If this is the case, the general recommendation is to get the set GW.  You can do specialty wedges but they generally spin more and launch higher so you may need something a stronger loft than you think.

I always gravitate toward set wedge because I don't really use 50 to chip. I do use it occasionally for bump and run if I want to get less run out than 8/9, which are my preferred b&r clubs. Good luck.

I would suggest tracking fairways hit more generously. Meaning, I consider it a fairway hit if I’m just off the fairway but still have a really good lie. Similarly, if I muff a drive and just barely reach the start of the fairway then I only count it if I still have a chance to reach the green with an iron. My rationale is the main purpose of counting fairways hit is to know how often your tee shot puts you in a good/scoring position. Doing this for a few months really changed the way I mentally approached the game and resulted in legitimately hitting more fairways. I have done the same thing with putting too. If I’m on the fringe but the fringe is cut so short that it doesn’t impair the putt then I’ll count it as a GIR. I don’t do these to pad my stats. I do it because I’m not a tour pro and my stats are only there for me to learn from.

Good call out.....makes sense to me.....the one stat I know this will change a lot is the fairway hit....I play a lot from within 5 feet of the fairway right. If I change the putt approach to be same as you....I dread to think what my actual putts per round were in '23....lol

  3. Any suggestions on game tracking stats to keep? What are you all doing to track/improve your game? My stats from '23 below.

Well, seems to be that I need to improve in just about all areas. Really glad to have the GHIN tracking to break it all down. Wish there were a few more stats on the APP, but overall I think it gives enough to see the opportunities in my game. The stats don't lie....

Driving: Need to work on club path to reduce L-R and hit more fairways. I'm not in trouble or OB a lot, but hit a lot of approaches from the rough.

Irons: Same as driver....out/in path and occasional fat is causing high % short/right outcomes.

Chipping: With the low GIR % last year I really need to be sharper. Need to work on using bounce more to get more consistent strikes. Need to focus more on landing point and visualize the shot.

Putting: Too many long putts (I think)....improved GIR and better proximity on chips should naturally improve this. Distance control on putts is good from 20 and in....I think.

Wish I knew my proximity stats on chips, so I could see how its impacting my putting stats. My gut tells me I'll get more out of practicing chips, then putting.....so that's what I plan to do.

    2024 Goals:

Driving: 50+% fairways. Missed L&R within 5% of each other.

Irons: 60%+GIR. <10% short and missing L same % or higher than missing right.

    Putts: 31, with 3 putts below 5%.

HCP Result: If I can improve on above stuff, HCP by end of season should definitely be <5.

Getting a new set of clubs this winter, and I was curious what everyone's though is on going with a wedge from a set versus a specialty wedge like a Vokey? What would be the reasons that would influence you to go with a 52 degree set wedge vs. a 52 Vokey?

I've done both, but always seem to come back to the set wedge for the gap wedge because I rarely use it to chip. Gap wedge has same iron shaft. My gap is typically a full or 3/4 shot....only occasional bump and run....since I prefer to use 9 or 8 for bump and runs. Good luck, no bad decision here

  5. Getting older....and just too much work to load the X100's in my second set.

Anyone ever SS 3x's to try to get close to a full flex reduction? I'd only have to buy one shaft since I have 2-PW, but would only look to reshaft/SS the 4-PW. Not looking for a match, but trying to get closer to S flex.

How did they play? Any comments appreciated.

I did the pw, 50,54,58 for years, but recently switches to pw, 52,58.  With 4 wedges one always seemed like the red headed step child.

Anyone else have comments on 3 v 4 wedge setup. I'm thinking to scrap the 54 & 58 and just go 56 (so 44, 50 and 56).....but would need to find a very versatile bounce/grind to play the different shots I hit w current 54 & 58.

    Any thoughts?
