  1. My SS runs about 90, in the mid to late summer it can bump upto about 95. Chris
  2. Lucky you, I went back to my local course last Friday because when I was there Thursday he had 6 dozen. I waited too long, someone was there early Friday morning and cleaned him out of the e12 Soft. I currently have 10 dozen, but always looking for more. Chris
  3. I had the same thought after his performance at the Masters. I was telling some golf buddies Bryson needs to leave the woods in the bag when playing Augusta, how cool would that headline be " Bryson wins the Masters, playing with irons only!" Chris
  4. Played 4 more rounds comparing the e12 Soft v e12 Contact. (2) 9 hole rounds and (2) 18 hole rounds. The (2) 9 hole rounds were bymyself and the results were comparable to my earlier tests with the Soft out distancing the Contact and noticeably straighter. The (2) 18 he rounds were with 3 golf buddies. After explaining to them what I was doing they didn't mind me playing 2 balls. For me, the results didn't change, Soft longer off the tee, irons comparable. My buddies observed the same and were perplexed as I as to why the Soft out distanced the Contact and on almost every drive the Contact would slice off to the left while the Soft flew straight. John figured that because of the dimple pattern on the Contact I was getting much more spin off the driver, but, he said, that's only his opinion. So my conclusion, for me anyhow, is the e12 Soft is the ball for me and the Contact will be removed from the bag. These results are by no means scientific, rather my own opinion on what works for me. Now to hit all the pro shops and loading up on e12 Soft for the foreseeable future. Chris
  5. Here in Michigan I hit on a Trackman at a local course thru the winter. I was having the same issue until the club pro suggested I use the lowest tee he had for the sim (lifts the ball about 1/8 of an inch) His reasoning is that rarely, if ever do you play on a course where the lie is as tight as it is hitting on a sim. Made a world of difference. Now I hit my irons with consistent, comparable distance as I do during the season. It made since to me as I figured that when I'm playing on the course the ball is never laying on the bare, hard ground. There's almost always some grass holding it up a bit. Chris
  6. First off, greetings from Beaverton Michigan. As for dispersion, I would look at your club path, better alignment seems to me would help more than relying on ball spin. Just my 2 cents. Chris
  7. I think some manufacturers are using the word "soft" as a selling tool. I don't put a lot of stock in advertising. I've been playing Bridgestone since the B-330 days. I was really surprised that the Contact was shorter off the tee, I really expected it to be longer than the e12 Soft. I still plan to do some more comparisons over then next month to confirm/deny the results fir myself. Chris
  8. Finally had a chance to give the e12 Contact a real test. Played 9 holes going head to head with the e12 Soft. I've been a Bridgestone guy since the B330 days and was finally happy when I found the e12 soft, the ball fit me perfectly (I prefer the surlyn cover over the Urethane). Anyhow, on the 7 holes where I used my driver, the e12 soft, without exception, out drove the e12 Contact by at least 10 yards. On the 7th hole the Contact went 240 and the Soft 255. I'm truly sadden that the e12 Soft is no longer available. I really had high hopes for the Contact but with todays test that has diminished. Of course this is only one 9 hole round. I plan to give it another go next week now that the weather here in Michigan has finally warmed up. But based on the first 9 holes I don't see the Contact beating the Soft. On the plus side, the driver is the only club that the Soft out distanced the Contact. On mid and short irons they were equal. But further testing is needed. That's my 2 cents worth. Chris
  9. Never wore one, With today's grip tech there's really no reason to wear one. Chris
  10. A buddy of mine has this club (Wilson Mojave sand wedge (51*). We were trying to figure out how old this club is. He really loves it. Anyone have any idea? I'm thinking the 79's. Chris
  11. It does make a difference. I learned that lesson a few years back. Chris
  12. I actually have 3 right now, which one I use depends on if I'm walking or riding. As for replacement, when the bag gets to a point where it is no longer in what I consider "user" condition, you know zippers not working smoothly, holes worn into them, tears on the side or the clubs just don't slide in like they used to then I replace it, Sometimes someone at work is getting started in golf, I'll give them one of my bags to help them out, and it gives me a good excuse to get a new one!! Chris
  13. I'm quickly learning this. I thought I could focus on one number, finding out I need to look at AoA, Launch angle and spin to optimize distance and direction. Only problem is that much math makes my head hurt....Then I find out that tee height makes a difference, and lets not forget ball speed affects what optimal launch is for a given ball speed.....ugh!!! But I gotta say it's rather enjoyable, like solving a mystery.
