  1. Still working on ingraining some of the motor patterns. while they don't drastically look visually different, they do feel very different and its taking some timing to ingrain it. On the course, i've been hitting the ball more solidly in general, but definitely some of the old swing still comes out with the arms getting late. but by more solidly i mean better strikes and now im trying to figure out my distances with my irons. i've started carrying the ball over some greens, whereas i would normally be just on or short of the green with the same club on the same hole, with comparable conditions. scoring wise, i need to really work on my short game. i know about all of the stats about how the long game statistically has the most impact on scoring, but my short game really hurts me. i can easily be 20 yards off the green on my 3rd shot on a par 4 and end up with a 7. i did do a chipping lesson with monte recently, so i do know what i need to work on there, and i am making some gradual improvements. i am at the range about once a week where i can see actual ball flight
  2. Monte said im making some good progress on my swing, and i am trying mentally to celebrate the improvements and not dwell on the imperfections (but still put in the work to make improvements). I have made improvements in sequencing, and also a bit less of a right shoulder drop in the early downswing. In my latest lesson from Monte, what he had identified was that I was sorting of just turning through the shot on the downswing and not making an athletic move, so i need to move a little more down and in, into the shot.
  3. Was messing around with the iPing app today. Already sent in some data last week because I have my in-person Ping PLD custom fitting coming up and you send in iPing data so they can get a better initial understanding of your putting before you arrive. This was from today, not from the data sent it, but would be similiar. Overall "handicap" of 0.4
  4. My grip has been getting sloppy and sloppy grip for me causes a lot of inconsistency in ball striking. My right hand has been getting way too strong compared to how i intend to grip the club. I have sort of a distorted view visually of where I perceive the V on my right hand pointing vs. where it is pointed in reality. When I think my right hand grip is neutral to slightly strong, on video its actually pointed way outside my trail shoulder. When I perceive that the V is pointed towards my chin, on video its actually pointed to somewhere between my right ear and my right shoulder. No wonder I occasionally have been hitting some low snappy hooks off the tee, that happens when my right hand gets too strong.
  5. I've done much worse from a putter spending perspective and then there are guys who have spent 100x what i have spent on putters. I have seen guys in the Bettinardi group that have at least $100k worth of putters, as an example. i think if you define what your budget is upfront, you will find something that will work for you within that budget.
  6. i have had this type of problem quite often (if you want to call it a problem). in my opinion, there can be instances where the starting point (setup) is probably too flat or upright and cause certain manipulations to happen in the swing to attempt get the club into a good impact position. In my case, "stock" irons have the toe even more upright at setup than your picture due to my height and proportions being way below the meat of the bell curve for a male. For me, i always need my irons some amount flatter and shorter than any of the major OEM stock specs, and then combine that with the various lie angle tests mentioned above.
  7. sounds like we are on the topic of fairway woods
  8. I often see differing opinions on fitting first, lessons first, both at the same time, etc. The purpose of this thread is not to argue about that, everyone will have a different opinion. This is to address the concern that swing changes will drastically change someone's fit. This is only based on my own findings with my own swing and equipment. Over the past couple of years, I have been working on swing changes, and i will say that i have made some swing improvements that show up in terms of results on the course and results on a launch monitor. For example (approximations below, i could look up the exact data if needed) comparisons of my driver on Trackman a few years ago vs. a month ago: 2 years ago High spin: averaging high 3000s or even in the 4000s at about 96 to 100 mph swing speed Very negative AOA: -5ish Club path: very left, -6 to -7 A month ago Spin in an acceptable range on average: high 2000s at closer to 100 mph swing speed AOA still negative but less than before -2 to 0 on Trackman Club path: a few degrees negative -2ish As you can see the outputs of my swing have changed quite a bit. However the equipment that I fit into a few years ago vs. the equipment i fit into now hasn't drastically changes. I'm sure there have been some tweaks along the way, so i am not saying my fit is 100% the same, but those tweaks are only minor. My best driver fit is still the Epic Max LS / Rogue ST Max LS with my Autoflex 505X. I still play best in the 90ish gram iron shaft range in a Stiff (though "Stiff" is not an industry standard). i'm confident that as my swing continues to evolve (hopefully for the better), i don't think my equipment fit will change very much, unless something about my physical capability changes (ex. injury, aging, etc.).
  9. nice on the green dot adapter. i installed a red dot adapter, wanted mine to play flatter than standard.
  10. one of the worst ideas i have ever had, Iomic grips in white. love the grips, but my idea to purchase white was bad. shows dirt like no other. either i have to put up with the dirtiness, clean them after every round, or buy some new iomic grips in a different color
  11. Today i did some quick practice, not focused on anything technical related to the swing. The drill was have two balls, one lined up like normal, and one inside of it, with enough distance between the balls that if i make a center strike one the ball i am lined up with, the inside ball would stay in place. if i make a swing that would result in a toe hit, the inside ball would end up getting struck by some part of the club. for background, i am a serial toe hitter. don't think i have ever hit a ball off the heel with an iron ever (that's probably an overstatement, but its rare).
  12. i'm trying to decide if i still fit into the "young" age group or not i thought the Epic Max LS was a bomber, but i think the Rogue ST Max LS may be even more so, at least for me, on mishits
  13. i do want to maximize the distances i get out of my irons given other parameters are acceptable, such as spin, descent angle, etc. i would always prefer hitting a short iron in than a long iron.
  14. @Thin2win - on a more serious note than my Nike post, did you happen to test the Pro v1 left dash? i didn't see it but also haven't looked through every post.
  15. i tried to buy one, as a wall hanger type putter, but sold out by the time i was trying to get to the payment page
  16. i looked in my supply cabinet and had golf balls that i didn't know i had even bought
  17. On a more serious note than my other putter posts in the last few days, i am excited about being able to more specifically get fit for putter head material (carbon steel vs stainless) combined with milling options. have never had the opportunity to get to this level of fitting before using the same head style made by a single OEM but with the different options.
  18. no lol, that won't happen. A $150 putter could never be the best i ever used
  19. yep, lesson learned for me. i expected the feel off the face to be similar to the White Hot OG putters, but it definitely isn't the same feel for me.
  20. I would think its this as well. If there is some residual crap in there, the tape may not work as well.
  21. Been continuing to work on arm sequencing but came to an important realization today. Was thinking about why do I always hit the ball off the toe? Feel like I have never hit the ball off the heel of the club in my life (that is an exaggeration, but its a rare spot for me to hit). Sometimes I hit the ball so far off the toe that its shank-like (i call it the toe shank). I thought about this and realized that the hands need to be farther out towards the ball at impact than at address (or maybe hands farther away from the body at address is a better description). If the hands aren't farther away than your body at address, than your arms get jammed up against your body and it is likely the ball will be hit off the toe. This describes me to the tee. I watched some quick online resources to validate that this was correct. While this might seem obvious to everyone, it was never something that i even thought about or knew about, so I have been swinging with the wrong intent all along.
  22. I fit well into the White Hot OG #1WS blade, and was happy with it. Like a dummy, i traded it in for a Tri-Hot 5K, which I thought would be similar, it supposedly has the same insert. But it feels drastically different, nothing like the White Hot OG blade.
  23. The general answer is no a face balanced putter is not better suited for a strong arc. But, with everything in golf, the general answer doesn't mean that is what will work best for each individual. Potentially, if you have a strong arc and consistently leave the face open at impact, then a face balanced putter could be better. I have a pretty strong arc and i putt better with 1/2 toe hang.
