Perk4142 got a reaction from WFWP91 in My sticks and my SWEET bag!
First of all I joined because there is no judging I’ve been told. I’m a high handicaper -16.8- with only Low 90’s swing speed. I am a 300lb disabled USMC veteran and recently retired inner city high school teacher. I now have more time to practice and play. Clubs are hard to fit for me.
I’m using Bridgetone J15’s. Irons 4-W with NS Pro shafts
Driver is the J815 with a Fubuki graphite Flex-S shaft 10.5°
Also the Bridgestone J15F 3W same Fubuki shaft 15° And a J15HY 5 W 23° withsame Fubuki shaft. BTW I lost the hearcover to my 5w and would love to get a replacement one. Any suggestions? I’ve tried Ebay and Amazon.
Putter is an Odyssey Backstrike Blade with SuperStroke grip. It’s an older model but I was “fitted” for it at one of the big box store chains. I like it but the ball doesn’t go in the hole so I think it’s broken.
Bag is a nice Bridgestone Tour Bag engraved with the name of a Golf Reality show I was cast member.
Thnx for reading.

How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?
I have played golf since I was about 3 years old when I started tagging along with my dad. I haven't kept a handicap for years just because I'm too cheap to pay for the service and since I have been moving around I haven't been a member at one golf course for long. When I kept my handicap I was +0.8. I usually shoot between 70-75. If the putter works it could be less and if I blow up it could be more.
What do you love about golf?
I love how it is never the same. You can never play it perfect. I love that you can take it extremely serious or have a party. There is not another sport with the history, growth and opportunity as this one.
What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?
I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to equipment. I want to know everything there is about the clubs. I think that is what I enjoyed the most when I was in the golf business. Long hours and low pay ended that career relatively quick. I miss having my hands on different equipment everyday and discussing it with others why I liked or disliked product.
Where are you from? What is your home course?
I am originally from St. Joseph, MO. I have moved around a bit and I'm currently in Quincy, IL. I played a lot last year at Westview Golf Course in Quincy, IL (Home of the Pepsi Little Peoples that has hosted junior golfers such as Tiger Woods and many others.) This year I have been branching out and trying all the little courses in the area.
What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?
The best things are the extremes in styles of golf. You can play a very classical country club one day and the other is you can play a farmer build country course that is only 9 holes. It is fun because you have to play entirely different styles of golf depending on where you go. The worst part that I have noticed about this area is lack of stroke play tournaments or even competitive tournaments. Everything is a scramble for a charity. There are not any two man or stroke play tournaments. At least I don't know about any of them.
What do you do for a living?
I am the General Manager of a street store for Fastenal in Hannibal, MO. We work a lot of hours so play during the week is limited. I make the best of it I can on weekends.
How’d you pick your user name?
huckle was part of a nickname as a child and of course we all love golf.

Perk4142 got a reaction from tony@CIC in Why can’t I find golf shirts that match tan cargo shorts?!
I know they say any color matches with tan but I just can’t see myself wearing pastels and fruity colors with tan cargo shorts just because. I’m 300 lbs. Every other golfer would see a huge easter egg driving a golf cart down the fairway. (Who am I kidding, driving down the rough weaving in and out of trees). It would be nice to actually have a shirt that has a little bit a tan trim or a tan line something to put together. Now I’m not looking for matchy matchy GarAnimals my mother bought when I was a kid, but a little style is nice. Any suggestions?

I think you're going to have a hard time finding shirts with tan trim or a tan line. While any color shirt will work with tan shorts, once you put a tan line on a shirt you will eliminate every pair or shorts except the exact color tan shorts as the line.
Like everyone above me mentioned just pick some colors you like and rock it. 3/4 of my golf wardrobe is various shades of blue because I love blue and it goes with just about any color shorts or pants. You can easily find some nice looking polo's without getting super flashy. In addition to the options mentioned above I shop a fair amount at globalgolf.com and budgetgolf.com. They always have last years shirts for a good price.

Look at your favorite profession sports teams for color combination ideas.

This 100%. I wear whatever I feel comfortable in. Most of the time that includes cargo shorts and a golf polo. If that bothers the people I am playing with that is their problem.
I base my colors on the temps for the day. Don't really care if they match, I'm not going to the course for a fashion show.

Black and navy are great fits. So it's white during the hot months.

If you're looking for style, I'd start by ditching the cargo shorts 😉
And there's no reason for you to have to have tan in your shirt to match your shorts. Every single color goes with tan. All of them.

I'll second that. I think they're great shirts for the price. You can wear just about any color with tan. One of my most common golf outfits is a pair of tan/khaki shorts with a solid red Under Armor polo. Simple.

For inexpensive shirts that are decent quality, look at the Ben Hogan line of golf shirts at Walmart.

Personally not a fan of cargo shorts but I digress. For your shirts stick with darker colors. Navy, black, grey, dark green, maroon/garnet, brown. They won't stand out and they should go well with the tan cargo shorts. Ping makes some nice shirts in more subdued colors.

Perk4142 reacted to Waazzupppp in Where to find TALL size golf-wear?
Last August I started my journey to lose 100 pounds. I was wearing 4x shirts and big pants. Now, 70 pounds into my loss, I'm down to an XLT shirt and normal pants, but that "T" part creates all sorts of crazy problems when shopping for golf clothing. I look around my local stores, which I love to support, only to find "stock sizes" and nothing in tall. I look around that store again and see that the majority of guys in there could easily be fitted into an XLT instead of a 2x, but they just wear the baggy clothing instead of what actually fits. As a "long torso" guy, it's frustrating to see that stores don't stock or manufacturers don't make decent Tall Size offerings. So, with that said, are there any golfers on here that shop XLT and if so, where do you find your best deals on good stuff?
I know JC Penny's has been a life saver for me and my new golf gear, but I'd love to find more places that offer better selections of Tall Sizes.

@golfertrb @russtopherb @tony@CIC @MaxEntropy The main reason is because that’s what was available. Got a hell of a deal on the iron set brand new. The hybrid, and wood I bought off someone and those are the shafts that came on them. Never really got fitted for anything except the driver. Because of my swing speed (mid 90s) I’m on the borderline between regular and stiff flex. The last set I had was some crap starter set that I used for 10-15 years. So I’m happy to have put this one together in a years time. 15 years from now I’ll probably get a set professionally fitted, but for now this one will work with some minor alterations here and there and maybe a set of blades a little sooner. Only time will tell...

I was wondering the same thing - was it just a thing of finding what works?

Interesting that you've got a regular flex shaft in the driver, stiff in the FW, and straight stiff in the hybrids. Just curious why the difference in shaft flex.

In a years time I’ve cut my average score down about 20-25 strokes per round. Shot an 88 yesterday on one of the tougher courses around my way. Would have been low 80’s if I didn’t get 3 penalties on two of the last three holes. So actually really happy with how far I’ve come in a years time.
