  1. I hear you. If I was still playing the Rogue X irons, I'd be fine with the 52-56. The 0211 GW isn't as hot a face, and is 2* weaker, so that's making me think I don't need the 52? @chisag One thing I forgot to bring up as far as bending the 52 weak, it's the exact length as the 0211 GW, so I'm thinking 1* weak won't really change anything. Maybe delofting a 54 would be better?
  2. I'd be flying by the seat of my pants as far as distances go, Tom. I have my 52 and 56 yardages down, but the PGASS here, won't let you hit wedges in the bays (afraid of ceiling damage, lol). So I'm estimating how the 2* gap from 52-54 and 56-58 would work in my head. Interesting thought with the 60, I've never played higher than a 58 the last 10 years...
  3. Rick, if you look at our setups, you'll see my dilemma. you have a 5* gap with each wedge. With my current 48, 52, 56. I have a 4* spread. I could bend the 52 to 53 or a 54 to 53 if I had a 58 and get the same 5* you have, or jst see how the 54-58 works before bending. This is what I was just about to tell Rick P. I'm not as proficient with my wedges as a player on your level though... I'm not so sure I'd depend solely on the 58 around the green. the 53 (or 54) would be used for full swings and bunkers, and some green side shots also. It would probably become my work horse wedge. the 58 would be used for all those same shots, except not so much on full swings...
  4. I have a question for anyone who plays a 48* gap wedge, or those of you who are better at this wedge set up thing than I am... My Rogue X irons had a 46* gap wedge. The lofts were so strong in that set of irons, I had to give up something somewhere, so I used a 52* 56* setup at the bottom of my bag and dropped my 58*. The 52* - 56* gapped very well behind the 46*, but there were times I really missed having a 58* for short side bunker or flop shots around the green. I made do by opening up the 56, but... My question is, now that my GW is 48*, should I go 52-58 54-58 52-56 current set up I'm just wondering what you would do. It will be a painless switch financially, as I have over a month left on a 90 day playability with my current wedges. *** I should also note that the 0211 GW is a lot better to chip and pitch with than the Rogue X AW, which was very "hot" off the face. I find myself using the 0211 GW now for the greenside shots I was using my 52* for.***
  5. I know a lot of golfers. A lot. But I only know one person who's ever gone from what I would call a poor player to a very good one because of lessons. I'm a firm believer that unless you get very good instruction from when you began playing, you aren't going to get much better than you are after playing a few years. You might be able to tweak a few things, but once the muscle memory kicks in, your swing is your swing. Old habits are hard to break, especially in golf.
  6. LMAO I swear, I was thinking of you, what you might say if you saw that... The thing is, you've posted pictures of your gear before, so we all know you're legit. I don't know if you ever go on that other site, but I couldn't take it anymore. Even the women claim to hit 275 yard 3 woods, but need to "optimize my spin..."
  7. If I were you I'd list them on a PXG irons message board if there is one. You just know there's a guy there who has a $3500 set of heads he'd want to pair with those shafts... Or just list them on golfwrx BST. Everyone on that site claims to pay XX flex 130 gram steel or some other type of rebar shaft. I'm sure you might find someone there who will buy them, claiming "they're way too light and whippy for me, I'm getting these for my grandfather..."
  8. I'd emphasize the Masters thing, and ask double the normal retail price the shafts go for...
  9. You've not only gotten some very good advice here the last few days, you're sitting on found money with those Masters themed shafts. Don't turn your good fortune into bad. Sell the shafts, I'm sure you'll get a great price, Masters anything sells high. Be smart, take the money and run.
  10. Thanks, that's great information on the Tensei. Looking at that chart, I think I was correct about what would work best for me (the broken clock theory). My SS with the driver is low 90's on my best days now. I average 90-91 on most. I'd be willing to give the 70 a shot only because I have a pretty aggressive move, but yeah, the 80 would be above my pay grade I think.
