  1. That's quite a plan @frazzman80! Can understand the busy-ness of this weekend. If I were in the same place on this test, my schedule would be almost identical. Looking foward to seeing pics and posts of these irons.
  2. Life w/Millie (AI-ONE 7S DB Milled): This putter continues to impress and keeps all the boxes ticked on what makes a putter great for me. For kicks and grins, I took Versa (7CS w/White hot face) out for a round the other day, just to see and I thoroughly regretted not taking Millie. Today, I began a new journey in which Millie will be very key in the process. I posted yesterday in the "practice thread" of having gotten in a dozen Snell MTB PRIME X balls (2023 closeout sale @ $20per dozen) and as I had most of a dozen of MTB PRIME balls as well, figured why not go head to head with the balls to see how they play from green to tee. With the rains of today being an outside washout, I spent time with the putting mat, Millie, the Snell balls and some of the competition - while that is a story for another thread, I want to say Millie did not disappoint in delivering the balls to the cup. One thing I noticed - the Snell's tend to talk more when the ball is struck off-center, more of a clicky sound when off center and a duller thud when on. Millie did not care as she would consistently keep the ball on track into or lipping by.
  3. Day 74 (27 Mar 24) - Got in some Snell MTB Prime X (2023 clearance @ $20/doz) - spent a few minutes hitting a few wedge shots comparing them to the MTB Primes on hand that were also clearance last fall. Thinking these may become an on the course test comparison…
  4. After being part of the Odyssey AI-One putter test (was on the Milled side), I can easily see how one could spend $500 for a putter. I have hit my other putters during and since the test and I can say the AI-One Milled is hands down the most consistent and predictable putter I’ve ever used. So for me, it would likely be that price point cap….
  5. Day 73 (26 Mar 24) - Our church men’s group began its 9 hole best ball season today. Was a fun round, had grandson as my cart partner - super time had by all as a 7 yr old is all energy and optimism!
  6. Edel SMS 7i update - This has turned into a long term test as Edel has offered let us test thru the season. Played the church men’s 9 hole best ball today with the 7i in the bag. Short pitches to full swings - the club delivered. Weight setup is 2-4-6 (heel to toe)…the club feels natural and the shot shaping capability is almost 2nd nature. This has only made me want to see an entire set of irons in the bag.
  7. Did you order yours in the recent get a 7i for $50 promo? I remember seeing the email, but since I already have a 7i w/KBS 95 Rflex, figured I don’t need two 7 irons. Will be interested to see how the Steelfiber shaft does…my test 7i will have its maiden trip in the men’s captain’s choice scramble this afternoon…report to follow.
  8. That sounds like me when I do gate drills - I am beginning to think the "urgency" of getting through the gate cleanly makes it much, much narrower. Millie update - she has been behaving nicely of late. I am looking forward to fresh growth grass greens and seeing how she performs there. More updates to come...
  9. Congrats - these are some intriguing putters, looking forward to seeing how your testing rolls along…
  10. Congrats folks - this should be a fun test to follow. It will be interesting to see how these irons compare to your current ones…
  11. Day 72 (25 Mar 24) - full day with project at home, managed to get some easy pitch shots in with the PW in the backyard this afternoon. Always like these mindless drills, where all I think about is a smooth tempo thru the ball…
  12. Yup! May have to start looking for one - for the time being will let the 4h cover l….
  13. Don’t have one “at the moment” - but all the love being shown this club has made me think about changing it up a little. I’ve had great success hitting my older 5w’s and especially the SLDR 3HL, thinking a 7w would fit nicely and replace my 4h living in that space….my son occasionally games his old r7 7w and loves it.
  14. Day 71 (24 Mar 24) - Got outside and hit off the Divot Board, rehearsing setup and follow thru. Had some fun hitting wedges off this rig.
  15. Day 70 (23 Mar 24) - soggy, saturated Saturday - mirror work rehearsing swing setup and weight shift into downswing…
  16. It has really helped me with weight shift and follow thru - especially as I have had to learn to “trust” my lead foot (motorcycle wreck took the toes/skin grafts in ‘16) to take weight transfer.
  17. Thanks - as much as I tinker with clubs, building a set would be a pretty straight up deal. Will mean coming to some decisions on head design, shafts, grips, etc. Time to ponder the GolfWorks catalogue.
  18. I should have been more accurate in the description, it is the "slap shot" drill (much like a hockey slap shot)...here is a link to one of the many videos on YouTube... At the end of the drill you will see how he moves from the open grip of a hockey stick to a golfer grip. I start with the hockey grip and allow the trail hand to collapse to the lead hand as I move through 'impact' into finish...
  19. Day 69 (22 Mar 24) - more work with the slap stick drill and the 58deg wedge.
  20. The recaps continue to impress and make the reviews a great read. Thanks for the hard work you (and the rest of the mods do) to take our thoughts and make them a cohesive read!
  21. This morning has been an interesting read in all things Maltby…I’ve been interested in their stuff for years (ever since my first GolfWorks catalogue) and have contemplated building some for the experience of a ground up build. Have done some shaft swaps, etc but really would like to take the next step. More reading to do - and - the thought a really nice custom set of clubs at a DTC price point is almost as intoxicating as “..name your poison here..”. Well time to dream some more.
  22. Day 68 (21 Mar 24) - Played solo round at one of the local courses today. As I was behind the Thurs regulars, pace was slower. Allowed me to hit a few extra balls into the greens. Overall a good day across the bag…
  23. Day 67 (20 Mar 24) - Today worked on feeling weight on lead foot in downswing. Rehearsed slap stick (left hand on grip, right on shaft) grip at top of swing and finishing with both hands at grip. This helps get the weight onto the lead foot.
  24. Under appreciated to me is along list: Wilson (seen as used to be great); Tour Edge (seen as has-been golfer clubs); Cleveland (great wedges, not much else); MacGregor (dead, now resurrected in DTC market, seen as name only); Maxfli (great ball seen as a “el-cheapie”); Top Flite (good balls, just can’t escape the “rock Flite” tattoo!)….yes, about any DTC brand out there…I love my INDI wedges even though they did not test well in MGS Most Wanted….
  25. March 18 update - This is when hitting wedges is fun….hitting some easy pitches with the 54 FlexS at about 22yds or so in the backyard to one of the three flag locations I have set up. Working on engaging the bounce and getting the ball to stop and drop. First couple of swings and I’ve got both less than a club length away. Hit the third and I hear clang of the flagstick as the ball disappears…feeling good about getting a lucky dunk. Hit another and it’s about 2’ short. The next one follows suit with the third one as the flagstick clanks and the ball disappears…I finish the group with a couple more in the single club length distance. It was after the second I wished I had been videoing my practice. All that to say the more I continue with these wedges the smaller the misses seem to be getting…now to just dunk some wedges for hole outs…
