  1. Good stuff! Nice to see a performance review of the new Vice. Since the ball test I’ve played the old Vice Pro but I’m weary of the new ball until I see some validation from the ball lab. Obviously price is my biggest hurdle, but from what I’ve seen, can’t find a better ball for the money. I mean, you’re talking half the price and similar performance with the AVX. 2. I’m well on board the Bryson train. Love what he does and why he does it. Great role model and example of what sticking to what works for you and working your butt off will get you! Plus he’s great for golf right now. As for the haters, I never understood fans or people that make these judgements on athletes/celebrities based on 30 second interactions, or what they see on tv. In my experience, having spent 15 years around athletes, what you see on tv can be very different from what you get in real life. I mean down to his diet...I’m sure the group of experts he has know what they’re doing. If you’re worried about his health, you should see what other athletes do to make weight [emoji1787] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Yes this is definitely not for everyone, at 33 years old I’m in the best shape of my life, partly thanks to my wife who’s a fitness trainer. It’s definitely bigger than just a golf thing, have to have the fitness/health to go with it. As far as tempo goes, I think the biggest gains I’ve made in my swing are tempo based. But separating tempo from speed is key. I’m quick(tempo) and fast(speed). When I’m at my best, I feel slow tempo but fast speed. Like my new swing coach says, less back there(backswing) and more over here(follow through). It’s a fine line and different for everyone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. Round 2 in the books... 2 things before I get into the data. 1. I decided to loft my Epic Flash down to 8° from 9°. 2. I had my first ever lesson this week and made some slight swing changes that will have an affect as well. Like last week, I saw my consistency all around better than usual. I saw a huge improvement in ball flight, as I was hitting a soft cut, much lower and straiter. To me it looked like lofting down, which also closes the face slightly, got the ball on line more and reduced spin to maximize my distance. I definitely had more of a right miss this week. I hit 5/10 fairways, but took 4 penalties. 2 lost balls and had 2 shots that left me blocked out from the green. Strokes gained of -3.63, all based off of a scratch golfer, as I’m a 20 handicap. Driving handicap was average at 24. BUT unlike last week, I saw an obvious jump in distance. Average went up to 243 and my performance average jumped up to 278!!!! That’s 34 yards above my previous performance average! It showed up in scoring as well as I tied my course best 90. I was net -4 through 15 holes but I’d been outside all day in the 100° heat and I ran out of gas at the end. Needless to say, I’m absolutely stoked about what I’ve seen so far, the numbers do not lie! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. And now I have my first double post [emoji2957] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I had the biggest roller coaster round of my life today. I was under net par the entire front 9, came within a foot of my first ace and sat at 42 at the turn. Best 9 ever on my home course. Through 15 holes, I was net -4 but I’d been outside all day and the 100° heat was getting to me and I knew it. Told myself all I had to do was keep it in play and get out of the last three holes with bogeys. I then proceeded to drop 4 strokes over the last 3 holes and ended up tying my best round there at 90. Can’t believe I was that close, playing that well and I just flat ran out of gas. On top of that, on 17 a pair of older gentlemen caught me, I was walking so I’d usually let them go, but since there was 1 hole to play I figured I’d be alright. Well I’m walking across the 18th fairway after hitting my approach, and I hear a tee shot, then I hear a ball, and I look up as it wizzes by about 6 feet in the air right in front of me. It takes a lot to make me mad, but I was so drained it really ticked me off. Without even thinking about it, I casually kicked his ball out of the rough and into the trees. He pulled up and said “sorry, didn’t see you there” but I was in the middle of the fairway, 200 yards in front of him and he just watched me chip and putt on the last hole. I just smiled and waved and walked toward the green. Not sure I handled that the best way but passive aggressive is better than aggressive I guess. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I actually just did this about a month ago. Thought I was destroying the sensor prying it out but they do pop out fairly easy with a screwdriver. I had an air nozzle with a brass nipple on the end of it. I put the nozzle in the hole on the butt end and it worked but I messed up the grip, blew up like a balloon in one spot. I’d recommend sliding something between the shaft and the grip to help bleed pressure. Of course the shop air at work was probably too much pressure. I got the butt end free easily but had to really work on the small end. Probably a little impatient on my part. I definitely feel like I could do it fairly easily now...hope that helps! 