Worked on starting line last night by putting on a 4’ aluminum ruler. Results…

    EVNROLL ER5v 24/25
    Odyssey 2 Ball Ten S 23/25
The misses with both were pulls, which is my typical miss. I really like the gravity grip on the shorter putts, gives me confidence of having a square face.

I would say they are the real deal, if it wasn’t for testing head to head I don’t think I would believe anything could have beat it. But here we are lol

This afternoon I wanted to try a "Sound versus Feel" experiment between my ER7 and the ER11v. A few months back I read forum post on this topic. I wish I could find it again to give credit to the original poster. I wanted to do this because with my ears unencumbered my ER7 "feels" softer than the ER11v. There is a more discernable "click" to the ER11v when putted and that tells my brain it is a firmer "feeling" putter than my ER7. The ER11v putter head is made from black anodized 6061 aluminum and the ER7 putter head is made of 303 stainless steel.  For the “test” I put on my Anker Soundcore noise cancelling headphones and fired up the R.E.M. Eponymous album. (Is it still an album when its on your phone?) Then started putting. Without the sound of the ball striking putter, I could not feel a difference between the two putters. The real test I suppose would be to have identical grips on both putters then put on a blindfold and have someone hand me a putter and set me up in front of the ball.

My current putter is an Evnroll so I'm not much help here. But to your point,  I think using something reproducible like the pendulum, the face is well controlled. But in the hands of a golfer such as myself, I don't think I could consistently strike the ball at a given point on the putter face with the same delivered angles.  There are too many variables in my stroke to be honest. I relied on the tests from MGS when I decided to give the Evnroll putter try when I was on a putter search.

So the way I was planning on testing this is set up two tees just outside the putter head, then line up the ball heel side, center, and toe side. It’s not perfect because we are not robots, but as long as we don’t hit the tees, a trend should emerge, if there is one. What do you think about that?

I have a question for the other testers and forum at large.  Have you given any thought as to how best to assess the "sweet face/no dispersion" claims associated with the novel groove design?  I have done some heel/center/toe strike tests with my B61 and the ER5v and not seeing a definite trend. I've been doing a bit of research on this and came across this video of Guerin running comparison tests with the aid of a putt robot arm. This seems the only practical way to control face path in a consistent manner 🤔.  I think it's fair to say this is the key marketing claim associated with the Evnroll's, so I really want to figure out a way to test this.
In my case, I'm trying to compare the left (conventional putter) mishit example.  Thoughts???

And, as opposed to my 30 year old, groove-less B61, the Odyssey 2 Ball is of similar design and circa technology to the ER5v... so a much tougher H2H test IMO.  While direct comparisons with our current equipment isn't necessarily a product review objective, I personally feel doing so, far more often than not, provides valuable information.

Most days after work, weather permitting, I will go to the practice green to collect numbers. As I stated in my introduction, I thought it would be really tough to beat my Odyssey 2 Ball Triple Track S, it has by far been the best putter I have used so far... But as I collect more and more the Evnroll ER5v, is starting to pull away. I find it so much easier to align. There really is something to the groove technology, not only do I feel like every putt is going to fall, but the proximity to the hole on my misses is insanely tight, mostly tap ins. I am using a similar style as @fixyurdivot, 5 points around a hole at 5', 10' and 20'. I was really grinding over some of the 2nd putts on the 20 footers with the 2 Ball Ten S, I really do not want to 3 putt. The dispersion is easily twice as big for the Odyssey compared to the ER5v, and as of now it is really showing in the numbers as far as how much faster the Evnroll holes out compared to the Odyssey.

I got some time in yesterday, at Bridger Creek GC (Bozeman, MT), comparing my PING B61 and the ER5v.  They have a really nice practice green offering flat and course like contour putts.

As I mentioned in my intro, I will be using the MGS Hit Squad putter testing format How We Test Putters | MyGolfSpy but with a slight variation.  Instead of consecutive putts from a single location at 5', 10' and 20', I will use (5) balls spaced around the hole and do (5) replicates.  My reasoning for this is because putting consecutively from the same spot, one right after another, typically yields improved results - and not something we experience on the course.  Also, I like to move into position for a putt, similar to course play.  Maybe a bit wonky thought process here... I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

PXL_20210721_211018287.mp4 I was able to complete one replicate from all three distances, with both putters, counting up the total number of putts required for each of the 75 balls (150 total). I started on a second replicate but several folks showed up at the green and it got a bit crowed.  I will complete (3) of these replicates and calculate the strokes gained.  My early impression is two fold.  First I'm liking the overall feel of the ER5v and especially on lag putts.  It has a more solid feel.  Second, I'm gaining confidence on those knee-knocker putts.  Too early to know for sure but I seem to be missing fewer of in my two rounds of play.
I'm wondering if the larger volume head could be providing a bit more confidence?  Have any of you experienced that - having moved from a smaller to larger profile design?

I did a bit of putting practice this afternoon indoors on my PuttOUT Mat to the PuttOUT Pressure Putt Trainer. (I hardly ever get the ball to stay put but I do hit the target so my ball does return part way.)

This session did give me an opportunity to use the ball pick up feature on the ER11v. That is actually a nice touch that I initially did not give much attention but it works quite well.

I do prefer the sound/feel of the ER7 which is my current gamer but I am getting used to the sound/feel of the ER11v. If I was new to this putter though without comparing to the ER7 I don't know that I would mind it at all. The ER11v does feel better than my previous gamer, an Odyssey Metal X Milled #2.

Weather permitting I will have this out on the course again on Thursday. We've had some pretty torrential rains here recently and I can hear thunder as I type this up.
For the Seattle Area residents, notice the Mac & Jack's African Amber banner in the background. I do miss that brew.

I like this idea.  Put a marker spot on the ground to give reference as to where your put started or something and see how quickly a 15ft putt starts on the ground.

Yeah I play early, and yesterday would have been perfect. I didn’t think to get a picture, but as long as I’m putting on grass, I see no skipping at all. Next time I’m out early I’ll get some pictures

Got in a round this morning, and I average around 33 putts, and today I had 31. I left 4 right just a roll short dead center and a nasty lip out. Considering all greens still have dead spots from the Winter storm we had, it’s off to a very promising start.

So, on the maiden voyage from the ER5v in play, I made some clutch putts. One being a ~15 feet for birdie and a another from ~10 feet swinging putt to save par. Won my match and some 💰💰. Very promising start, rain is clearing this week so I will be getting on the practice green to start collecting data.