  11. Ahh, okay. I'm not sure how that would compare with the Aerotech regular? Id assume the one I hit was a custom... either way, I think an 80 gram hybrid shaft might be too much for me. To be honest, I'm nervous about how the Atmos Black will perform on the course. I hit it very well on the sim, but at 73 grams. I think that's about as heavy as I'd like to go. I'm 66 years old, and I like the idea of a lighter shaft in my clubs. I want to say the Synergy in the X hybrid is 66 grams.
  12. Just my opinion, but the shafts in the Super Hybrid are kind of stout. The Super hybrids are great for very fast swingers, but don't sleep on the Rogue X hybrids, they're very long. About a month ago I was in the PGASS and they had a used 17* Super with the regular flex Aerotech shaft in it for a great price. I hit it on the sim, but even though it went dead straight, I couldn't elevate it enough to get more than 165-170 out of it. If you're looking for a "distance" hybrid that's really long, and easy to hit, check out the Rogue X 18* 3 hybrid. I hit mine 180 off the deck and 190 off a tee. I just picked up some new Cobra hybrids lofted at 19,21 and 24. I'm going to hit the 21* first and see how it gaps with my Rogue X 18*. I have a feeling that's what I'll end up keeping in the bag. I don't expect the Cobra 4 to go as far as my Rogue X 4 hybrid, but I'm thinking it will gap better with my 0211 5 iron. The X is too long. The Rogue X hybrids are a great combination of forgiveness and distance.
  13. First things first... I realize most guys in this thread are probably aware of this, but Callaway Preowned started their Black Friday sales today. There are some great deals to be had there right now. Speaking of which, I just finished setting up my second bag thanks to them. I just ordered a like new condition Epic Flash 3 wood with an Evenflow shaft for $126. I'll end up paying $40 bucks for it after return a Rogue 5 wood (failed experiment, I'm a 3 hybrid fan) If the Flash performs as well as my Rogue, I'll be vey happy, and will be all finished with my "second set". I have a Flash driver that I bought back in May when the head in my G400 Max cracked at the hosel. Ping was closed at the time due to covid and since I had no idea when they'd reopen, I needed to pick up another driver. My favorite ebay seller (KSouth) had the Flash brand new for $230 and it's right up there with the new 400 Max PING sent me in late June. So as of now, the 1st bag is what's in my Signature, and the "Long Island" bag will probably be made up of Epic Flash 10.5* Rogue 3 wood Rogue X 3&4 hybrids Rogue X 5-AW MD4 52* & 56* YES! Tracy putter
  14. Just past the entrance to my development on the main road (Hwy 17) there's a place called Alligator Adventure. It turns out the man who owns the Barefoot Golf complex built it as a place to put all the gators they "relocate" from the property. His son runs the place, and it's one of the most popular tourist attractions in town. (money goes to money...) We see them all the time down here. Some courses are loaded with them (Caledonia for example I saw over ten of them). I've been here almost 10 years now, and I've never seen nor heard of a gator attacking a golfer. Granted, there are probably stories of when it's happened, but I'd be willing to bet it was because the person was dumb enough to provoke the gator. One thing about living down here, you see all kinds of wildlife. Everything from black bears, panthers, eagles, hawks, gators, all kinds of snakes, and perhaps the ugliest animal I've ever seen, the turkey vulture. From what I've seen, if you don't bother them, they won't bother you...
  15. How are you doing with the new 710's, Rick? I'm breaking in a lot of new stuff all at once. Irons, wedges and putter, with new Cobra F9 hybrids on the way. It's been fun, but a bit of a roller coaster ride. I'm happy with everything so far, but I'm doing a lot of adjusting on the fly right now... not quite in a comfort zone yet.
