  2. In the spirit of our next major, let's see how y'all respond to this. My favorite major is the PGA Championship. It's sentimental to me as I'm from Louisville and Valhalla would host it every so often. Going to practice rounds at the 2000 PGA Championship was my first taste of pro golf. I love the quirky/non-traditional courses. I love the huge field that can give us random winners a la "Dude Wipes" Dufner. I love that it also gives us winners like Tiger, Brooks, Rory, etc. (For those that try the argument about how "random" golfers win it too much. And frankly, I love that it pisses people off. I'm just glad it's going to Bethpage Black this year. Pretty excited to try and buy the MGS bag tag and ball marker again as well. Btw, my favorite majors in order are PGA, Masters, The Open, and a far flung last finish place, the US Open.
  3. I absolutely love Rockbottomgolf.com I have used their site to purchase everything from clubs for the kids to my hybrid and personalized golf balls.
  4. I’m strongly considering getting this ball as I’m looking for a tour ball. I’ve been gaming the e12 soft since they came out, but I need more spin. My swing speed is consistently 96-100 off the driver and the RX is the only tour ball geared towards slower swing speeds from what I can tell.

    Matte Red

I tried the matte red Bridgestone e12 and lost 3/4 of them in one round. Now to be fair I couldn’t hit my driver straight to save my life AND there was a wind advisory. But it was very hard for me to follow the ball in cloudy conditions.
  6. Hey everyone, I'm looking for someone to do an actual ball fitting here in San Antonio. I know Golf Galaxy claims they do this and Club Champion will offer advice, but I'm wanting to actually get fit for a tour ball. I also know Titleist and Srixon are coming to town, but I'm wanting to try everything. Thanks in advance for the help.
  7. So I played the TPC San Antonio Oaks course yesterday. Played as far back as they’d let me, on the gold tees. Shot quadruple bogey on the first hole due to losing two balls. After that, nothing worse than double. Plenty of pars. Shot 90. For the first 15 holes it was covered completely in fog but there was no wind. For the most part I couldn’t see past 160 yards or so. It was kinda nice just hitting the ball and trusting my swing to send it the right place. The bunkers were treacherous but immaculate and I found plenty of them. Starting on the 4th hole my driver was deadly accurate. All in all, couldn’t have asked for a nicer round. I will say this though, the customer service attention and detail I got from there didn’t touch what I received at La Cantera Resort Course. Nobody offered advice or even to clean my clubs. I brought plenty of tip money because I assumed a course charging $300/round would offer that. Oh well, can’t wait to attend the Valero Texas Open in a couple weeks to see how the pros fare.
  8. A few years ago I had an obsession with Callaway. I bought the RAZR X irons and X2 Hot driver, odyssey blade putter, X Hot 3 wood, and a X Hot hybrid. All while playing the Supersoft. Turns out the irons and driver were SENIOR shafts and I swing around 90ish. After taking a long break from the game I have a custom set of clubs from Wilson, Cobra, PXG, Cleveland, and Tommy Armour. 9. Made a couple of changes. I'm waiting for my PXG 0811XF Gen 2 driver. Also, I've switched to the Bridgestone e12 Soft. The best ball I've ever struck. Distance and control off the tee have been perfect while giving me a decent amount of spin on my irons/wedges.
  10. Alright guys, I'm a veteran wanting to take advantage of the military pricing at TPC San Antonio. If you'd like to join me sometime next week, I need to know now. It'll cost you $109 to play. But that's way better than $399 like it usually is. We are a couple weeks before the Valero Open so the Oaks Course will be pretty difficult, but I've never gotten to play a Tour course before. I'm a solid 90 on a muni, so I'm sure I'll be way over that at TPC. However, I don't care. I'm just wanting to have fun and play a tour course. Let me know if you're interested.
  11. There's also the course where they used to host the Valero. You can get on there for well under $100. I like it better than TPC personally.
  12. So I've been completely dominating my Cobra F8 5/6 wood. It's now my favorite club after my putter. I'm debating on going up and pitting the new Cobra speedback against my Wilson C300. Any thoughts?
