I will be playing at least a couple of rounds during the Turkey Shoot week...  if you are planning to play, shall we team up?

If you are in... As Tin Cup would say...

Well, put 'er there, partner!  These two homeboys are gonna show the world what golf in South Texas is all about!

I haven't tried this facility out yet, but having an opportunity to play some holes after dark is definitely appealing to me 🙂 .  Years ago, I played a lighted course in Las Vegas (Angel Park I think) and it was a blast.  Has anyone else played any golf under the stadium lights???

I grew up in Tulsa and played both courses several times and playing late into the night on the lighted course was a great way for a youngster to spend an evening!

Deerwood in Kingwood.  That is where the "US OPEN" scenes were shot for Tin Cup 🙂  I think there is even a plaque where he hit the shots over the water on the way to a crowd pleasing 12 🙂  I haven't tried to make my way onto the course, but I want to!

I had no idea Tin Cup was filmed there! That makes it a must check this out situation for me 😜 I see that they have "outings" you can enquire about. Not sure if they are a completely private club or not. I have a feeling a group could probably get to play on certain days.

I've lived here in the Houston area for 16 years and knew nothing about this course and golf club!

I just realized that your profile pic is from Tin Cup!  Love it!!  So have you ever played Deerwood?  That is on my bucket list for sure.  I did play Tubac outside Nogales, AZ, so I have one of the movie courses used checked off 😉

Are you referring to the Deerwood in Texas or New Jersey? I have not played either one, but the Deerwood in Kingwood is not too far from me. I think I need to try it out!

  6. Played 18 today with the Proto 348, I normally play with Align XL -ProV1x. image.png.c4b2cb06eb2f6e4f817f90d20f02ed05.png

I did not draw a line on the Proto balls and it really affected my putting on the front nine. Missed 4 short putts I rarely miss.

But the good news is I didn't lose a ball today! Sometimes that is the saving grace of a round...when you don't score as well as you feel you should. And today was one of those days. The Proto 348 balls performed really well. My initial impression is that these balls go really HIGH...without losing any distance. This is subjective and I'll have to look at the data on arccos for the round for an object view, but I like the Proto 348 so far.

Headed to the course so I can chip with both for an hour before the round. Going to play the V1X first since I've gamed that ball for years and have the most familiarity with it.

If time permits I'll drop some V1s down from the same positions on the course to see if I can do some direct comparisons but I doubt it won't be crowded.

Gonna walk on to the munis a few times to play them against each other where I know I can "practice" during the round without being a jerk and holding folks' rounds up.

Btw, does anyone know if the 348/red number is in fact the V1X? And the 388/black is the regular V1? I'm assuming they didn't switch the number colors around, but they've done it in the past.

    I'm assuming the same Kory.

Is that a natural Eagle I see on the card???  That is awesome.  Also your long drive hole.  The planets aligned for you on that hole David!!

Yes! You are so right, I had missed three short putts in that front nine. So I was leaking oil and then sunk a 15 footer for eagle to save my round. That's what keeps you coming back🏌️‍♂️

Beautiful looking course... may have to take a road trip from Houston proper to check it out!!

It is a very well-maintained Municipal course! But it is heavily booked, you have to call over a week in advance to get a morning tee time. It is my home course and I play in the monthly handicap association tournaments. There is a course flyover that is really good on the website under course info and rates.

Titleist White Box ProV1 and ProV1x Prototype

Official MGS Member Testing By daviddvm

    Introduction

Hi guys and gals, great to be back reviewing for you all here at my home for golf MGS!

I live in a suburban city just outside Houston Texas. So this is a great time of year in this area to play golf. I should be able to play consistently throughout our testing period. I’ve played golf since junior high school. But I have only been able to play frequently and consistently the last 15 years of my 64 years! I’m 6’02” and weigh 200 lb.

This will be my third time involved in ball testing. The first ball testing I was involved in was 2019 after winning a Wilson D7 driver and a dozen Wilson Professional balls here in a MGS Masters Contest. This was an unofficial test but gave me my introduction to being a tester here at MGS.

In 2020 I was fortunate enough to be a tester for Bridgestone White Box Prototype Tour B RXS balls. I played the Bridgestone Tour B RXS up until this year. But changed to the Titleist -ProV1x to start 2022 after seeing the results of the most recent MGS Ball Tests. I will be evaluating these prototypes by their performance in my bag during actual play as tracked by Arccos. I have used arccos to track my play since 2019. I’m currently a 10 handicap, I drive the ball 240-250 on average, my ball flight is high fade hitting above 50% fairways, my area that needs the most work is approach with mid irons. I will start my testing with the new Titleist Proto balls this weekend with a little putting on the back porch BirdieBall Outdoor Putting Green.

Prototypes with my current gamer in the middle.