  16. LOL... Is this good news or bad, Rick? I know a lot of the guys here love playing with the wives... I'm not that guy. The woman I'm seeing plays in the travel league I play on Thursdays. It's a really big group, 120 players, and about 20 are women. I actually asked her out in the clubhouse after the group finished about 3 years ago one of the first times she played with us. She used to get mad at me for not wanting to play with her or other couples. She claims to "drive the ball well, get her irons in the air, and putt very well". That all sounds great, right? The problem is, this group is very tightly flighted (for the men, anyway) and everyone's handicap is listed next to their name on the pairings sheet we're emailed each Tuesday night. She's always been between a 41 and 44, which I told her is amazing considering all the things she claims to do so well. (hard to believe I'm single, huh?) She's a great woman. Very attractive and really fun to spend time with. It's just golf is something I enjoy doing with my friends. I enjoy the ribbing, and putting some pesos on the line. She and I do a lot of stuff together, I'd just rather spend the 4 hours or so on the course with the boys, being an idiot amongst idiots.
  17. It really hasn't been much of a hassle (kind of fun actually), and fairly painless to my wallet. I loved the setup I had prior to getting the PXG irons, so I've been taking my time looking for the stuff I want to put in a bag with them. It's been easy doing it like this because I still like my "old" clubs, and have no desire to sell them yet.... it would be a lot more stressful if I hated them, and felt like I had to change them quickly. This just came down to a perfect storm of having won or been gifted a ton of PGASS gift cards, and getting bored with looking at the same stuff in the bag. When when I heard about the discounted pricing PXG has been offering, I took a flyer on the 0211's and the MMT shafts at $89 per. Once I knew they were keepers, I started burning the gift cards on new wedges, a Scotty and now the hybrids.
  18. I got what I think is a good a good deal from of all places, the PGASS. I've been looking to get hybrids to go with my 0211's, but I didn't want to spend the $200-275 new ones go for now. Well, the Superstore has the Cobra F9's on sale for $119 each. This is $50 cheaper than anywhere else for some reason. I went in yesterday and hit a used one, and liked it. This morning I planned on ordering the 3&4, but then decided at that price to get the 5 also. This used up almost all my gift card balances, but I'm thinking a 5 hybrid will be fun to mess around with. Not to mention, I'll have the 90 day playability, so why not? When I recently changed my irons, I kept my Rogue X hybrids in the bag. That was never going to be permanent however, as the plan was to keep a second set up on Long Island, and I want them to stay with my Rogue X irons. I also have two MD 4 wedges and Yes! Tracy putter in that 2nd bag already, so I'm getting there LOL.
  19. Again, we're on the same page here. The one thing we both should keep in mind though is "we" aren't the typical consumer when it comes to golf products. We're both a lot more aware of what's out there, the value in it, and the limits on club technology. The fact that we are talking tech and pricing on a golf message board, along with knowing of the DTC offerings available, probably sets us apart from 90% of those who buy clubs at retail. Just to take this a bit further, When I chose the PXG 0211's one factor was I knew when the time came when I'd look to move on from them, their resale or trade value would be a lot higher than the Callaway, and the Sub70 market would be almost non existent. Was that the determining factor? No, it wasn't, but I was aware of it, and weighed it, because I'd like to think I'm more of an educated consumer than most people (not those here) who walk into their local golf shop.
  20. The only issue I have with what you are saying is the part about used clubs becoming a lot cheaper when things return to normal. I'm more of the opinion, as the saying goes, "a rising tide lifts all boats" by that I mean as long as the cost of new equipment stays as high as it is, combined with OEMs tightening their inventory the way they have (examples like Taylormade, with their frequent releases and subsequent price blowouts are a thing of the past) the used club market pricing will remain high. Just look in this thread and you'll see another option... the 2 irons that people cited as "hits" were the DTC Sub 70's, and the PXG 0211's which have been on sale for $89 per as opposed to their prior $220. This shows the opportunity there for smaller direct to the consumer or companies willing to cut prices. As I was typing this, I realized that this year, when I was looking to change out of my irons, the three finalists, (all sets 5-GW) in order were the 0211's at $623, Apex 19's at $779 (30% off CPO discounted price in outlet condition), and the Sub70 699's at about $575. All three were priced way below normal OEM pricing. In fact buying the PXG 0211's 5-GW at the $623 price point allowed me to buy 2 new Vokey SM7 wedges, and still stay $300-500 under the price of comparable sets of the PING, Mizuno, Titleist and any other OEM's offerings. Not to mention the stock MMT shafts I got are a $50-70 upgrade with those companies.
