  1. Simply put, the best round I have played in close to 3 decades! Played men's forward tees 5310 yards. TOTAL SCORE: 78!! NO penalties, NO 6's, 11 pars, 2 fairway sand traps that did not affect scores at all 30 putts, 85% fairways off the tee, HOLE 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 OUT 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 IN TOT Handicap: 16.6 RED65.10/105 305 425 310 135 320 315 330 85 445 2670 360 370 140 450 360 105 150 265 440 2640 5310 Course Hdcp: 10 PAR 4 5 4 3 4 4 4 3 5 36 4 4 3 5 4 3 3 4 5 35 71 INDEX 13 11 3 15 9 7 5 17 1 6 2 14 12 10 18 8 16 4 HCP NET My Score 4 5 4 3 5 5 4 4 4 39 4 5 3 5 5 4 3 5 5 39 78 10. 68
  2. I spent today with driver in hand to get some numbers. I took smacks with e12, current RX and with white box RX. I am reporting here the average white box RX results for 50 shots Club Speed 100 Ball Speed 138 Spin 2810 Launch angle 15º Carry Yard 208 Total Yard 227 To be honest, some to the results were sent lower because of a few of my inconsistencies. Still, if I would have those average numbers in a round, I would be very well pleased. What pleased me the most was a deviation only 5' from line. My tendency to pull a it beyond fade was really minimal. My sometimes thin shots left no marks or smudges Will be tested with a round soon.
  3. Worked in sand traps. Used both 56º and 60º to get out of various trap settings. I was able to get out of of deep sand near a lip. Happy with the height of the shots and the decision of which club to use when. In particular, great loft up to a landing area I was aiming for. When the ball landed, it did not have a big roll. It hit strongly and perhaps gave up a 5' or less roll. This kind of results was somewhat foreign to me. Using both the e6 and e12, I was always able to get the ball up and out of the trap, but rarely got them not to roll too far. Today, I got the bite I often look for.
  4. Today, chipping into a backyard net at about 40' away. A very nice feel off my Ping wedges (Glide 3.0, Graphite, 50º, 56º, and 60º); felt solid and sure. Again, sounds different, but that is ok. As my landing area is NOT a green cut chunk of grass, I am not ready to make pronouncements on bite. Was easy to get a nice high Phil Lob and it looked as if there was enough spin to get it done. I seemed to be quite able to play around with height with my 50º. Can't wait to get the to the indoor top tracker on Thursday Cover has a nice feel off of the clubs So far, nothing I am doing has really gone beyond first look and try arenas. Tomorrow, after work, I will do my first real specific look at sand traps and these items. Note: While I will do quite a bit of Top Tracker recording as part of this exercise, as a golfer, I am not sure I think a lot about numbers when I play, so you may read more from me in terms of feel, sound, and looks, and results in my score. This is the result of playing a much softer e12 and noting the difference to me. So far, I like what I see and feel, even though my very top club speeds are lower than optimum for an RX.
  5. I started out, yesterday, simply hitting these balls on an indoor putting surface. Different sound and feel than the e12 I usually play. And, that is all I wanted to do. I will start with my short game and chipping, a major need to take my game up to another level. I have usually good technique in terms of the swing, though I often have runners on the green. I can hit a fairly lovely looking "Phil lob" that will not fully bite. So my plan is for the following: 1: Chipping and short game. With a top tracker. 2. Drives, starting with some indoor top tracker work to set some aspects in my mind. The next time at this range, I will check irons and hybrids. 3. 2--4 full rounds (18 holes) wit notes and some video. Then, I will rinse and repeat with an eye to show much I have adjusted to the ball and if those adjustments indicate a change of ball for me. If you have specific questions, suggestions, and/or criticisms, drop me a note. I am in particular interested in those that come from older golfers.
  6. I'm from Wisconsin, we grill out at 31º, LOL
  7. Good day through the bag! Solid distance and dispersion, clubs all were within expectations. 90 shots, only one slice, two hook pulls, and one fat shot. if I had this result during a round, I would pay for all at the 19th hole!
  8. Fell in love with my driver all over again! 30 shots today, average distance 230 yards, for me same at 360+ for Tiger in terms of joy! Fairly good dispersion! Nice roll! Improved speed for the weapon. May it act the same tomorrow on the round!