9. First round in the books on Saturday, after digesting some data, I think I’m on to something. I’ll start by saying that this was not a good day to run this test on course, as it was somewhat windy, but I was committed. Much like on the range, I saw a noticeable jump in consistency, from strike, start line, trajectory and overall ball flight. As I saw on the range, I had a consistent high, big fade(slice really). I hit a whopping 2/10 fairways but only had 3/10 that cost me strokes, 2 drops and 1 punch out. Again proving that fairways are just not a reliable stat for average golfers, in my opinion. On average, not so different from my normal stat line, so far. As I suspected, I didn’t see a big jump in overall distance, but my average shot WAY up. According to my shotscope, my performance average went from 244 to 253 but my average went from 208 to 236. My strokes gained went from -7.7 to -3.25 and my driving handicap went from 32 to 15. Overall I scored 4 strokes above my average. Shotscope data is from this year/season and SG is from GolfMetrics app, based on my 3 previous rounds, as I just started using SG. Here is my dispersion with driver, I normally have a 60/40 left miss. Taking the right side out of play was nice. I feel like slowing down was creating my 2 way miss as my timing would change from shot to shot. I’d go after one and fade it, then try to ease one in the fairway and draw it. For me, going after it takes the conscious thought out of it and let’s my muscle memory take over, at least that’s my hypothesis. I like where this is going, but it definitely needs some work and more data. I’m convinced I need to work on my driver to better suit the new swing, and myself to get the club face closed a touch more and make it more playable. Also had a bad day with my irons, hitting everything thin. Most likely my new move bleeding into the rest of my game so I’ll have to manage that. More to come... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Set has around 80 rounds on it over the last 2 years, but still has plenty of life left in them. Stock Speedstep 80 R shafts. Make me an offer, buyer pays shipping from Charlotte, NC area.
  11. Definitely can be a chicken or the egg situation. Are you delivering the club based off of your tee height or teeing your ball based off of your club delivery [emoji848] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Honestly my usual strike is high toe and tend to sky one every now and then. But there’s a mental side to that equation, with teeing the ball lower, you feel the need to go down to get it and that can make it worse. So far I’ve found that I’ve actually been more low heel with the new swing. I figured some of this out a few weeks ago at the range, saw a strike drill for irons. Hit one off the ground, one teed up like a 3 wood and one like a driver. I found that teeing the ball up “too high” for irons really helped my strike and that’s where I started to get the feel of hitting up and really going after it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Ok, so we’ve all seen the new Bryson and his new swing the last few weeks. After looking into it a bit to see what he’s really doing from a technique standpoint, it got me wondering what us mortals could learn from it. I’ve been all over the place with my driver lately and have been searching for anything to get back on track. I did super speed training last year for about 8 weeks, gained around 10 mph club speed but got busy and was happy with my gains. I played some of my best golf during and just after I was speed training. I really believe slowing down can throw timing off and make things worse, which is my tendency when I’m not playing well. Also, being a fan of Mark Crossfield, I’ve been seeing what he’s been doing with his swing and the gains he’s made. So I’ve decided to put in some work and go Hulk Smash! Here’s the adjustments I’ve made: -Tee the ball up about 1/2” higher, most of the ball is above the face at address. -Setup slightly farther from the ball and really feel myself reaching to hit up on the ball -In my downswing I really feel myself pushing off with my lead foot and almost jumping backwards at impact. It feels like my whole body is rotating around my lead shoulder. -Swing full throttle, let it rip After a test session on the range this afternoon, it’s got me excited. Strike and ball flight were very consistent, which is what I struggle with on course. It was a consistent high fade, a big fade but it’s a start. It gets me wondering if I should loft down my Epic Flash to help but without real numbers, I have no idea where my launch and spin are. Hopefully I can get on a launch monitor soon and really get an idea where I’m at and where I need to go. I can’t be the only one curious and starting to test the waters a bit. Any thoughts, opinions, suggestions greatly appreciated... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I’d say food and hydration are about the only things that get to me during a round. Pace of play used to but I’ve gotten over that mental barrier. I’m surprised to see comments about work/stress. For me my weekly round is my getaway from everything. I get so into what I’m doing that I honestly forget about everything that is going on and focus on my game. One time I left work to meet a friend of mine for an afternoon round, the transmission in my truck started slipping and it went into limp mode. So i limped it to the course at 40 mph and played a decent round. When we got done my buddy looked at me and asked if I needed a ride home, I looked at him for a second before I realized what he was talking about. I completely forgot about the fact that my truck needed a new transmission. [emoji1787] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. This topic is really fascinating, every time it comes up it brings out some crazy comments. I don’t get the people that “don’t care” but always seem to have strong opinions about people that do. Really what everyone wants is 1) engineering, not marketing from the OEMs and 2) more options to help suit more players. Not sure when or if we’ll ever get either. Not every OEM has the integrity that Titleist and Ping seem to have. Marketing, bottom lines, release cycles, and demographics are real things that get in the way sometimes. It’s really an issue that encompasses everything that MGS is about. