  1. Was in the Arkansas Golf Shop today so my wife could hit some demo hybrids and irons and recommendations. She's currently playing some senior shaft Adams hybrids and irons but I'm thinking that, although she needs the longer length than standard ladies irons, they're too heavy and not enough flex for her slower swing. She liked the Callaway Rogue OS hybrids. Going to have her talk things over with her swing coach and get his input. Bought a cleat tool and a Puma shirt for myself.
  2. Yeah, I got 5 dozen RB-X balls last year from a Mizuno sponsored member-guest tournament. I didn't care for the ball at all and sold 4 dozen of them at a good price to the buyer.
  3. Never heard this before...I'll have to give it a go next time I'm out on the practice facility! And...au contraire to the wasting of your time. I always read them.
  4. Better day today. Ball striking was much better after being very aware of my setup and basics. 39 on the front and remained 3 over through 13, when a mental error on 14 brought about a double bogey. Another bogey on 15 and one more on 18, both due to mishit approach shots to come in with a 79 for the day.
  5. I've been using the Fast Twist 3.0 PiViX lately. They have a bit more softness and give to them than some of the others. Having said that, FootJoy recommends the Tornado for the Hyperflex model shoes, even though they don't come with them initially. I may give them a go. As long as they're FastTwist, they'll fit your FJ shoes.
  6. I often do the same with the instep of the trail foot and that's typically my go-to. I think it's more of the through swing right now...coming out of the shot a hair and not catching the ball cleanly. As you said, it's normally just something slight and getting back to the basics will generally fix the issue. Just need to focus more on the basics and quit beating myself because I'm not playing to my expectations.
  7. For me, winning The Open or the US Open would be the one that I would cherish the most. You're competing against the best in both the amateur and professional sport.
  8. Continuing to have some issues with my swing and ball striking of late. 44 on the front, but turned it around somewhat on the back with a 39. Not sure what's really going on, but I do know that I'm frustrated with it and that's likely feeding the issue. Just need to get out of my own way and letting the swing happen, I guess. I did hit some really nice shots today on the back, so...I got that going for me.
  9. Most of the comments on this thread may qualify.
  10. Another stink-o day today. Team event of 3 best net. I was the A player and stunk it up, but the team played well enough to take 2nd of 7 teams and to win 3 team skins. Our opening hole (and first skin) was a short par 3. I hit my ball just past the pin and it spun back to 4 inches below the hole for a tap in birdie. The D player (with a stroke) rolls in a 25 foot putt for birdie, net one. Add in a par from one of the other players and we hole out with a net score of 6 and started the round with the lead at 3 under. By the 6th hole, we're at 8 under. We start counting our chickens before they hatch....I lose my game somewhere along the line, the B player is no help, and suddenly we're depending on our C and D players. We go from 8 under to as low as 3 under, fight our way back to 7 under for the lead again, only to give 2 back on the final hole. We're still in the lead, but last team picks up 2 on their final hole and we take 2nd.
  11. Absolutely stunk it up today. Couldn't find my tempo, putting wasn't up to snuff, just felt out of sorts the entire round. No idea why. Shot 45/40, bookend doubles on the front 9. One of my playing partners was the epitome of how to slow a round down by using a line on your golf ball....he'd align the ball, step back, adjust, step back, adjust again, and maybe once more...all this for a 60 foot putt that he leaves short.
  12. Bingo!! This is spot on!! I'm also a big fan of developing a pre-shot routine that you repeat for every putt....be it for 20 foot or 3, casual round or tournament round, for birdie or bogey, on the course or on the practice range...repeat the routine, stroke the putt, and let it happen.
  13. Just ordered a Callaway Rogue 5H to replace a TM M6 hybrid. Took advantage of Callaway's trade-in +50% offer. The Callaway is 23* and the TM was 25*. Distance with the TM was too close to my 6i. Also, my new pair of HyperFlex shoes arrived today (makes for my 3rd pair -- these were charcoal to go with my blue pair (fairly new) and my gray pair (the oldest pair of the 3)). These are last year's models and are on sale at Footjoy before the newer models arrive. This shoe is the best fitting golf shoe that I've ever put on my feet. I ordered a pair of Tour Alpha's, but they just didn't feel right on my left foot, even though it was a wide shoe, like I wear with the HyperFlex.
  14. I believe the obvious choices were Cam Smith and Scottie Scheffler. Cam's move to LIV took that hard choice away. I think that either of those two were deserving of the PGA Player of the Year, both peaking at different times of the year, but both also showing strong throughout the year. Wil Zalatoris is my pick for coming into his own in 2023. His game is just too solid to ignore and with the first win under his belt, I see much more confidence when the pressure is on next year. I'm also keeping an eye on Theegala. His game impresses me. Dylan Wu, a member from my last club, had his rookie year on the big tour, but failed to keep his card. I look to see him do well on the KF Tour and earn his card again.
  15. I was on my way to pick up a friend to go play golf. When I got to his house, he called me inside and watched the 2nd plane hit the tower.
  16. 3 birdies on the back 9 saved an otherwise mediocre day of ball striking. 42 on the front and 37 on the back for a 79. My shot of the round was an 80 yard bump and run with a 7 iron to keep it low under an overhanging branch. It rolled out nicely and came to rest about a foot from the pin to save par. My glory was short lived, however, when a team mate holed out his wedge from the fairway from 75 yards for birdie.