  21. No, I think you make a very good point about the number of clubs available for sale at local golf courses. I've seen the same thing, and a lot of what I see there is at least two cycles old most of the time. When you think about it, I think the same can be sad for the brick and mortar golf stores. I know covid has a lot to do with it, but there are two PGASS's and a brand new Golf Galaxy (also two Dicks Sporting Goods and numerous mom and pops) within a 20 mile radius of me. Even they have a bare minimum of iron sets available. I think the trend has gone from keeping many very many sets in stock, to a fitting cart demo session then and then a custom order. Just a side note to this... 2020 has been a weird year. The lefty racks are almost completely empty, and have been for months. The right handed driver and woods sections are overflowing with product, even the '19 releases like the Epic Flash and G410 lines for example. I keep hearing about this boom in sales for the OEMs during this pandemic, but it's not apparent down here. Add in the fact that these companies were closed for so long, and the long wait time on orders when they opened? I'll be curious to see the bottom lines of these companies at years end.
  22. Agreed. Probably the biggest change I've ever made as far as putting goes was late this summer when I tried the Evnroll HB. I'd never really given a mallet a fair shake, just rolled them on a store, or practice green. The MOI thing intrigued me, so I used a good portion of a PGASS gift card balance on one. I knew right away (3 rounds) it just wasn't for me. the Yes! went back in the bag, and I used the playability guarantee to flip the Evnroll into the Scotty Newport 2.0. BTW I'm loving the Cameron… wasn't a fan of his recent inserts, but this milled face has really felt very nice. I trusted them to get the right weighting at my preferred 33.5" and I'm glad I did (they went heavy). Granted, these are early days, but it looks like the YES! Tracy might be going into semi-retirement up on Long Island. The old broad has been a work horse. She's earned a nice rest.
  23. I'd love it if you did something here to show us (me in particular, LOL) how this goes. Putting is by far the best part of my game, it makes up for a lot of my sins. I've always liked to play a 33.5" blade. I gamed a custom built a YES! Tracy for years (will never get rid of it) until just recently, when I experimented with a Stroke Lab Double Wide, an Evnroll HB and now a Cameron Select Newport 2.0. No reason, other than I'm looking to put together a second bag to keep up on Long Island because I don't want to sell my Rogue X irons and hybrids... I'll keep them up there in NY. I've never experimented with grips like the claw or in my (lefty) case right hand low. I prefer a pistol grip, but I've tried a Matador or Super Stroke 1.0 and liked both. The Flat Cat, or SS 3.0's aren't for me. neither are mallet style heads, it seems. The armlock intrigues me though. Everything about that method makes sense to me. Good luck!!!
  24. Agreed, it's very subjective. That's why I said I'd just go by what I've seen in bags. I think age and ability has a lot to do with it. The young sticks down here almost all play Titleist, with some mixing it up with a set of Mizuno irons. The middle aged and older tend to go Ping and Callaway. Callaway is weird though. Once they release a series on CPO, it's all over the place. For example, I was the rare guy dow here playing an Odyssey Stroke Lab putter (double wide) until they came onto CPO. Now you see a ton of them. More than anything else probably, except for maybe the Scotty's.
  25. Did you happen to get a picture of the girl in the skimpy bathing suit, Tony? Just wondering. It's not like we'd be interested in seeing anything like that...
