  1. Feeling your pain! I've got a large family and everyone "needs" a turn for their favorite. Gotta laugh.
  2. Congrats to the best golf site out there. This site has helped me make so many informed equipment choices where I didn't just have to buy blindly at an impulse. Like so many others have said, this is my go to site and the only one that keeps drawing me back. Really great to have classy, helpful members too. Keep up the great work guys!
  3. Congrats on the win guys! Always a nice feeling.
  4. Thanks for the feedback. I played the AVX a lot last year and tested out the new ProV1x's this year so I'll definitely be giving the left dash balls a try as well.
  5. First, thank you for taking the time to write this up. I've been very curious to read some player reviews so I really appreciate this. In the blog they write: " (Mahoney says Left Dash isn’t quite as low spin as AVX, but it’s close). " but you said So I'm wondering how big of a difference in spin you noticed for the driver between the AVX and the -ProV1x. It seems like your saying it has even less spin than the AVX. Also, since there can be some variation in balls, did you try driving several different -ProV1x or did you use the same one throughout? Also, did you find the launch to be high like the regular ProV1x. Thanks again
  6. I see that some have the left dash balls, any thoughts on them yet? My shop says they ordered them but they haven't come in yet. Can't wait to try these.
  7. That's a really pretty course, nice views. I used to live about an hour away (Eugene) and really enjoyed Tokatee the one time I played it.
  8. and the award for best actor in a comedy goes to ...
  9. In case your curious what the app shows, here's a screenshot of my app results (just the top portion) showing the closing angle and stroke type that would equate to. The app also gives Impact Angle, Tempo, Lie Angle and Shaft Lean.
  10. Here's a video from MGS that I thought was pretty helpful. I also downloaded the iPing2.0 app and made my own case for my phone with some cheap parts off the internet (thanks to another MGS member @BK in TEXAS) and got an approximate stroke type with the app.
  11. Nice round, feels great when everything comes together which I can't say happens too often for me. A few years back I shot a season best 84 (45 and 39) during a tournament as a 15HCP and the 8HCP in the group was giving me "that" look by the end of the round. Didn't help that he had an off day.
  12. I usually revert to a simple drill which helps me mentally and that's usually where I need the most help on the green. Set up tees at 3', 5' and 7' from the cup and then make 3 putts in a row from each distance without missing. If you miss any of the putts, start over from 3'. Sounds easy but it's hard enough that it will help boost your confidence when you complete it and translate to less putts on the course.
  13. Thanks for sharing. I got a dozen of these after the article (along with a dozen ProV1x's, a combo pack of Snell's, some Srixion XV and more) and was not overly blown away by them. Seem better than some of the balls that I tested but still struggling to find a clear winner. Still searching for a ball with very little spin off the driver and the right amount of spin around the green. I spin the ProV1x too much but the AVX (what I was using before the ball article) doesn't seem to spin enough around the greens. The B X looked promising on paper but the spin off the driver still seems too much (for me). I'll probably try them again for a few rounds just to confirm. I'd be curious to hear if you had any different thoughts after playing several more rounds with the B X.
  14. @GolfSpy Stroker How was the trip? Hope everything went well.
  15. @GolfSpy Stroker So now that the PGA is going back to Bermuda next year you really want to play Port Royal (even though it's on the other end of the island). GolfNow has it at $117 at noon every day next week which beats the $180 regular rate. Maybe GolfNow has a competitor with a better rate? The place you want to go for your best chance at swimming with turtles is the Clearwater Beach area. They have bus service to the park in front of the beach or you can take a taxi. This is part of the old US military base that used to be at Bermuda and they still have a gate to restrict cars from going out to the end which is called Long Bay Beach at the end on the left (looking east towards St. David's lighthouse). It's a bit of a walk from the gate to the beach but we almost always saw turtles there this time of year. They like to hang out in the seagrass beds which start out at 20 to 30 yards away from shore. Just make sure to go when the water is fairly calm so your visibility is good otherwise you won't see a thing. We got snorkel gear at Costco before we moved there, there are no places to rent gear in the Clearwater area. Maybe Grotto Bay rents gear if you don't want to buy some? If you do end up snorkeling, bring a small (like 1 or 2oz) bottle of baby shampoo. This is what the dive boats use on their masks to minimize fogging. It worked better for us than the actual anti-fogging solution you can buy for way more $. One thing to caution you on is the lack of services in this area. The only bathrooms are a tiny building in the park close to the bus drop-off point. The best place for snorkeling on the island is Church Bay which is on the South Shore past Horseshoe Beach (the best beach - they have rentals and food unlike the Clearwater area) and Fairmont Southampton (where they have the par 3 course - Turtle Hill). It's quite a ways from Grotto Bay though. If you decide to go there, you have to swim out to the rocks, that's where all the fish are. It's pretty amazing on a calm day when the visibility is good, it's like being in a giant fish tank, really cool. For non-beach stuff, they have Harbour nights every Wednesday evening on Front St. in Hamilton. They usually have "Gombey dancers" performing along with some vendors selling food and crafts. Fort Hamilton is at the east end of Hamilton and was probably the best fort that we visited (unless you make it out to Dockyard at the furthest point west). They have a moat garden which is pretty cool and you can take some stairs down into the fort and walk around. There is also a really nice view of Hamilton Harbor from the top of Fort Hamilton. One of the cooler experiences we had was feeding sea anemones when we went Bell Diving. This starts out from Dockyard. It's very loud with your head stuck in a helmet but it was also very memorable. I also went on a 2 wreck dive experience for non-certified divers. Wish I had done more of that, it was really incredible. For eating out, if you don't stay and eat at Grotto Bay the whole time there are some nice places to go around the island. For eating with a view in Hamilton, we ate at Red's Steakhouse upstairs. Nice steaks and a good view. La Trattoria doesn't have a view but is one of the best values we found. Great food and great staff, my kids favorite place. For eating outside of Hamilton, Gibb's Hill lighthouse near Fairmont Southampton was a nice outdoor dining experience. It's called "The Dining Room" and had really great views and good food. There were a few gnats but really not enough to deter us. Eating at Blu at Belmont Hills Golf Course and the patio seating at Port Royal G.C. are also really nice views. If you want to actually eat on the beach you can go to Elbow Beach resort. If you go to Dockyard, the Frog and Onion was good. Dockyard also has the best mini-golf place. Be sure to check out the cave on the Grotto Bay Resort grounds, that's pretty neat. The swimming at Grotto Bay was OK, the water just wasn't as clear as some other places. They did sink a boat off the beach (seems like it was 70' to 100' from the beach, not far) and it's only about 10' or 15' down so pretty easy to free dive down to. A little bit of coral on the boat and some fish hanging out there. Let me know if you have any questions.
  16. Sounds like they have an "all-in 110%" personality. Maybe you could invite them to the course and get them addicted to golfing? (But then they might knock on your door at 5:00am wanting to you to join them and beat everyone else to the course!)
  17. You could also get one of those motion activated water sprinklers set up where they come in to soak 'em down.
  18. Thanks, that was a great video.
  19. Just got the Puttout last week, that's harder than I thought it would be from 8" but I like it. It's better than I thought it would be but the mirror seemed pretty expensive. Sounds like the mirror has some nice features though. Thanks for sharing.
  20. I've played in a lot of tournaments where they broke out the guys by HCP into A and B players (maybe for this reason). Maybe you could suggest to the tournament organizer to break it out in a way that makes sense for your club. Could also scale the money higher for low gross in the top tier.