  14. I'm working on a Trackman trying to improve my stats in an effort to improve my drives, more so on accuracy with a nod toward distance. As I ponder that, I'm looking at Attack angle and Launch angle. My question is which would you consider to be more of a factor toward improvement? I'm leaning toward Launch angle, as in my mind, if I get the launch angle to something in the neighborhood of 12* then angle of attack is irrelevant. Chris
  15. I got hooked around 7 or so watching golf on TV. My folks knew nothing about golf or sports in general, so all I did was watch it on tv thru the late 60's, 70's. Around 1981 I found a used, ill fitted set of left handed Ram clubs. As I was in college I spent most of my spare money buying the clubs from a local pro shop at at course. As I was buying them I asked the pro if he had a job opening. Well, He gave me a job changing sprinkler heads thru the night. That got me unlimited play on the course during non busy times. Pretty much self taught from there. Back then we didn't have computers and you Tube and such. Trial and error is all I had. Golf balls were free though, shagged them at night while changing sprinkler heads! Chris
  16. Typically I use my phone (android). I'm going to give ad blocker another try.
  17. Tried AdBlock, no luck. Why are these ads popping up? Are they something MGS authorized?
  18. On some of the threads I keep getting a scrolling ad that blocks some of the thread. Wondering if you have any advice on getting rid of them? Chris
  19. As I continue to personalize my clubs to me and my game I've come to my next step in the process. I'm trying to understand how swing weight affects swing speed. I know that swing weight affects "feel", but does it affect swing speed? As an example my 8 iron from Ping was a D0. It is now a D8. Chris
  20. Used about a season and a half. I just can't hold it still enough, went back to a GPS unit. Tried to take a picture thru the rangefinder, but it's difficult to hold camera, rangefinder, line up everything and take the pic, especially for this old cuss. Anyhow, $150 shipped in the lower 48. Chris
  21. I would encourage you to contact Ping directly. Their customer service is absolutely fantastic. I had and old i10 set, contacted them about 2 years ago to see if I could get the lie adjusted. They did it, I had to sign a waiver due to age of the clubs. So contact them, I can't imagine they would not do something for you. Chris
  22. For what it's worth, 2 seasons ago I did extensive lie testing on my own. I figured who knows me better than me. Did a lot of reading and research to understand what lie angle was all about. Tons of testing different lies (I bought quite a few clubs with different lie angles), got out the blue painters tape and a sharpie and started hitting balls. For me 2 degrees upright on all irons and wedges worked the best. It gave the most consistent results on ball flight and target line. Even with the wedges on pitches and chips as well as full shots. Chris
  23. WOW,thanks everyone, I really appreciate the well wishes. Although technically my birthday is the 29th of February which as we all know is a once in 4 year event. So I've actually had 15 birthdays at this point in my life. So in 24 years I'll be 21, old enough to drink!! Chris
  24. The past few months I've been hitting on a Track man Sim. Mostly range stuff trying to zero in on yardage. I do work on my driver during those sessions which is why this question. I'm pretty consistent at -3 degrees which puts the bottom of the arc above 1"past the ball. I know if I can get the angle to +4 degrees I can add probably 30 plus yards to my drive. So I'm trying to understand what I can try/do to get my angle of attack up. I've tried moving the ball (no change on attack) so I'm wondering now how much shaft stiffness plays into the mix? I am planning a driver fitting later in March, im just trying to understand what the variables are? Thanks, Chris
  25. Buffy, thanks for your input on this subject, it confirms pretty much my thinking and is something I will be doing research on this winter and seriously addressing what clubs I carry starting next season. Chris
