  1. Hi,

even though the UK is in lockdown again (😭) so no golf, I’m getting excited because I’m on the hunt for some new clubs in the near future. The full set - except, maybe, the putter.

I’ve kept my current clubs for about 10 years and hope to get the same longevity out of the new set. So while it’s not money no object, I am willing to travel and pay (if needs be) for a quality custom fit. If it’s within a few hours travelling of me in North Lincolnshire that would be a bonus. But I may be prepared to go further afield, within England, for the right fitter.

Has anyone got any recommendations? I’ve searched online but am not entirely convinced.

I would like to have the choice of as many brands as possible, having been to Ping before and had custom irons and wedges from them. Not to say that I’m unhappy with Ping and they could still be my choice, but I want to go to someone who is not tied to one brand.

    Any recommendations please?

  2. So, today I got an email from the pro at my club - winter studio memberships available. That’s the indoor GC Quad launch monitor/simulator to you and me.

On the one hand, great, thinks I. I’m going to do that and work on my game.

Rapidly followed by: shute, does that mean the season is nearly over? Again!

Oh well. I’ll keep working at it and maybe NEXT year I’ll get my handicap down...

  3. Just in case I misread. The TrueFit went well, but are you saying you did or didn't match the shaft recommendation?
    Or did and then switched....
Just trying to decipher how accurate you felt it was.  It is highly intriguing to me, as my fittings have not gone well. Produced the worst clubs I've played with in my golfing life.

    Hi,

I matched the shaft exactly for the TrueFit.

I got the distance increase (sometimes) that TrueFit advised. But I wasn’t accurate with it. Less accurate than my old Ping driver in fact.

That’s why I decided to experiment with the Tensei Orange at 10g lighter than the recommended Tensei Blue.
And it hasn’t worked. I’m still inaccurate with it no matter where I put the weights and with either shaft 🤷🏼‍♂️

  4. I had been playing MCC+4 midsize, but re-gripped my all clubs about 15 rounds ago with Jumbomax small Pro grips after a trial period with one club.  Aside from getting a few random strange or negative comments, the experiment has been a success so far.  I've dropped about 1-2 strokes per round average since the change including multiple competition rounds.  The random low 80s round has not happened since the change over.  I hit more solid shots and less of the hooks that were score killers.  I do think it is worth trying out.  I've looked at other brands Jumbo sized  grips as I am always concerned about supply issues.  The only real negative it getting them in and out of the bag.  I might have to go with a large one.

    Interesting Thank you

    2 Questions:

Was it purely an “anti-hook” measure for you?

And by “the random low 80’s round has not happened” I presume that means that you shoot in the 70’s or better all the time now 🤞🏼

I have a spare 6 iron for my set - the result of an unseen stone in a fairway bunker. I think it’s time for a JumboMax grip on that one, and see how that goes.

  5. I wasn’t sure about the shaft and at a past fitting (for hybrids) a lighter shaft was the way to go (65g for the hybrid)

So, as I used to have a 55g shaft in my Ping, I’ve got a 50g Tensei Orange Stiff in it to try.
One round in and I’m optimistic.
I really must get to the driving range and on a launch monitor though IMG_3337.JPG

  6. Just a quick update

Golf is back on the menu in England but with no practice area and social distancing. So that means that I’ve been able to get 5 rounds in but no practice.
So I’ve probably hit my new toy about 40 times.

I haven’t been able to get on a launch monitor, so have set up the driver lie angle, loft and moveable weights to my “best guess”

And it seems to be working, more or less. I’ve gained distance - according to Arccos. Up from 252 yards smart distance with my Ping G series driver (which was fitted by my club pro when it came out in 2016) to 274 yards with the Mizuno ST190G.

It’s early days but I’m enjoying hitting it and it seems to fit - so truegolffit so far!

I’ll post again when I’ve got more games under my belt and have hopefully been able to get on the launch monitor IMG_3241.JPGIMG_3242.JPG

  7. I was fairly disappointed with the experience of TruFitGolf. I entered just a few metrics and could not review them at a later time. It also suggested two drivers that are hard to find in my area and have almost no used market. I love the company in general so I think of it as a small donation.

