with you on this one! Have you ever had ribbed or reminder grips installed? Those too can put me in a real tizzy if not perfect. Seems like a new trend in this category is “align” grips. Still can’t deal with them because being a little off makes me quiver!

Y’all are way more innovative than me! I guess I need to tinker more. Haven’t had the balls to DIY much of my equipment, but I also don’t have a garage with the appropriate equipment. I do have a pretty good relationship with my club builder though! He’s always shocked when I can feel the difference of a few CPMs, Or one less wrap on the grip when he messes up. But I’m kinda a freak. Anyone else able to feel these little things?

Thank you! Yea SW does seem like a very fickle thing let alone overall weight! That guy in the video is obviously way outside of the range of normal as he was flying it 300 and barely missing the center of the face. It was interesting however how the shorter driver needed to be significantly heavier (in overall weight) to retain a similar swing weight. And that was only cutting off 1.5 inches. Gotta admit it’s really making me wonder if I’d benefit from a shorter driver! I’ve always liked heavier overall weight for control.

Has anyone tried any of the custom shoes out there? Definitely like the idea of having some Of my favorite sneakers turned into golf shoes, just unsure how well it goes. any thoughts, or suggested vendors?

Thanks for posting this! Interesting how they said 9 SW light was “unplayable”.What I don’t know is what the ideal/correct SW is for most players, and if it truly differs that much . It seems like ~D3 is what most manufacturers shoot for, but to consil’s point, what if that is not correct for a certain player? Do some players benefit from a C 5 SW? I’ve never heard of that, but by no means have I seen enough players (Too small of sample size) to feel good about saying it is very rare. any thoughts? Also, If I may: How do you post videos from outside sources? I actually tried to keep getting a “Forbidden”errorI’m kinda new here. So please forgive the question

Sorry for not qualifying. Alot of this Is just my opinion, but I thought that was implied considering we’re in an online forum lol. What “absolute” did you feel like was off? If I may, swing weight is absolute. It’s a measurement, and it will go down when you reduce a clubs length (keeping all else the same including the scale you are using to measure it). It’s also absolute that you will change the dynamics (kick point) of the shaft if you only butt cut. This effect will increase the more you cut off. It’s also an absolute that the flex of the club will change of you add weight to the head after butt cutting (this is measured through cycles per minute not the R, S,X labels on shafts) The effect on flex will also be correlated to the amount cut off and the amount of weight Added. Hence my statement that it’s a danger with cutting off too much. That being said, I agree that sensitivity to these changes (swing weight, flex, kick point, etc) is variable. For example, most cannot feel a 1 swing weight, but most CAN feel 9. There’s empirical evidence to back this up. A yet undiscussed factor of this “danger” is performance. Even if you can’t feel these effects, they are effecting the clubs performance. For example a club that is 9 SWs light will inherently be harder to control for the same player with the same swing, due to the effects of various force vectors. Very thought provoking stuff! Yea, you must keep the swing weight (SW) in tact. It’s probably very “head light now”. the shop that did It “should” have mixed in some tungsten with the epoxy or added the tape for you. How long was it before? If you cut it .5” it will be off by 3 SW, but if you cut it a full inch, it will be off by 6SW Part of the danger with cutting and adding the weight because it messes up the flex of the shaft too. Good club makers can adjust the grip weight too, but gotta get a good OEM shaft and trim it from both sides. You can’t just cut the butt and home it works.

Very true. I think this would happen very often for the mid handicapper. I don’t think the gains would be as big for a total hack just because consistency is such a big issue already Also makes me wonder if more people shouldn’t go the 1 length route. Thoughts?

agree. The only way to do it is to get fit and see the empirical results! I was more posting as a response go the thread which had already mentioned it’s VERY hard to get access to a fitting bay with many lengths. I had the guy that’s on the couch reading this or who is thinking of ordering a driver, or cutting one off in their garage in mind . had online had luck with trying out shafts in variable lengths? I’ve been to some very good facilities and really only have a few in 44.5

Does this thing stand on its own? What’s its loft? I game the Odyssey No7 with a similar grip and have been thinking of going with a counterbalanced option. What distances the EVNroll from that option?

I’ve liked a more “solid” feel to my woods rather than a “hollow” feel. I know some players think more hollow feels hotter and the sound it makes is more sexy. Another thing I’ve always emphasized is consistency which I can’t stress enough. I see you have all the same irons heads and shafts in your irons, so why not do the same for your woods? You should have your driver shaft be the lightest shaft in your bag (for speed) so for you i’d recommend a 55g Evenflow for the quickest fix. BUT, your hybrids and 3 wood are pretty out of wack. They are sooooo light compared to your irons. With your 110g iron shafts you’d typically want an 80-90gm shaft in your hybrid and a 70-80 g in your 3wood and a 60-70 g shaft in your driver. I’ve always used a general rule that 1” ~ 5yds. Chocking up an inch has been a tried and true method of taking off 1/2 club when in between clubs out there.

I can’t believe the average joe uses a stock Driver length. If anything everyone should be using 44”. I’ve almost always used the “old” standard length 45, but have experimented with 44.5. I liked it, but with how long 3woods go these days I’d just take that it I was actually hoping for a fairway seeker.

Hi everyone, Alex Schmitt here from San Francisco, CA. I’be been spectating for a while and finally getting involved. 1. I’ve been playing golf for about 25 years if I had to guess and for almost 20 competitively (I’m 32). I played the Junior Circuit, in College and still compete in amateur tournaments and club championships annually. I’m currently scratch, but want to get back to the days of scooting underpar regularly and in the 60s occasionally. 2. I love/ hate that all that matters is results and that on any given day anyone can win. 3. I am a huge gear junky and want to hear what people are playing and how it could benefit my game. Also very interested in testing clubs as I’ve always felt reviews were very important. 4. Born and raised in the SF Bay Area. Home course is The Olympic club RN, but still feels like The meadow Club is another one (I was a member there for 15 years) 5. Best thing about golf here is access to US open course (Olympic club lake) where I’m a member. The worst part definitely is the weather. Cold (I know not really cold, but still) and windy >50% of the time makes it play even tougher! 6. I’m a management consultant, so if everything is normal I get some Friday afternoon times in a weekly basis. 7.