  13. FYI for you veterans interested, if you call Wilson's customer service number they will give you 20% off an order up to $1000 but it can't be customized. So I bought the D7s and paid $480 for them. Great freaking deal if you asked me. As my swing speed has lowered due to injury, the increased loft/trajectory has meant that my distances haven't changed hardly.
  14. Hate that I just saw this. I'm a San Antonio spy. Let me know the next time you're in the area.
  15. So am I the only one dying to try this ball? I have a swing speed hovering around 95 and will die before I spend $45-$50 on a dozen of balls. I liked the e6, but I imagine the e12 Soft will be perfect for my speed.
  16. Once, when my father came to visit, he wanted to play golf. So he rented some clubs and bought a 2 dozen mega pack of Noodles. When we finished he stuck them in my bag and I didn’t find them till about 3 years later when I finally got around to cleaning my bag. Wondered why it was so dang heavy.
  17. I’m carrying the 5 iron about 185 and the 5 wood at it’s 18.5 degree setting I’m carrying about 200-205. So when I play those courses with the crazy par 5’s I’ll just jack it up to 17. I cannot for the life of me get a 15 degree off the grass, but the 17-20 degree has been perfect.
  18. Thanks! I need to update my blog with the new clubs. I just got the wedges and 5 wood yesterday.
  19. Alright, so after playing for 25ish years, I finally got fit for clubs. I’m 32 years old. I don’t have the shaft information on me at the moment, but I hope you find it interesting nonetheless. Driver: Wilson C300 Stiff Flex 9 degrees, but I’ve got it adjusted to 10 Fairway Wood: Cobra F8 Regular Flex 5-6 wood. It’s set to 18.5 degrees Irons: Wilson Staff D7 Regular Flex 5-GW Wedges: Cleveland CBX 52, 56, 60 Putter: Tommy Armour Impact No.3 Ball: Cut Grey So I consider myself a middle handicapper. I can easily shoot low to mid 80’s. However, I recently was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in my back. So in order to extend my playing time I’ve taken quite a bit off my swing. Because I’m still adjusting to a new swing, I wanted clubs much more forgiving but I wouldn’t lose too much distance. The brand new D7 irons have offered me the best combination of long distance and good accuracy. I know their lofts are jacked but since I slowed my swing, I technically haven’t lost any distance off the iron number. I have the same philosophy with the wedges. My fitter handed me the CBX wedges and I was blown away by how consistently I was hitting them the same distances. As little as I’m getting to play, once a month, I’m not looking to shape too many shots, I just want to go straight. I’m always kinda an underdog guy so you’ll pretty much never find anything Taylormade/Callaway/Ping/Titleist in my bag. I can’t stand the elitist attitude in golf that knocks statistically proven great clubs because they’re not made by a big 4 OEM. My favorite club in the bag is the Tommy Armour putter. I hit hundreds of puts that day and it even blew away the Evnroll for me. I’m not a tall guy either, barely 5’7”, so everything is shaved down 1/4 of an inch to 1/2 an inch. You’ll notice I only have 13 clubs. I’m very satisfied with my 5 wood and 5 iron as my long clubs so I’m considering adding a PM Grind 64 degree wedge for lobs once the new model comes out in February (I know it’s made by Callaway lol). Let me know what y’all think!
  20. I like the Cut Grey as it spins less. I'm not the greatest driver of the ball. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  21. Hey guys, I'm a golf fanatic rediscovering my love for the sport after a few years of . I'm pro muni courses and pro playing something different. I love companies like Wilson, Cut, Snell, Evnroll, and Mizuno. I'm trying to play the best without relying on the big four (Callaway, Taylormade, Ping, Titleist). I discovered MGS and became addicted to their content. I'm slowly overhauling my bag. I started with replacing my Callaway X2 Hot with a Wilson C300. Next will be my irons and wedges. I'm saving my putter for last as I do like my Odyssey White Hot Pro 1 putter, but as I'm getting everything custom fit, I'll be eager to see if it's the right putter for me or if I should switch to something from Evnroll or Bettinardi. All this to say, loving the forum, this site is great. If y'all get bored head over to http://thatgolfsite.wordpress.com