I considered it a risk worth taking too

I just want to be able to get out there to give it whack 🥺

  8. For the summer, on my push cart, I like a 14 way divider.

I’m a bit forgetful ( wedge left at the previous green type thing🤪) and like peace and quiet when I’m walking and to keep my clubs in good condition. I also I hate “club clatter” as I walk 🤨

So the best bag I ever had was a Bennington Quiet Organiser. It had 9 spaces for the irons, a putter well and divided space for the woods. It was easy to see all your clubs, you could soon see if an iron was missing.

I’ve not got one any more and this is making me nostalgic - maybe I’ll have to get one for my next bag IMG_3155.PNG

  9. Sorry to hear about this, I think it's terrible when someone won't do the right thing and turn it in. I don't see how people can live with themselves when they just take someone's stuff.

    I agree

Like someone earlier said, I’d keep phoning for a while, just in case. I’ve accidentally gone home with someone’s club before when I’ve picked it up on the course. I hope that’s all that’s happened 🤞🏼

And if they have nicked it, I hope all their rounds from now on are worse than the one you had there. Much worse!

  10. Hi

So I’ve taken the plunge and got myself a chipper to try to prop up my weak chipping game 🤞🏼

A Square Strike 45 degree has been chosen and put in the bag. But it needs a putting type action and I’m using my putting grip but it feels weird with the standard tour velvet style narrow (standard) grip on there. I use a SuperStroke type grip on my putter and wanted something similar on my Square Strike. But it had to be legal so no putter grips allowed.

I settled on a JumboMax Wrap Small (not small - bigger than Jumbo - +1/4”) - and I like it for chipping.

But here’s the thing, with a bit of arthritis setting in to the fingers, I’m beginning to wonder about this type of grip for my irons too.

Has anyone got any experience of switching to these on their iron set?

  11. I tried their app for a driver when I was starting to lose my love for my gamer. It came back with the exact setup I was playing! When I contacted them to complain I was told I should be happy that their software affirmed my setup as the best. PS, I’ve moved on rather quickly to a different driver/shaft. Waste of money.

    Sorry, but

I did wonder how they could quote, for example: +13 yards, 10% more accurate

I mean, they take no data of your current setup or distance with it. So how can they know how much further you will hit their recommendation 🤷🏼‍♂️

In your case, they didn’t. And I’m disappointed that they didn’t give you a refund. Poor show

  12. I’ll definitely let you know.

In the meantime I’m doing swing speed training which might have an influence on the outcome (fingers crossed)

But all I can do is test it when I get the chance and compare it to my old Ping G Series driver

Really hoping that lockdown will be eased after this recently announced 3 weeks extension

  13. Nice set up

Ping has it going on - I'm bagging me some Ping at the moment, too.

Ping does indeed! I'm lucky that I live about 30 miles from Ping's UK Headquarters so going for a custom fitting is too easy

  14. Awesome setup! How do you like the stretch?

I really like the mix of older and newer clubs. Great to see older clubs make the bag and stay.

Love the Stretch. Only real problem with it is that I hit it a bit too far so it's encroaching on driver distance!

The S57's have been ITB for a looong time 😊 I really like them and don't find the modern equivalents to be a significant step up. I think they'll eventually have to be replaced as they'll have worn out!

Mind you I do like the look of the new Ping i210 and i500 irons. They may tempt me to swap 😉

  15. PING Apologist APPROVED! B)

Indeed, tell us more about the 3w Stretch. I understand that Peter Finch games one currently too, but I don't know too much about what makes it different/better than a regular 3w.

The Stretch 3 is in the bag because I was looking for a club to use as an alternative off of the tee when I want more accuracy than the driver. I tried the standard 3 wood and didn't find it to my liking. I just couldn't hit it consistently.

The Stretch 3 is a bit stronger at 13* (std loft w/o using the +/- 1* of the Ping tip adaptor) compared to 14.5* for the standard 3 wood. It also has a bigger head at 184cc volume compared to 169 for the standard 3 wood.

I've got my Stretch 3 set up to 14* and like that bigger head to look down on. It may not sound like much but it makes a big difference to me 😀👌🏼🏌🏼‍♂️🏌🏼‍♂️

BTW- it's still fine to use off the fairway too!
