Okay major update... I know I missed the upload but with a baby on the way it takes priority... plus it is headed for 0 deg for the next 10 days here in Fort Worth which makes it darn near impossible to build a golf club...
how ever while I am waiting on a few things I’ll be able to attests get the looks part done.

I was comparing based on the market of the player they are going after from a lineup perspective. The 921 forged, is at best a border line players iron. It has more offset than the P770 and is much longer in blade length and IMO is the most players in the players distance category. Now Taylormade's marketing story is trying to re-brand the P770, but if you look at the P760 it was a technology driven CB much like the tour and t-100. TM is also trying to capture some of the PXG fruit with the hollow head remake. The MP lineup is the more traditional style club where the JPX is the more technology driven lineup. If you look at the Mizuno MP-20 MMC it looks like TM copied it from a forging and story perspective for the P7MC. Also because Mizuno has 2 iron lineups and TM/Titleist does not there could be some cross over comparison for sure. From a forgiveness perspective none of these clubs in reality are super forgiving. They are tour level clubs and require ball striking ability. TM is a marketing machine though and they are pitching the idea  of the P770 as maybe more of a players distance club that can be mixed with P790, but with out a doubt the P770 is a players iron just not one I would play.

Here is the Mizuno release press echoing what I am saying... rush ahead to like 47 min and listen in...

So the P family should all be out to test at a PGA store or Golf galaxy near you as of today... our full sets came in today but I took them for a whirl before our club building team started converting them into demo heads since TM only sends 7i in their fitting matrix...
it part of the job and kind of like a car... you can read about it on the web all you want but until you test drive it you really don’t know 100%... but it is def a perk when there is something I am interested in for sure...
as to the other part of the question... It’s hard to be objective with your self, but I can eliminate things a little quickly which helps narrow things down quicker. That being said I actually get fit by other fitters and I take their recommendations. I know the numbers I am trying to get and what I am trying to achieve which also helps. I trust 2-3 fitters near me and I go to them for different  parts of my bag since each is better at certain aspects...

Just finished testing all of the new P series family of irons. Tested 4-PW,AW ( AW P770 only). All were shafted with the stock KBS 130x in the sets and tested various shafts with the 7i fitting heads.
first KBS iron shafts have some cool new graphics but if you are thinking about these please get a fit. TM has added numerous no charge shafts with this launch that gave me much better results.
ill highlight a few things. First if you read Tony’s article about ditching your set PW apparently TM read it... the P7MB & P7MC PW’s were flat out amazing. I could work shots easily and play shots from 110-145 with ease that did exactly what I wanted them to do. I took it through a par 3 course with only 7i and PW (Plus my putter) and shot -6. They out performed my SM8 46 hands down. However apparently the P770 were already through production apparently before they read Tony’s article. They might have as well stamped a 10i and 11i instead on PW and AW. They are full shot club only.

Next it appears TM wants to go after Titleist and Mizuno and I’ll compare each of P series to what they are competing against (my opinion)
The P770 is going against the Titleist T-100 and T-100s & the Mizuno JPX 921 tour. From a looks perspective the Titleist and Mizuno are hands down better looking. The P770 top line is way to thick for a players iron. From that alone they are out of the running for my next set of irons. Feel is subjective, but I like to feel the ball compressing and with the P770 great strikes feel like the ball disappears which was my same complaint about the P790. Performance, was solid. Workability is better than advertised numbers are solid but more importantly they are consistent. No hot spots. Had to flatten them -2.5 degree since the 7i lie showed up at 63.5.
Now the P7MC. This is going after the Titleist 620CB and Mizuno MP-20 MMC. If you are looking for new irons any of these are a solid choice. The MMC have stronger lofts (7i 32deg) vs P7MC ( 7i 34deg) vs 620CB (7i 35). I see the MMC different vs. the Titleist and TM but I’ll digress. The P7MC were amazing and they will get a look when I change my irons. The only knock is in the long irons you need to be a ball striker. I would have to combo them with the P770 in the 4&5 where the Titleist and Mizuno I would not have to. These are legit irons and I could see a lot of pros switching to these.
P7MB, well they are blades. The design is cool and they feel well like a blade. I preferred the P7TW  because of the tungsten weight that offers some forgiveness much like the Ping blueprints. I could see some extreme combos with P770 4,5 P7MC 6,7 & P7MB 8,9PW. If your good enough to play these you don’t need my feedback lol 😆.
I game T-100 3-PW and right now I would not change for the P770’s. I will consider The P7MC 5-PW cause I can grab a U500 3i/4i or combo the P770 but I am waiting for the 921 tours to test too.

