  1. all of a sudden, my iron play is both most improved and most valuable. Switched to PRGR Nabla ID Tour Forged irons with their Tour Graphite Stiff (low torque) shafts (i’m 74) over the winter. Regained distance, able to flight, and hitting them super straight (hit 2 pins and stiffed another on last back nine). Hit 13 greens (usually a good 4 round total) on way to 71 (beat my age by 3) this week. Some of this has to do with good turf interaction from double cambered soles. More mass behind impact zone works better for me (don’t know why exactly as i’m not a good ball striker). For me, all of offset limiting over rotation and flight too high. To top it all, fantastic deal: traded even up for 2 old wedges and a Wilson Infinite putter (valued at $143). Moral of the story, worth trying a path less traveled.
  2. i’m sticking with PXG 0311 Gen 5 10.5 with Hazardus Smoke RDX Stiff. Straight, seems to keep up with 2023 Ping, Callaway and TM models i’ve tested for distance (driver the least of my problems).
  3. hate to brag, but…retired big box golf retail manager, club designer, certified fitter for Callaway/TM/Mizuno/Titleist/Edel/Ping, grew up working for a few famous Chicago area teaching pros, on HS state champion teams, played in US Am, and shot my age last 5 years. Play an eclectic mix of JDM irons and wedges, PXG driver, Cally UW fairways and modern Ping Prime Tyne or Low inspired Toney Penna Anniversary heel shafted putters. And…6 time National and 4 time World Masters javelin champion still competing against the college kids. So, a bit different.
  4. that cleared a lot up in terms of criteria and process. thanks, MGS for transparency and ongoing efforts to make our community sustainable
  5. The DP leadership has been admitting its struggles, particularly after losing so many marquee stars to LIV. LIV players are scurrying off to Asian Tour events to earn desperately desired OWGR points. PGA leaders are saying they want the LIV players to face some penalty before returning to PGA Tour. All these entities seem in favor of some sort of World Tour like the Super League in football/soccer. So here’s a simple, elegant, inclusive solution. It addresses each tour players’ needs while “growing the game.” LIV players are admitted back to the DP World Tour. Since there is already a well-received protocol for DP World leading point winners to get a PGA Tour card, since DP World Tour members are eligible for European Ryder Cup, since the DP World Tour spans the globe and having LiV stars playing in Africa, EU and AustralAsia would enhance the DP live and television draw, and since DP World Tour offers more OWGR points than the Asian Tour (and more than the zero LIV offers), LIV players can earn their way into the majors. This is not an easy or comfortable path back to the US Tour or the majors for LIV rebels, so those on the Policy Committee that want some penance, get it. Best of all, golf fans all over the world get a better product and some peace. Win, win, win, win. what do you think?
  6. i believe the gloves in various colors will be a gold mine for TM. Stand out from the stupidly uniform white on store racks. Hats and head covers will be profitable with Tiger faithful. From my experience in my last career in golf retail management, Mr Woods has a loyal following among a small percentage of golfers who don’t care about price points or fashion trends, in particular outside the US
  7. TM exec said Sun Day split because not every day is Sunday but we all want days that are sunny. It think it’s because you can’t trademark common words or combinations. Has to be unique to be granted by Patent and Trademark Office. IMO (being in the design, branding and marketing biz for 4 decades), line should have been named Red Sun Day. Red sunrise would have been a better, more aspirational logo. As it is, the logo’s broken lines have too many broken lines, like Tiger’s broken too many times. And FFS, the logo needs to be in red on every item. Somebody at TM really messed that up
  8. unless el Tigre can play 4 rounds at Augusta before May scheduled distribution of SDR, the marketing of the line will be fatally compromised. One appearance at Players, where making the cut would be a monumental shift in form for Eldridge, 6 weeks ahead of launch will not be enough to move premium pieces without huge advertising bridge to carry momentum into when the public can lay down their money. And that expenditure would doom the line to years of losses. Best thing TM can do is sign Rory to carry the exposure load and hope Tiger as an ambassador is enough.
  9. Courses where each hole is distinct and memorable (like Cypress Point, the Old and Castle Courses at St Andrews, Tobacco Road), that also require thinking on each shot, creativity for shots not experienced before. Enjoying the entire day for the fun, beauty, hospitality, and challenge turns good to great.
  10. PRGR ID Nabla Tour Forged 48 degree all the time. Depending on conditions: Akira 58 degree all purpose/travel; Bridgestone J33 58 on tight bermuda; Wilson Staff full face 56 and Forged 60 for soft, high rough courses.
  11. it’s been fun for me over the last 70 years. Besides the golf courses being among the most beautiful places on earths and always challenging (i never got people saying it a course is easy), there is always something new to try or improve each time i practice or play. That’s the key i see missing for those who aren’t having fun: they seem to believe they’re playing the freakin’ US Open, where every shot counts. How about just “playing?”