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Agreed, their are more options now than their probably used to be. Titleist and Ping have good ranges of options but outside of them it’s hit or miss. I lived this loft jacked nightmare in finding a good set of irons for myself. I felt very limited and stuck between game improvement and players distance. I haven’t seen the numbers but it feels like the loft jacked irons are disproportionate to the number of players they fit. Good news is that the industry seems to be headed more towards fitting and wider ranges of options to fit more golfers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. The problem is that if you want gi clubs but not strong lofts, your options are very limited. They are not for everyone. What most people overlook is the added cost. If you’re spending $1000 on a set of irons but can’t use 2 or 3 of them, then have to buy other clubs to replace them along with another wedge because your PW became a 9i. From a consumers perspective, it feels like it’s all about selling more clubs. It’s effectively making iron sets smaller for a lot of golfers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. For me it’s really aggravating. I get that there is a market for these jacked clubs, but there is a huge section of golfers that they are not good for. The problem is, data shows more people should use game improvement clubs but when the vast majority of them are strong lofted, it makes it hard. Personally I’m newer to the game, 20 handicap, with a shallow aoa and plenty of speed. Easy to say that I should play gi clubs, but the lofts hurt me and create gapping issues. I need more players lofted cavity backs which narrows my options. I feel like I’m the perfect example of why jacked lofts are hurting the game. Obviously the best thing is more options, but marketing to demographics is much more cost effective and people like to see there 7 iron go farther even if it will never hold a green. Anyone that’s ever seen these clubs on a launch monitor knows the marketing is bs. The 7i became a 6i, who cares what number is on the bottom? I do! Because a set of clubs is the same price and I can use less of them, and I need more specialty clubs to fill those gaps. To me, it’s all marketing and cost effective business tactics. 19. The only thing I know of is the Exputt. MGS did an article on it last year. It seems to be fairly new, I want one but I’ve been waiting for an official review before I drop a few hundred bucks on one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. That’s a tough one... I would get fit to remove all doubt from my mind knowing it’s a driver and I’d probably be playing it for another 10 years. Logically I’d say that most any new driver will probably be an improvement, especially if spin is the big factor in your gains. Depends on what value you put on the possibility of finding something better. For me, it would always be in the back of my mind, especially on a bad day with the TS4. 21. I always take 2 practice swings before each and every shot. It keeps me in a consistent routine and serves as a calibration for the shot. I’m looking for a certain feel based on the shot. Then I can clear my mind for the real shot. It also lets me know when I’m overthinking from a mental game perspective. If I make a few nice smooth practice swings that feel great and then make a completely different swing that results in a bad shot, I know instantly that it was a mental error. 22. Just going off of the info provided, I’d go with the blue, which I believe is your current Cobra driver. I think I would speak for a lot of people who have gone through this, myself included, if I was hitting one direction 95% of the time, I’d be thrilled. Especially with driver, once you start getting rid of the cut, you’ll start to draw, then next thing you know, you’ll have yourself a lovely 2 way miss. Just my personal experience for what it’s worth. I’d look to help control the cut assuming you tend to over cut. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I choke up to the bottom of the grip like I would any other chip with my wedge, so the club length isn’t an issue. I find with the putter, the bigger the swing the more problems arise, like bad strikes and distance control issues. Instead of having to try to whack it out of the rough/fringe with my putter and guess how hot/far it will come out with half the swing you can get the ball rolling on the green. I’ll use my hybrid in a heartbeat on a long uphill put, especially if I’m going up a tier in the green, way easier to control distance. Chris Dennis has done a few videos on his YouTube channel recently showing better proximity with a hybrid around the greens. I’ve had similar results. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Here in the Charlotte, NC area the average is $40-$50 per round. That’s your average nice public course. Plenty of options, many cheap courses in the $20 range and also many higher end tracks at $65 plus. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. In some ways, I think that idea is backwards. A lot of high handicaps have a lot of shape to their shots and a two way miss. Most better players hit the ball strait. As a 20 cap right now, i rarely hit anything strait, I always have a shape in mind to trigger my swing. I think it’s more about control than shape. Much easier to aim one way and make a deliberate draw/fade swing than to line up down the middle and try to hit it strait. At the end of the day it’s about managing your tendencies. I tend to start the ball at the target, and bleed it off line, so I aim left or right of target and shape it to the target. Plus I’m all about getting better as a player, sure hitting the same shot every time will help your score short term, but trying those shots is the only way to get better at them and really improve in the long run.