  17. Our weekly MGA game was a shamble today--4 man team playing 2 best net ball. I wasn't hitting the ball too cleanly nor was I putting my best. Couldn't buy a birdie, although I did have several opportunities. I came in with an unofficial 79 (not for posting since it wasn't always my drive being used). Sadly, I wasn't the only one on the team not playing at their optimum. We came in about the middle of the pack. The group in front of us was painfully slow. We started on a par 3 (shotgun start) and by the time we got to the next tee box, they were still hitting their second shot...we waited on them all day. 4 1/2 hour round (which may not sound that bad to some of you, but it's very slow for a private course). Other groups were heading in and we still had 2 holes to play.
  18. Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs Village, AR .... the only private course in the village of 9 courses. The opening hole from the tips, 428 yards #7 Par 3 plays from 147 to 204 depending on tees (There are 4 sets of men's tees and 2 sets of forward tees). The forward tees play from 121 to 138 yards. This is looking back on the fairway of the par 5 #3. You can't see the tee boxes as it's a blind hole. 490 yards from the tees I play -- 589 from the tees that the Nationwide Tour played from when they used to play here. Speaking of the Nationwide Tour, Golf Digest named the hole "The Monster". A 619 yard par 5 from the tips!!! #11 (Us mere mortals play it from either 550 or 530 depending on tee choice. The forward set of men's tees is considerably shorter at 495 yards. Ladies, you can tee it up at either 490 or 439 yards. And, finally, a view from the finishing hole green. A par 5 with tiered green. My house is on this hole overlooking the forward most tee box. It's a great course and I've really enjoyed getting to know it since moving here 9 months ago. The greens are bent grass and the fairways are a hybrid zoysia mix.
  19. Good day on the course today. My team didn't fare well, but I shot well. I bogeyed #8 when my approach shot found the sand to shoot 37 on the front. A birdie on 10 got me back to even....then.... 5 bogeys in a row and I'm thinking "come on, Carl...don't let this round get away from you". Birdie on the par 3 16th hole and followed up by a par on 17 and 18 to come in with a 39 on the back. 76 for the round. My best score on this course (9 months of play since moving here). @dlow206great job blasting past 90! My mantra for approach shots to take enough club to hit anywhere from the center of the green to the back, with more emphasis on the back portion. I find myself hitting a lot more GIR with that approach than flag hunting. Again, well done on your PBs! I know you've been working hard to get there. Keep it up!
  20. We have a zoysia hybrid rough and the lies are very similar. Doesn't look all that bad until you ball nestles down to the bottom and you can hardly see it, much less make good contact on it. Really makes the fairways that much more desired off the tee!
  21. Morning game was rained out, but I did join a couple of guys to play 9 later. They played the tees forward of my usual tees, so since it was just the 3 of us, those are the tees that I played. The difference between the tees that I play and the ones just behind me aren't that great, but the next set forward is obvious. There are several holes that require me to use a long hybrid or more from my tees....today, I was hitting short irons into the greens. Still managed to screw up a hole when I hit a hosel rocket with my wedge. Shot 38 for the 9. I'll be staying on my usual tees for the foreseeable future as I think it's the best fit for me at this point.
  22. You ARE old (grinning, ducking, and running)
  23. 2 chunked chips led to 2 bad holes. Started off a bit slow today, but finished strong and shot an 82 -- no birdies. Later, I played 9 with my wife and another couple. My wife is new to golf and recorded her first round score shooting 79 on 9 holes. She needs to establish a handicap so we counted every stroke. Actually, she hits the ball very well off the tee, but struggles with a steep swing and movement on fairway shots and hits the ground first or misses completely (and yes, we counted the misses). I'm not allowed to give her any advice or comment other than "good shot" or other positive comments. She's taking lessons and doesn't want to hear from me. I know better! Anyway, I played a set of tees back further than I typically play since that's where the other guy was playing from. Other than 2 bad holes where I took a double from a 3 putt and a triple from an OB out of the green side trap, I shot a 41. 2 birds helped. Interestingly, I actually hit the ball further from the back tees than I typically do from the next tees forward. Maybe because I was looser and freer with my swing with the more relaxed atmosphere and having played 18 holes earlier.
  24. Final day of our Ryder Cup matches and it was 12 singles matches for 12 points on the line. Going into the singles, team Purple is ahead by 5 points. I was in the first group. The matches were paired with golfers of similar abilities and scores were gross with no strokes given. After pushing the first hole, I promptly lost the next 3 holes then lost another hole on #8 to be 4 down with 10 to play. I parred #9 to finally win a hole and I'm 3 down at the turn. I knuckled down and fought my way back and at the end of the 16th hole we were all square. We push the next hole and tee off on 18. My opponent hits a monster drive, easily 50 yards ahead of me in the fairway (par 5). I hit my next shot and it drifts down into a hollow in the rough about 114 yards from the elevated green. My opponent finds the fairway inside of 100 yards. I hit my shot pin high, but I pushed it to the right enough to be just off the fringe in some light rough. My opponent strikes his ball and it goes above the hole, leaving himself a downhill putt of 7 feet or so. Taking no chances, I opt to put from off the green and it falls about 4 feet below the pin. My opponent misses his birdie putt and I concede his par putt. I drain my putt to be all square and split the point. So, I overcame a 4 shot deficit by hitting 10 straight pars shooting a 42 on the front and a 36 on the back! Team Purple went on the win the trophy 27-21. That's me in the back row 3rd from the left
