How often everyone chooses to replace clubs has been thoroughly discussed, but how about your bag? I just bought a new bag for functional reasons, first time I’ve replaced a bag (after only 4 years) that wasn’t simply beyond hope. The one before was about 30 years old, it was falling apart. All of my golf buds have bags that look older than they do, even when they buy new clubs they keep the old bag.

Do you replace your bag whenever just because, or when the old one becomes embarrassing?

The warden asked me if I could trade in my old bag as it’s in decent condition? 😆

8-12 years, I have 1 carry bag and 1 cart bag.

Sorry that your topic got hijacked into a 14-way vs 4-way debate.

I''m not sure, but looking at the Ping site and current offerings online for 2020 and 2021, they look the same.  It does look like 2022 has some new colors: Tan, Cardinal, Navy and Multicam.

Yeah, agree, see no evidence that there is a 'new" 2022 version. Looks like just color changes. Why change something that is just awesome!?

  3. I've played SM4, then SM8 and have clearly seen better performance from the 8's. Will give the 9's a tke 9's a test drive, but also thinking of trying out the Mizuno's. Any other that would be worth comparing?

I was just updating my signature and realize that I'm up to 7 different brands in my bag.

This wasn't intentional and just happened. I don't really have much allegiance and don't fault those of you who do; I *wholeheartedly* believe in the play-your-game-whatever-works-for-you concept.

This is my <current LOL!> breakdown:
    TourEdge (driver)
    Cobra (3W)
    Callaway (SuperHybrid)
    Titleist (hybrid)
    Srixon (irons)
    Cleveland (wedges)
    Bettinardi (putter)

There is no right or wrong answer to this question, but out of curiosity, how many brands have you used or are using at one time?

My brands in my signature. Yikes, quite a few!

So, I run a minimalist setup.  My set is currently driver, 3H, 6i, 8i, pw, sw and putter.  Im thinking about swapping the driver for a 3w.  My thinking is that my driver is kind of a one trick pony in that I can only really hit it off the tee but with a 3w I could hit it off the tee and off the deck and it would probably be more accurate than the driver is.

    Thoughts?

Given your set makeup, seems very sensible to me....3W add's versatility to the bag. I think a lot also depends on the length you need off the tee. Shorter approaches means more GIR's and better changes for lower scores. I see this w my game. Even when I'm offline w driver, if I have a look at the green being closer has given me more GIR's, than laying back in the fairway w a longer approach shot. If 3W gets me inside 100 yards off the tee I'll do it, otherwise I pull the big stick. I think its all about confidence in what your hitting and personal preference on how you want to approach a given hole.

The simple answer is…practice.  We know you wouldn’t do that until April and then you would just play instead.   The only way to get better with any aspect of your game is devoting time to learning the skill.  With your hitting it only a couple of times a round you probably won’t get better.

    Sound advice!

  7. CB-301 would seem more of a direct comparison, assuming you're looking for a cavity with somewhat traditional look/feel. Either brand will be good quality i'm sure. Have fun figuring it out.

  8. Taylor made for me all day long. From burner to sim, just seems launch and shape just seem to always feel the best for me. Completely a personal preference, but would say sound and feel play a big part in it. Everyone should love their fairway clubs and never think twice about pulling them.

  9. I went w the 921’s with the $taper 120’s. Now I have to decide what to do with the shafts in my 54 x100 and 58 s400 sm8’s. Won’t change those until the spring but thinking to go a bit lighter and softer.

  10. 3W is my favorite club to hit! Up until a few years ago I had two 3W's (12 and 15 degree). Now I just have 15 degree to add a wedge. Use it on shorter par 4's, or navigating dog legs/bunkers to avoid trouble. Use it more from the tee, than fairway. To shoot for green on par 5 has to be clear path to the green w limited trouble or I lay up to wedge zone.

    MUST stay in the bag!

  11. I recently tried P7MC and Jpx921 Tour, both with $taper. About 1000 revs less with P7MC resulting in meaningful distance differences from shot to shot. For me, Jpx921 tight on distance w better spin/distance control.

  12. Every chance I get!! Always amazing to me how many able bodied people ride. Frankly, really sad.

On a separate but related note, what's come of the caddie? Even at private clubs, many offering policy to use push carts. Again, really sad.

  13. Anyone switch to the a black finish shaft after playing chrome their whole life. What did you think? Good choice or regret? Why?

I'm looking at KMS and thinking about PVD Black in $taper.

I was going to also mention trying some different golf balls.  Not sure what you're using now though

Thanks Larry...been playing Pro V1 or Pro V1x for years, playing with marginal changes in spin. If I'm playing a match I pull out the Pro V1.

You are pretty optimal in everything. Going to the x100 might bring height down a little but there’s a chance they could mess with your swing. Changing heads probably isn’t going to do much and some of the newer heads may add some spin.

Modus 130x or c taper are possibilities but just not sure you see much improvement in lowering flight.

Is the height just not visually pleasing.

It’s not a visual thing. Introduce a bit of wind and the ball either balloons if into the wind or drifts on the wind if side wind. Just feels like if I could bring the launch and spin down a slight bit I’d have better performance when conditions are not optimal. Not looking for big change here just trying to tweak flight on stock shots. Probably most noticeable with 8-pw. thanks!
