  1. They’ve raised their prices a bit this year, but they’re still pretty reasonable. I’ve never hit one of their clubs, but I’m very impressed with all the shaft options they offer.
  2. Man, I love the look of that club! If only I could delete my post from yesterday about having no interest in buying any new clubs….
  3. I took a few clubs from the top of my bag to PGASS today, so I could gauge my gapping and distances from my lowest FW down through my hybrids. I also wanted to see if my buddy who works there could tell me if I needed to adjust the settings on my Titleist 4&5 hybrids as their system is a little confusing to me. They’re really nice but I wondered if they were optimized. He did tweak the 24* a bit, and now it’s even better. Everything went pretty well, and I left there very happy with my bag set up. I actually have 3 other clubs, a driver, Hy-wood and putter I also really like as backups. My irons are at least as good, probably better than anything else I’ve tried, and my wedges are really the best I’ve played. My point? I’m in a rare place right now… I’m not looking to change a thing, and I have no interest in looking. The only club that interested me, and the only new release I’ve tried was the 430 Max driver, and my 425 (albeit a new one with a higher loft) beat it out. What am I going to do with all the money I’ll be saving?
  4. I got a chance yesterday to catch up in a few threads, and I saw you had some stuff going on.I hope everything is okay.
  5. Lol. Rick you and your Bacon Boys are finished with 9 and you’re posting about them when I’m having my coffee most mornings. Lol. Reading your recaps are a part of my breakfast ritual.
  6. That, and as @chisag said, getting to a proper impact position. You got a few good tips here, but the one stressing proper impact position is critical, imo. Early last season I went through an awful period of play with my irons and wedges, it was a nightmare. I saw a teacher who stressed that position to me. He had me stand frozen in place with the club and my weight in the proper spot until I knew exactly what it was and how it should feel. Then I took swings from 9 to 3 (I’m lefty) and hold my finish to feel the position again. From there I just hinged and increased the turn on my backswing and concentrated on what felt like keeping the club low on my follow through. Once it all became ingrained in my head, my golf swing was back. It’s funny, I had made that same move subconsciously for years and years playing sports (including golf) but when things go off the rails I sometimes take myself down such winding roads I can’t get back to the highway on my own. My best advice to you, or anyone is go see someone who can show you exactly WHAT THE PROPER IMPACT POSITION ACTUALLY IS. Once you know, you’ll be able to get to it very easily. Trying to figure it out on your own usually complicates things.
  7. I ended up canceling my first round back today due to it raining anll night and into the morning. Naturally the rain stopped just before my tee time. Ugh. CPO isn’t fun, but I’m dying to get out there and play.
  8. I’m not looking for a new set of irons, but your post and @ole gray talking about his New HD’s made me curious to browse around and put together a few sets I might be interested in. Wow! I knew I got a terrific deal when I picked up my Gen3’s for $99 each, but I had no idea how good, lol. Those HD’s 5-PW with recoil go for $1100 including tax as opposed to $599 (643 w/tax) for the E722’s. I’m sure the Taylormades are really nice, but over a grand for 6 entry level SGI irons is a lot of scratch, imo. If you decide not to go with the 722’s, I think you’re being very smart to research the DTC options. Good luck, and happy hunting!
  9. I’ve been doing a nice job staying out of the PGASS a 1/2 mile from me, so I haven’t seen those new SGI Stealth’s yet in person. From what I’ve read though, they have piqued my interest more than any other new iron release. I’m looking forward to your review. I know you’ve had plenty of experience with two versions of the Cleveland hybrid irons and would love to see how you think these TM’s match up.
  10. I’ve heard about actual lofts being off, but I had no idea they could be to that extent! I actually asked if I could buy the demo, since it’s a close out model now. The salesman said if it were any other OEM they would do it, but Ping is still offering custom orders on the 425 (along with the 430 obviously) so they wanted to hold onto it.
  11. I couldn’t agree more. After playing the G400 Max from the day it was released, I picked up a G425 Max last season when I switched to Senior flex and I loved it. I went to try the G430 Max with my buddy (he plays the Rogue ST Max) and he bought the 430, but I decided to stay with the 425. I did make one change however. They had a demo 425 10.5* head, and I was getting better results with it than my 9* turned up to 10*. That seemed strange so I went back again a few days later and tried it again. Same results, if anything the 10.5* was a little better the second time. I ended up trading my driver and ordering the 425, but it arrived with a splintered shaft (thanks FedEx). The replacement has been sitting in a FedEx location in Georgia for the past two days now, which increases my hatred for all things FedEx even more than I imagined possible.
  12. Carl, can you take a minute to answer a question for me? I’m looking at your sig, and our set ups are almost identical, except I have 4&5 hybrids and you carry only a 5. I just put my first ever 7wd in the bag and I’m not quite sure about the distance it will play yet. Does your 20* HW gap so well with your 5H you’re comfortable going with 13 clubs or have you just not yet found the one you like to put between them? My 7W seems to fly on a completely different (higher) trajectory than my 4H, which makes me think I’d like to keep both in regardless but if the distance ends up being the same, who knows?
