  1. For sure. One of the best things that I have seen is centerness of strike. This is such a huge factor in terms of speed control. The draw back is that my oldest is now nuking puts that she hadn't before. From what I can see, it is because she is consistently in the sweet spot where as it was sporadic before. Once she adjusts, she should be really improving the weakest part of her game.
  2. Not at all. Apologies if that is what was implied. I think it really exposed how loosey-goosey they were with their strokes. Tightening up the strokes made them uncomfortable but also better. I could adjust for arc but i have liked the results this way. Does that make sense?
  3. So far, I have not seen an appreciable improvement on my putting. That said, I have found it to be very useful for my 5th and 7th grade daughters. Static testing has seen them go from 0/10 and 1/10 to 2/10 and 3/10. The biggest thing that has improved for them is path and strike. The struggle is that they are both slight arc type putters and this is forcing them to be strait back and through. Not a bad thing, but it was certainly uncomfortable for a while. This is especially true for the 5th grader that loves an anser style but now is thinking she wants a mallet because she is closer to the hole.
  4. I have the OG Skytrak and the SC200. I like both for what they do. I love the ease and portability of the SC200. The ST is great for my garage simulator. The range and play and improve package are really good and are pretty accurate. My only complaints are that E6 does not play well with my unit and I have a lefty in my house so game play is a pain to switch and align every time. I will probably replace it in the next couple years with the Bushnell LP or Golfzon wave. The LP doesn't solve the lack of ambidexterity but it is more simple to flip around. The subscription price is similar to ST but I don have to rely on 3rd party software.
  5. I just got lucky and found a Tm 300 Mini at 11.5 with a Diamana 60S+ (stiff) in very good condition with the headcover in the used club bin at my local golf discount store. Marked 200, they gave it to me for 180, plus another $20 off for a veteran discount. So out the door for 160. Incredible deal. I bought it thinking I may flip it on Ebay....Then I hit it. You will have to take it out of my cold dead hands. HA!
  6. If you have been playing this game for a while, you probably have a few clubs that are still in your bag but shouldn't be, or you wish you still had for no reason other than reminiscing and reflecting. I have 3, but today, I will focus on Maria ( Named after Jose Maria Olazabal). The first is MacGregor TOURNEY 608 Tour Forged PMB 60° Chrome Wedge. I loved that thing. It was perfect. It was just right. Feel, grind, look, playability. I felt like Seve or Jose. Not lie too tight or pin too short sided. ( I was wrong of course, but that is what I thought). It was a sad day when I had to admit the grooves were more of an implication and a reality. I have never had another that came close. What is your nostalgia club?
  7. Not gonna lie, I have hit the current PXG line up and it is as good/better than anything out there in my area of needs. I would have to say PXG is my first with Srixon and Titleist as very close second. If we have to say full line-up with the ball and soft goods too, then it is Titleist all day.
  8. Current irons 9i is 149 carry on the nose 151.5 total (regular green conditions. This will vary with temp and humidity, moisture, score on the last hole, how mad I am at the group in front of me, beer/hotdog/water intake ratios... you know, the usual stuff.
  9. Brother, that position at the top is filthy. I bet you can generate some speed from there. As a guy that is 3" taller laying down, I am envious! Good luck with the quest and the tests! Cant wait to see and compare impressions and results.
  10. Thanks man. I think I am going to have to enlist the help of a parent or 2 each clinic to help with data collection piece. I don't want to get too distracted from giving individual feedback to those that are not part of the trial. Who knows. This is likely to evolve.
  11. Okay folks, here is a rough draft of my data collection tool for the True Stroke Putting Trainer. I am sure that I will keep tinkering with it but I think I am off to a good start.
  12. Thanks man, I have started putting together my data collection tool. I will probably keep tinkering with it. I will make another post in this thread with a link.
  13. Good morning all. I am testing out the True Stroke Putting Trainer for MGS. The practice thread seemed like an appropriate place to share this. I love gadgets so this should be a fun one. Here is a link to the the thread and my intro and testing plan post.
  14. Thanks man. I am looking forward to it. The True Stroke looks like it will address multiple flaws at once. I made something like this years ago. It was wood and not adjustable so... Anyway, I am pretty pumped to get going!
