fairway. Between the tee box and green wasn't great. Making some solid contact but was hooking just about everything, and for some reason my wedge play was terrible, just could not get the ball in the air. It's almost like I forget everything I do in practice when I get out on the course. The bright spot was my putting. Made five putts, two of them for my groups only birdies, and one from what must have been at least 20 feet. Almost made a 6th putt but the ball stopped short by just a couple of inches.
  21. I'm in Yukon so it's a bit more of a drive, but not too bad. I guess if you don't mind playing with a hacker who can't hit the ball straight. On very rare occasions I have flashes of brilliance but usually I'm either hooking or slicing.
  22. Thanks for the input guys. Good to know all those red, green and yellow Duo Soft Optix won't go to waste. Is there much difference between the Q Star and Q Star Tour? I have three dozen of last years Tours that I haven't used yet. I understand that completely. I once lost a ball in one of many piles of dead cut grass in between the tee box and green on a par 3. Didn't think I would lose a bright red ball only half way to the green, but I did.
  23. That's cool that he recognized you. I don't know any of the guy's names but there is one guy who works in the clubhouse that's really nice, and another who seems like he's just there for the paycheck. It is a very good course, and not too difficult for a newbie to get into the game. It does seem to be in great shape this year too. Seems like last summer there was a lot of crabgrass growing on the greens, this year the whole course looks good. That's Trosper's signature 18th hole in my profile pic.
  24. With fall approaching and winter not far behind, I started thinking about the best balls to use during cold weather. I have read you want a softer, low compression ball to help maximize distance, but I had also read a slow swinging beginner (sort of) like myself should use a low compression ball regardless of season for the same reason. The MGS ball test made me think twice about that and now I love using urethane balls rather than the WS Duo softs I always used to use. It's great being able to stick a green instead of watching the ball hit and roll off the back. Anyway, does that theory still hold true for colder temps? If true, at what temperature would it be most beneficial to start using a softer ball? I have dozens upon dozens of 2 pieces Wilson Staff balls from when I thought they were best for my game. What are your go-to balls for colder weather?
  25. I do practice when I can, usually in the evenings in the yard after work. I don't get around to playing as often as I would like, but my work group has a weekly scramble I almost always play in. There is a nice little 9-hole pitch-n-putt not too far from where I live that is great for iron and wedge practice, and plenty of water hazards for added interest. If it wasn't for this annoying thing called work I might really be able to get good.
