  1. I am a 20, but I'm also 73 years old...a 90 every 6 months if this is how the chart works~~It happens, just not sure how often. I'm now in the business of playing golf for fun, not necessarily for sport, primarily because most of my long term golfing friends are gone. I choose to play more often on "executive" courses (primarily around 3000 yards). One suggestion that's REALLY helped me on the regulation courses, was to find those that match my playing ability chart which states I should play those that are under 6000 yards. I WISH that I had played this way from the start, getting to a 10 hdcp became work and I forgot I was suppose to be having fun, back up at 15 was better. Age comes quickly everyone, remember this is a game that any fame and glory you may achieve are short lived and mostly goes unnoticed.
  2. I'm coming up on my 74th birthday in July...my younger 20-50yrs old self's routine was slamming my car into a parking space and running to the first tee, hopefully in time and then putting my shoes on when I could. I was a 10-12 hdcp then. NOW...I get to the course 45 minutes prior to tee. Load up my cart and prepare these rest (tees, divot tool, marker etc). That done, I have a 5 minute stretch and body movement routine. I'll putt until two holes have both my practice shots "in the leather-18 in." and I've putted BOTH IN on the second hole. I have that marked on my putter (money demands exact measurements)! IF the 1st hole goes well, great...if not it'll take 3-4 to get better. For reference, I hit my 20 degree hybrid in the air 180 yards. The rollout will vary as will my hdcp currently hovering around 20. The moral is, I'm happier PLAYING "the Game", wish it had happened earlier.
  3. So I'm playing a dog-leg right, short par 4 that, if done correctly?, you could cut the corner over the trees and the trap put right in the landing zone. Hit my drive, we "believed" the ball hit on the downslope, cut across the fairway in front of the green, ran through the greenside bunker...ending up about 2 feet from the wood fence lining the OB. At the time, 2 down on a press AND pressing the front, Yikes!! Couldn't putt or chip too short a swing and the trap's in the way. SO, a SW into the uneven wood fence, over the trap, hit the pin doing around 90mph...stopping 2 inches away. A gimmie birdie, our opponents devastated. That was 45 years ago, seems like only yesterday, it's still THAT CLEAR. Doing THIS, reminds me of my friends 2 sons, 7 &10 coming off a hole...the 10 yr old telling what happened on the hole they just finished~~the 7 yr old was keeping score, showed the card to his brother and said, "only room for the number, NOT THE STORY" it STILL makes me laugh.
  4. I'm 73, with a 14 divide cart bag. From putter front, 6,7,8,9 up the left side. 20, 23, 27 degree hybrids along the top, right side top to putter SW, AW, PW. Using middle 4 not normally in use. If I play a course over 5,500 yds (which I've been told is where my skill level is now) I'll bring my 3 wood. Short grass, means uncomplicated enjoyment. Since golf ruins a good walk, I ride...shade, seating and cup holders rule!!
  5. Par 5, dog leg left, trees all along the border of the landing area...heading all up hill to a 3 tier green. After thinking my drive was in the tree line, it ended up in the first cut. The pin was on the second tier and I knew it would take my 3 wood to reach. I flushed the shot, thinking everything depended on the roll out. As we got up to the front of the green, no ball...back and sides, nothing. I was getting in the cart to go back and one of friends decided to look in the cup~~SURPRISE! A double-eagle/albatross. I remember my hole in ones (5), but I still...FEEL the memory of that shot.
  6. For 12yrs, I was a member of El Camino Country Club, where they hold the Monday Q for Torrey Pines. Now at 72, I don't play "par 72's" much anymore but, I will play Arrowwood Golf Course and ECCC every once in a while, shooting high 80's/low 90's. BUT now my Home Course is Emerald Isle, a par 56, with a 4 handicap. All three courses are located in Oceanside, CA.
  7. Watching my friends paying for ProV1's and losing to MG C4's has been fun. When I started playing them the heat I took was a lot, NOT anymore. Not too long ago I put one of MG's Senior Balls in play (not tournament approved) just for giggles, they're LONG~~ after taking all the money, I had to come clean. Told them about the ball and refunded all of the money!! It was worth EVERY MINUTE. I've tried all 3 gloves and prefer one, but YOU CAN'T beat their prices, to find the one YOU like. I've got my eye on one of their Range Finders next.