  13. Have you tried the Tour Edge E722? We have an excellent fitter down here and he’s put a lot of my buddies in a set of these irons, and they all like them. I hit the 7i with the stock KBS shaft and it was very forgiving. It should give you a nice high ball flight and the distance you’d expect from a strong lofted SGI club. It’s a very nice looking club also. Tour Edge also offers a 30 day money back guarantee if you don’t like them, so it’s kind of a no lose proposition. EDIT I looked this morning and the TE website has them on close out now for $99 per club with the KBS graphite
  14. I’ve hardly touched my clubs since before the Holidays and tomorrow I’m going to hit the range to prepare for Saturday league play. The guys play year round down here and I just got back down from Long Island, so I’m not exactly a force to be reckoned with right now, lol. I have to decide whether I’m going to bag a brand new 7W (never hit one before) or my Hy-wood, and I’ll be hitting a 16.5* HL for the first time on the course that day. I was hoping my reshafted G425 would be here by now but that’s looking pretty unlikely.. That’s a lot of new stuff, and a rusty swing to bring into a money game, but it is what it is. Hopefully I’ll work out the kinks tomorrow and Friday, then hit the ground running.
  15. Oh yeah, that bag is sharp. Here’s the problem though Rick. You lived in my area for a while, and you like to play early. You put a white bag on a cart and play a wet course? That thing would look like an arctic camo bag after about 5 holes.
  16. I saw a WITB of Buffalo QB Josh Allen on another site, and loved the Oncore driver head cover he had. I play their golf balls, so I thought why not? I was surprised to see it was only $28, so I figured why not? It arrived yesterday and I love it. Here’s a pic of it in Josh’s bag.
  17. Congrats! I almost did the same thing with a Gen 5, but decided to go with the G425 w/Distanza in 10.5* (instead of the 9* I had been playing the past two years. The club arrived last week with a splintered shaft (thanks FedEx) so I’m thinking about 2-3 weeks before TGW and Ping get things sorted out. Which shaft did you go with, Riptide or Cypher? If there’s one thing that’s been annoying me with PXG lately it’s the lack of stock options available for guys with sub 90mph SS.
  18. I’m quoting the above post, just to give some context to what I’m about to tell you here…. 3 weeks ago, I decided to return the Rogue ST Max I have under it’s 90 day playability guarantee and order another G425 Max, which is what I had prior with the only difference being this time I’d get a 10.5* instead of a 9* Fortunately they let me hold onto the Rogue until my Ping arrived, because today the store called me and said that my club had arrived, but the box was damaged and the shaft had splintered. That’s 3 separate clubs, 3 broken shafts, one within 10 swings, one on the very first, and another that never even made it into my hands all within a month’s time. . Unbelievable… I couldn’t make this up if I tried.
  19. $99+ $20 shipping. I got him to take $10 off the shipping and $68 for the club. It came to about $85 total with tax. So the M2 3HL arrived today in perfect condition, head still in plastic and the original HC ( which he didn’t think he had) still in the sealed bag. I took it to our range and to be honest, it’s a strange club. Like with anything, I’m seeing some pros and cons already. Cons…. Despite the 16.5*loft the shaft is 3W length. It has a light Atmos 5A shaft, yet it feels very heavy compared to a lot of the clubs in my bag. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, just… different? It’s not the most forgiving club either, probably due to the shaft length. Pros… I hit about 20-25 balls with it, and I honestly don’t see much difference between the height I’d get with a normal 3W, maybe a tad higher and I didn’t seem to be getting much less distance than I would with a 15*. Obviously way too early to give more info than that, but like I said when I bought it, I stink with FWs, and I’ll only be using this once or twice most rounds so until another “bargain” comes along, this will be fine.
  20. I know you’re in New Zealand, but yeah, it’s the same down here in coastal Carolina. So many holes with water hazards and forced carries over environmental areas or swamplands. When I’m up on Long Island though I can sometimes go a few rounds with the same ball, as I play mostly parkland style courses, where unless you hit one deep into trees, you can almost always find it and have some type of shot.
  21. Matt, you’ve come long way here in the short time since we were chosen as testers for the LAB putters last year! I didn’t know about your “Spy promotion” until I saw this post, and the powers that be couldn’t have made a better choice. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this guy, besides the obvious outgoing personality and writing skills, Matt is one of the nicest people and upbeat people on the site. Although we were both first time testers here, he had many more computer type skills than I, and he was quick to reach out and offer me any help I might need. We had a great group of people in that test, but imo both our mod Tony and Matt were invaluable to me. Tony for his patience and guidance, and Matt for just being who he is!
  22. I’ll second this. I have been using a 2.5 for the past two years. I won a 2.5 14 way last summer in a scramble and although I’ve always preferred a 14 way, I just can’t bring myself to take this one out of the box and move on from my 4 way 2.5. It’s such a great golf bag. As you said, comfortable, light and fully functional.
  23. This game is so amazing. It’s the only one I can think of where a player of your level can be as frustrated as one at mine.
  24. Fujikara Atmos 5 which is 10g heavier than the 2 Cypher shafts.