  9. I went from standard full sent, when I was younger to what I use now; I would return.
  10. Time today for a quick 9 hole jaunt. Many of my problems were the result of rushing myself! Course was 32.5/105 good conditions Shot 44, 15 putts, 5 penalty, only 25% fairways, 3 pars and 1 rather ugly double bogie. I needed to finish prior to heading off to a full scheduled day; I tended to not take as much time just before a shot to make sure I was truly ready to swing.
  11. While awaiting the objects, I have bee working on better sequencing in the swing as well as keeping hands from moving wildly forward of the club head. As a result, I have picked up about 25 MPH of ball speed and 35 yards of distance. Not consistent yet, swing speed still a tad under 100 but getting better. Not swinging harder, just a matter of hips and hands.
  12. Focused today on proper sequence of a full swing with my 7i and driver to get better ball and swing speeds at consistent levels. This week, ball speed has gained about 12-15 mph primarily as a result of making sure the right hip begins the process of the down swing. When it does not work well, it is more the result of brain fart meeting old body as much as anything else. Improved strikes with better speed resulted in about 15-29 yards. Not 100% automatic yet.
  13. WenI first was following golf, it was Lee Trevino and then Fellow Wisconsinite Andy North.
  14. Solid day off the tee. Mostly to get the muscles moving after New Year apathy! all speed covered around 105 and distance hovering between 195 and 205. Too much spray, though, off line.
  15. my deepest sympathies
  16. End of 2019 was off, as an overly full schedule of sub teaching, work in suicide prevention, a pulled muscle, cool Phoenix weather, and even some rain, made getting out, even to a range, quite the adventure. I even got behind in my home brew stocks! Got down to 6 cases or less! My golf goals for 2020 are quite simple. As the year ended with much well in my game, just maintaining solid contact is the prime directive. I would like to gain an extra 10-15 mph ball speed. Continue to gain mastery of my PING G410+ and shaping shots with the hybrids and irons. But, most importantly, to continue to have fun, test those Bridgestone spheres, and share thoughts on MGS.
  17. Don't forget that wonderful score by Leonard Bernstein!
  18. Should have posted this a few days ago. During break in the weather pattern, we had the chance to play the TPC Champion course in Scottsdale. And, my friend, who is a member, paid! Total 99, Putts 30, 6 penalties from out of bounds, 2 water penalties, 46% fairways Considering I never played there before, I felt fairly good. It was tough for me; I did not play it very well. The OB shots may simply be the result of trying to hit too hard. No rain that day, but, it was quite cool and the course itself was somewhat wet. I tended to pull it left; even the good shots were strong draws. Will play TPC and I will plan it to e a warmer drier day.
  19. I am anxiously awaiting the white box delivery, so I am now taking time to assess what it is I already do as I stroke the ball and what I, at this time, am hoping to discover in the process. It is very clear that I am an older golfer who is always on the lookout to improve his play. It is obvious, when looking at my stats, that I would be helped out with gaining a little more swing speed, especially off of the tee. I am not ready to expect the ball used to find massive improvement! As the Bridgestone numbers accurately reflect my distance and speed, there is, still, more than some room for growth. What my numbers do not reflect is my more than acceptable hybrid and iron work this year. I get good distance and distribution of distance within those clubs; I am still working with spin rates around the green. My Phil style lob-shots have a tendency to run quite a bit. I will be looking at this from the start. As always, plans will change; I think I am ready!
  20. In preparation for doing blind testing of new spheres for 2020 from Bridgestone Golf, they took some baseline information. In addition to these numbers, lines were straight with minimal divergence from a slight fade. I will be representing the "Old Geezer with Injured Foot" division! Actually, this set of numbers is almost exactly what Top Tracker said I hit a few days earlier, Their recommended ball is what I have played for over a year (e6 before then).
  21. Got is a very sold round of off the tee shots. Yardage was solid; no real out of this world milage appeared, however. I am getting a real feel for the G410+ and have not felt any urge to change any settings
  22. A little cool and a few drops falling. Played forward tees (5578). Score 87, 10 penalties mainly on back 9 due to fatigue, sending a few swimming. 8 Par, 5 bogies, 5 doubles. 64% Fairways, 5 GIR. Good solid drives and short irons today. Penalties were a result to simply over swinging.
  23. This is SO true. While a missed putt will result in another stroke, a missed driver or hybrid shot has the potential of affecting MANY following shots.
