  1. So sorry...but, do yourself a solid and don't take the chance of being too late to be able to see her, if at all possible.
  2. I'm fortunate enough that my vision (post lasik surgery) is such that I no longer need to wear bifocals outside and only need readers indoors. However, prior to that I tried wearing progressive line lenses on the course -- gave me fits as I'd see some wave like progressions. putting ... wasn't so bad with the swing, but the transition was right in the line of sight during putting. To be fair, I only tried it one or two times before realizing that I didn't need to wear glasses playing golf. Here I am on the cusp of being 70 and still have pretty good vision (except for anything inside arm's length unless I have really good light). However, I do play in sunglasses frequently, but they're non-prescription and not what was being asked about.
  3. Inexcusable for a 3some to take 4 hours to play 18 holes of golf!
  4. Probably even lower now with the GHIN change and only counting 8 of the last 20. Most mid handicap players really saw their "course handicap" drop since the change. What I dislike most about the new GHIN system is the soft capping when your handicap rises over 3 points over the previous 52 weeks. While I understand the concept to minimize the sandbagging, it penalizes the guy who legitimately had a handicap rise because of injuries or moving to a new and more difficult home course. Oh well! I used to play with a guy that had the same handicap as me. We'd always have a $5 Nassau and I'd win 7 of 10 times. My scores were typically fairly constant while his were all over the place.
  5. OBSESSIONS A psychologist was conducting group therapy with a class of young mothers and their children; "You all have obsessions." he told them. To one mother he told her that she was obsessed with eating so you named your daughter Candy. To another mother he said, "you are obsessed with money. It manifests itself in your child's name Penny." To another he said "Your obsession is alcohol, you named your child Brandy." At this point one mother arose quickly to her feet, took her son by the hand and whispered, "Come on Dick, this guy has no idea what he is talking about. Lets go pick up Peter and Willy at school"!!
  6. During a church service, the pastor asked if anyone in the congregation would like to express praise for answered prayers. Suzie stood and walked to the podium. She said, “Two months ago, my husband, Phil, had a terrible bicycle accident and his scrotum was crushed.” There was a muffled gasp from the men in the congregation. “Phil was unable to hold me or the children,” she went on, “and every move caused him terrible pain. We prayed as the doctors performed a delicate operation, and they were able to reconstruct the crushed remnants of Phil’s scrotum, using wire to reinforce and shape it.” The men in the congregation cringed and squirmed uncomfortably. “Now,” she announced in a quivering voice, “thank the Lord, Phil is out of the hospital and the doctors say that with time, his scrotum should recover completely.” All the men sighed with relief. The pastor rose and asked if anyone else had something to say. A man stood up and walked slowly to the podium. He said, “I’m Phil.” The entire congregation held its breath. “I just want to tell my wife the word is sternum.”
  7. Hacked around today. Actually, was striking the ball okay, but the putting stroke was meh. Just wasn't really focused and committed for some reason. Greens are still running slower than usual for our course and the breaks are different. Shot an 83, which is actually better than it felt. Better get my act together with the club championship coming next weekend.
  8. I try to setup with my eyes just inside the ball's center
  9. Without assessing the lie, I can't answer the question.
  10. I feel your pain! While we're about 5 degrees cooler here, it's still h.o.t. Add the smoke to the mix and it's no picnic!
  11. I cancelled my round this morning, much to the dismay of my die-hard playing partner. The air quality index is in the "unhealthy" zone due to all the mega-fires surrounding our area. I saw no need to go out in that crap.
  12. I use Snell MTB-X balls. I like the distance and green performance of the ball.
  13. All of my grips are the same throughout my clubs. I like the MCC+4 midsize grip.
  14. The Callaway Apex line is the first set of Callaway irons that I liked the look of from address position (or maybe they've grown on me and their performance has overridden my eyesight). The original Big Bertha irons remind me of that Lego I was talking about
  15. I've never liked thick top lines or clunky looking clubs. Give me thin top lines and clean looks on the club every time! Doesn't have to be a blade, but I don't want a Lego block on the end of the shaft!
  16. When I receive my 5 dozen order from Snell, I also pull them out to mark them, but then I put them back in the sleeves, but each ball will have a different number for each sleeve. I prefer to have them in sleeves so that I can grab a sleeve or 2 before heading to the course when I want to replace some balls (my bag is stowed at the club, not at home or in my car). It's easier to carry 1 or 2 sleeves than loose balls.
  17. Back in the 70's, I was in the Navy. One of the older guys (lol...older being that he was probably in his early 30s...but I was 21-22, so anyone was older!!!!) ... anyway, one of the guys had terrible scar tissue on his arms from having tats laser removed. Bear in mind that tats were very different then than today...mostly all black ink. But, because of him, I never had the desire to get a tattoo, despite the fact that sailors at that time tended to get tats routinely. Today, it's a totally different attitude about tats and those getting them. To this day, I still have no desire to have tats. Don't care if anyone else gets them...that's their choice, but sometimes I wonder about their choices of design. I'm not a fan of face piercings on either guys or girls, tho....I'm an old fart. I do like to keep my ball clean, though. Feel free to play with dirty ones, if you wish.
  18. A lackluster round today, shooting a 40/42. Our greenskeeper is really pouring the water to our course and it's soggy and the greens soft and slow. I always seem to struggle with my putter on slow greens and today was no exception. Ball striking was mediocre today, as well. Nothing to blame there except myself.
  19. Congrats on the Eagle. Surprised that it's your first with your handicap!
  20. What @DaveP043 said, and more. It's so personal that there's no way to address it as a blanket guide. I can tell you that, for me, club membership pays off in the long run. Intrinsic values such as speed of play, availability of tee times, practice areas, other members, location in proximity to home, etc are all things that helped make my decision to play at a private club over one or several of the public courses in the area.
  21. While most putting issues are user driven, an improper putter can actually be a part of the problem. Maybe you're using a face balanced putter when a toe hang might be a better choice. Maybe the putter is too long or too short for you to get a good address over the ball. This is not to say that you can't putt well with just about any putter or that you could adapt to a less than perfect fit putter, but a fitting certainly won't hurt your game and it will more likely make things easier in the long run.
  22. As long as the owner cleans up after the dog and the dog isn't running amok and disturbing other players, I have no issues with it on a small basis. Of course, I could see problems if it were the norm.
  23. Yep. As I've aged, I've found this to be more and more of an issue. It's difficult for me to practice chipping and putting for extended periods unless I'm actively taking time between shots. This has actually aided my practice routine as I'm less likely to keep hitting a bunch of balls from the same spot to the same hole. I've gone to a better method for, not only my back, but my effectiveness of the practice, as well. When practicing putting, I now only have one ball to work with, which forces me to move more often between shots. When practicing chipping, I quit putting 25 balls in a heap and chipping ball after ball and have gone to tossing the balls in various locations around the practice green, again helping with the effectiveness of my practice. Even doing this improved method, my back will still begin to act up on me and I'll have to shorten my desired time of practice.
