ncwoz got a reaction from bama no 1 in “Heads Up” Putting?
I'll second a recommendation for the pod, they have some great insights and are always sharing helpful information. I am intrigued by heads up putting as well, going to have to try it out on the putting green and see how I get along with it.

This^ 100%!
I'll play the random ProV1/V1X that I happen upon in the woods, and notice absolutely no difference with the Maxfli Tours. My mother in law is a big Costco fan so I usually get a box of Performance+ balls for Christmas as well - I'll pull those out for scrambles or more casual rounds, but they definitely spin a lot more and come up short for me. I lean on the "too spiny" side of the spectrum so that's not ideal for me, but any of my friends who need help keeping the ball in the air and are budget conscious I give them a sleeve or two to try.

Finally broke par. I have been playing pretty well lately and today the right combination of shots and luck happened.
Got off to a rocky start this morning as my opening hybrid faded a little too much and ended up underneath a pine tree. Took an unplayable and then promptly skulled my wedge over the green, leading to a pretty ugly double. But on No. 2 I hit a good iron from the tee and stuck my gap wedge to five feet for birdie. Tallied a second birdie on No. 3 by sticking a cut down 9 iron to five feet to erase the double and then a full 9 iron on No. 8 to five feet for birdie there to get back to under par.
The rest of the round was mostly scrambling, though I did have a few good looks from five feet for birdie on No. 9 and No. 12. I nearly chipped in for birdie on No. 13, nearly put a ball in the water on 14 but chunked out of some thick water-side rough and then nearly chipped in for birdie again. No. 15 is the easiest hole on the course and I hit a good 3 wood to right in front of the green and chipped to 2 feet for birdie.
The last three holes were... ahem... squirrely but I saved two two-putts from over 50 feet on 16 and 17, before hitting a pretty awful high right drive on 18 (OB left - was not going there!). Hit a chunky 8 iron from 150-something to hole high and then nearly chipped in for birdie again, leaving me with a nice little tap in for the 70.

... One of my 36yr old playin' pards has used ProV1x's since high school. I gave him a sleeve of Maxfli Tour X and he switched. He qualified for the AZ State Am and we had just received 2 dozen ProV1's each as an outing prize and I asked if he was gonna use them for the Am. He said no, he is used to the Maxfli Tour X and with something so important on the line he didn't wanna change. Can't get a better endorsement than that.

... Not to denigrate any opinions and personal findings but my educated guess is 99% of those not on tour couldn't tell the difference between ProV1, ProV1x, Maxfli Tour and Maxfli Tour X if there were no markings on the ball.

Started playing the Maxfli Tour X last year and have been testing against Pro V 1’s and can’t tell the difference off the tee box or approach shots. They spin very well on greens and can carry 250-270 on center hits. I’m retired now so I can’t justify paying $55+ for balls anymore…

Been on a decent little groove since the 4th of July and looking at my spreadsheet and Grint differentials I'm unofficially under a 5 - just barely - at 4.5, for what I think is the first time ever.
Been working really hard on a few swing keys/thoughts and four of my last six 18s at home have been 75s or 76s - that has certainly helped bring down the index a bit.
My putting has been a little rough at times, and I'm still susceptible to a blow up hole or two, but I finally feel like I'm making progress again.

ncwoz reacted to cnosil in CNosil - Journey to a better golf game
Another delayed update 🙂 Feel like my game has come back post surgery and having to miss 2 months of golf.
Driver: Continues to be a strong part of my game
Approach: While this is where I am losing the most strokes, my play has improved over the past monthish. Trying to maintain a consistent tempo through the set and "pausing" at the top of my backswing. Biggest negative is proximity to the hole; so I need a little more accuracy.
Short Game: after years of working on this aspect of my game I finally feel like I have a solid baseline stroke. Starting to get better with flight control but need to generate a bit more spin and learn distance control. Tendency is to hit the ball too far which is kind of opposite of what I used to do. Need to get the up/down rate rate a little higher; proximity is a little too far.
Putting: Still feel pretty good about my putting but this is an area. Because I find this area of the game interesting I am always trying to learn and see how I can get better. A little more inconsistent that I would like.
Scoring: Been playing some easier courses and my scores are reflecting that just not low enough 🙂 Still have too many blow up holes resulting in a couple of doubles per round.
Decided to put the shotscope tags back in my clubs. Here is my 2024 Strokes Gained against scratch golfer.

It's tough keeping up a good round once you've got one going!

Tweaked my back Sunday, enough that I was pretty on the fence about skipping golf league Monday night. Decided to give it a go, took a hole or two to warm up enough to be comfortable with a full swing. Managed to par the first couple holes with my mind mostly thinking about my back, until I got a little later into the round. Back started feeling much better, and I ended up parring the first 8 holes!
Hole 9 is a short uphill par 3, and I let my eyes get a little big. Little chunky and left it short, ended up with a bogey for 1 over on the day.
From not even sure I would play to a personal best on that 9! Biggest takeaway? I probably need to stop swinging full bore. 😅

For gloves I really enjoy the Kirkland. Grips I've done the Lamkin Crossline and Golf Pride Tour Velvet, like them both and don't have any distinguishing opinion between the two
