Have you tried Callaway Chrome soft ?? I used to play the hex chrome's a while back and that were pretty soft decently priced ball. There are a whole lot of options there these days though. I haven't had a chance to try them myself but I hear Vice makes some pretty good balls as well.

I have the Callaway HyperX that my wife bought me for my Birthday about 8 or 9 years ago and even to this day I love it. I usually go by the old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Sure there a lot of nice new drivers out there but I've tried a bunch of them and don't see enough improvement to compensate spending the money. If the older equipment works then there is no need to upgrade yet.

I would try cord grips. I know golf pride sells some nice ones, in my experience cord grips wear down at a much slower rate and provide great grip even in hot or wet conditions.

I am not a dad myself but for anyone out there that has little ones interested in getting into golf one thing that really helped accelerate my game at a young age was at the age of about 9 or 10 or so. I was ready for my set of full clubs, my grandfather had cut down and fitted me with a set of Ben Hogan Apex blades. Blades for a 9 year old??!! His thought process was that while it would be frustrating for a little while once I learned to hit those I could play literally any other iron you handed me. It may not work for everyone but it definitely helped me later on when I would go on to my next set of irons(ping i3) and then onto my current set(ping s55) it has made my ball striking 100x more accurate.

I've been playing since I could stand, my grandfather is to thank for that, LOL, so about 30 years or so. I am 34 and love every aspect of the game, my favorite being, although I do enjoy playing team sports as well, golf was that one sport that no matter if it's a game between friends or a tournament its just you against yourself out there. My favorite golfer is hands down Tiger Woods. I love the PNW region for golf because I will play in all weather I love the rain and it makes for beautiful green courses. My home course is Madrona Links in Gig Harbor WA it's right a around the corner, LOL
