  1. I joined mainly to see the ball and club reviews, but have grown to appreciate many of the forums. Unlike some other forums, I’ve found the MyGolfSpy forums to be very friendly in nature and full of fun, helpful exchanges.
  2. I prefer to arrive about an hour early, but usually arrive about 45 minutes early. I like to do a bit of stretching, hit balls progressing from wedges to mid-irons to a few hybrid and fairway wood shots. I finish the range with half a dozen drives. Hopefully I then have enough time left to do some chipping and putting before teeing off. As a side note: I work a couple days a week as a starter/marshal at our course. It’s very helpful for the starter if you arrive at the tee box about 10 minutes before your scheduled tee time. Sometimes groups arrive late and if you are there early, the starter can slide you off in their place and more easily fit the late group in, when they arrive. Clearly this is not your problem, but by being there early, you may be able to help keep the course on schedule. You’ll also get to the 19th hole a little sooner.
  3. Congrats guys! I really like the Apex ‘19 irons that I am currently playing and am anxious to read your stories on the Paradym irons. Cheers, BFitz
  4. I use GHIN for tracking handicaps, V1 for the occasional recording and reviewing my swing, and GolfShot Plus for on course score keeping. GolfShot has an excellent user interface and connects nicely to the AppleWatch. It’s very easy and quick to update your score. Using the watch interface it is faster to update the score than using a scorecard. I’d be interested in hearing more about different golf specific training apps. I’ve heard a few mention “fit for golf” and “18Strong”. I’d really like to hear more about these and others. have a great 2023! -BFitz
  5. I really enjoy walking and intend to keep walking the golf course as long as I can. A couple of years ago I purchased a battery powered push cart to help lighten the load. Using this, I’m definitely a bit fresher when done with a round and think this will help this old guy to keep hoofing it longer. -BFitz
  6. Golf treated me very well in 2022. I managed to play a personal best of 100 rounds on 29 different courses. The bulk of them were at my home club in the Portland, Oregon area, but I also wondered from home a bit. Home club: The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Course, South The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Course, North Other Portland area courses: Chehalem Glenn Eagles Landing Forest Hills GC Langdon Farms Meriwether National Meriwether Executive Oregon Golf Association course Pumpkin Ridge GC, Ghost Creek Quail Valley Rock Creek CC Other Oregon courses: Bandon Dunes Resort, The Preserve course Bandon Dunes Resort, Sheep Ranch course Bandon Dunes Resort, Bandon Dunes course Sunriver Resort, Meadows course Sunriver Resort, Woodlands course Sunriver Resort, Crosswater course Pronghorn GC, Nicklaus course Tucson, AZ: Crooked Tree GC, Tucson Arizona National GC El Conquistador CC Washington state: Chambers Bay Gamble Sands Gold Mountain, Olympics course Salish Cliffs Michigan: Arcadia Bluffs, Bluffs course Crystal Lake GC Pinecroft GC Best of golf to all in 2023!
  7. Now a septuagenarian, my main goal is to keep playing and walking the golf course. A bonus would be to break 80 again. Haven’t done that for a few years. To do this: Get back to the gym. Haven’t been since pre-COVID. Have been doing core work and stretching at home, but no weight work. Get some swing speed back. Got a RypStick and started training around the first of the year. After two weeks of training saw about 5 mph improvement. Then, after 3 years of successfully dodging it, I caught Covid. I’m fine but haven’t yet restarted the speed training. Accomplishing #1 above will also help with this. Eliminate double bogeys. I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to score a double bogey on the 18th hole to then finish with an 80! Better course management will help here. Don’t be a hero. Use enough club to ensure carrying the hazards. Spend as much time on the practice green as I do on the range. This is such an obvious way to improve my scores - why am I not already doing this? Keep having fun on the golf course. Best wishes for everyone to reach their goals! -B.Fitz.
  8. I have sleeves from both Nike and Pearl Izumi. They are comfortable and work great. I have worn them on 90 degree F days and I was still comfortable. As others have mentioned, with skinny arms like mine, they have a tendency to slip down a bit. I’m curious about ourstoryi sleeves and whether that stretchy, one-size fits all material would stay in place better. May have to try them.