  15. Good Morning MGS Community, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you as one of the testers for the True Stroke Putting Trainer. My name is Tom but my MGS profile is Barley Spargewater. This is an homage to my love of homebrewing. This is my first review so here's to hoping that I do well and provide you with valuable information that may guide a future purchase. Putting is an area of the game that can account for half of our strokes in a round of golf and therefore an opportunity for most players to immediately lower their scores. There are a lot of putting specific training aids out there and I think I own most of them. My experience suggests that they all work but they do not work for everyone. My house is full of junior golfers and I teach short game for our CYC (Catholic Youth Council) section. I am uniquely positioned to get a great deal of testing done with the kids that I am working with. The plan for testing is as follows: Select 2-3 players per clinic (16-24 kids per week for the next 6 weeks) Ask them to hit 10 5-8’ putts and record the number made. Use the trainer for 5 minutes and then redo the test and record. Hit 10 putts from 20-25 feet record the avg proximity to the hole Use the trainer for 5 minutes, redo the test and record. I realize that there are other variables at play here but having this many kids using over the course of the next 6 weeks will give me a pretty large data set should provide demonstrable data that should at least hint at the efficacy of the device as well as the durability. Unboxing and initial impressions will be posted as soon as it is in my hands. Until then, Fairways and Greens, Tom (Barley Spargewater)
  16. Congrats! I cant wait to read the reviews and tester experience!
  17. In general, lower compression balls tend to be lower spin than their counterparts. For instance, Pro V1 is spins less than Pro V1X. The AVX is an excellent choice as well. Personally, I really like the Srixon XV. It isn't the longest ball out there but I like the spin profile it gives me off of longer clubs while maintaining a lot of green side control. Having said all that, you really need to Check out the MGS Ball test and buyers guide. Your question is a big one and there are a lot of factors that you need to consider and then probably test for yourself. Your swing speed, delivery, course conditions, budget, etc. all will play a role in your decision.
  18. Hi everyone, I recently commented on another thread and thought it may be a good idea to start a new one specific to practice games/drills etc. My focus tends to be on working with my own kids and players. Here are a couple of putting games that I like to do with my kids. 3, 10 putt rounds each of 3',4'.....8' The most makes each round wins a quarter. The overall winner of the 3 rounds gets a dollar. Ties are pushed. It is fun and adds a lot pressure. My 3 girls get into some heated battles! Horse: I place alignment stick in the green at 3' intervals and then slide a pool noodle over the stick. I generally make 4 -5 three foot spaces. Starting at 6' from the first noodle, the kids call their space. Standard "HORSE" rules apply. Wagon wheel: We set up tees in a 4' -6' circle around a hole. Player 1 attempts the first putt. If they make it they get to keep going. (Go till you miss.) If you miss you must make the comebacker to stay in your spot. If you 3 putt, you move back. It is now the next person's turn. The first person to complete the circle wins.
  19. In the winter, my daughters and I like to play a putting game. WE start at 3' and have 3 rounds of 10 putts. We track how many they make each round. Winner of each round gets a quarter. Winner of all 3 rounds gets a dollar. We repeat this in 1 foot increments to 8' It get s expensive but it is fun. I like it because it is adding a little pressure to their putts. Tomorrow we will do speed work and long clubs on the simulator.
  20. I know it is petty, but I hate it when people sit in their carts and fill out the score card while sitting by the green. DUDE! Just do this on the tee box. I actually get a kick out the "excuse on every shot" guy as long as they aren't slowing things down.
  21. I would add that investing in something like a swing caddie SC200 is a good idea too. Not only is it super portable, and easy to use, it is also pretty darn accurate. If you have and use some sort of personal launch monitor, you can have a much better idea of your tendencies going in to the fit. Quantifiable data that provides a baseline is a pretty helpful tool for you, the fitter, and your overall game. Knowing your numbers will only make you better. Think of it as having the Carfax printed off before you negotiate on a used vehicle. Just my 2 cents.
  22. Try this out. Seriously best I have tried and the price is amazing Here is a pic of my kid standing on the mat. it is 5'x10' but you cant see it all in the image. I got mine for under $400 shipped plus they gave a me a veteran's discount. It takes a regular tee, no fatigue, and poor strikes are punished accordingly. https://www.allturfmats.com/product-p/5x10ttgolf-atm.htm
  23. Hi all, I put in a Skytrak with an 8x10 bay. As typical, I laid down a couple layers of puzzle mat , covered it with AstroTurf from HD an started the search for my mat. I tried a few before I got it right and I thought I would share it here to maybe save some time and money for you. I ended getting the 5'x10' tee line turf from Allturf in Georgia. This is designed to be used outdoors on the backside of grass hitting areas at the range. I couldn't believe the price ($391!!) and quality. It will take a regular tee, super comfortable to hit from (no soreness) and it reacts appropriately to your contact. By that I mean, if you hit it fat, you can feel it and the ball flight is affected accordingly! Shipping was fast and they even gave me a veteran's discount. I could not be happier with the product, service, and overall customer experience. Here is the link! https://www.allturfmats.com/product-p/5x10ttgolf-atm.htm