Side note... when testing the 7i’s I have never found an iron shaft that fits me better than the modus 120x/tx. I did test the Accra i124 MMT 125tx and the new project x io 6.5 and 7.0. The project x has a shot to go in my next set of irons... if you want to know more about any of these let me know.

First thank you to @Popeye64 for hooking me up with a maltby 7i and a brand new wedge.
please help me tag people who want to follow this that I am missing @Chip Strokes @dlow206 @Hotdocta @Popeye64
This has been a long time coming, but because of covid it took a long time to get a few single modus 125 wedge shaft and a few single modus 120TX 7i shaft so the playing field is as even as possible. I will be using fully built clubs and not club connex to give everything the fairest chance.
this will be broken down into 2 categories. Wedge and Iron. And of course this is subjective to me only, but if it performs I will give me honest opinion. Wedge will be first followed by irons incase we need to expand past the 7i for a better view
for the wedge the Maltby (56*) will be going up against my gamer the Mizuno T20 the new TW MG2 and what some would consider the holy grail the Mirua tour wedge. All will be built with a modus 125 wedge shaft lie angle bent to 62* and loft at 56*. Length will be 35.5”. Grip will be the NDMC black on black and swing weight will be made to D5.
    wedge scoring
    1. Launch monitor performance including the wet wedge test. I will rent a trackman and hit enough balls to get a good data set. This is the most important factor for me since I play in Texas. (35%)
    2. Bunker performance. I will film shots and post a video. Volvik was kind enough to donate 3 boxes of the new S4 balls in multiple colors so we can track and see the results clearly. Workability proximity to the hole durability etc will be how this is scored. (25%)
    3. on course performance. I will head to a par 3 course that has a 105 yard hole. 3/4 56 with my gammer I can carry 115 with 13k in spin. Same deal as the bunker, but will also factor in s*** shipping ability. (25%)
    4. Ease of assembly. This is important because many people who purchase maltby build themselves. I have taken everything apart to the component level. When I bend them I want to see how long everything stays in place. I will take before and after measurements. I figure it will have about 500 balls on it so should be a good test. (10%)
    5. This will be the first scoring but the least weighted. It is shelf appeal. While this is not the purpose major OEM’s use this to get us to buy. Also wedges are speciality clubs IMO and I don’t care as much about the look of I did I would not have the T20 as my gammer since it’s ugly. (5%)
    Iron scoring
This will be the same for the most part except the weighting will be a tad different. Specs will also be D3.5 playing at 37.25” lie angle of 61* loft will all be adjusted to 33* to standardize. Shaft will be the modus 120TX. Grip will be the either the Lamkin st-2 hybrid midsize or ts1 midsize since I will be out of the NDMC. Contestants will be the Maltby Ts1-forged vs my gamer the Mizuno mp20 MMC the honma tr20v srixon zx7 and maybe one more tbd. Stock carry at 34* loft is 186 yards. (My Mp20 mmc are -2 weak)
    1. Launch monitor. (25%) I don’t really care much about this with irons I just want to know carry & spin and shot grouping.
    2. bunker performance (anyone who knows my game knows I am a magnet for the fairway bunker). (Part of on course)
    3. On course performance. This will be the highest weighted category. The same par 3 course has a hole with a 190 yard pin in the middle which I would use a 7i they also have a hole with a 175 yard front pin which I would play a cut into also with a 7i. Will also hit a course and test approach shots and situations. (40%)
    4. Ease of assembly. (15%)
    5. Curb appeal. (20%) this is higher because of the overall cost of investment. It will also be the first category scored once I get all the heads in. This is also more important to me because the look has a lot to do with how you feel it might interact with the turf among other factors.
